OG, you are letting your distaste for this person colour your better judgement. As I stated previously, there were a number of exemptions listed for excusable travel and dealing with Sick ..as opposed to Dead relatives was one.
No so old chap he went to Durham on the day of a funeral (odd coincidence)of a family member to be with his parents, the son became ill two days later, and he and his family were supposed to be self isolating at the time.

He was worried because he was sure he'd get covid, so to protect his wife and child he decided to spend five hours in a car with them
And this too

He should probably mention that the day of the wholly unjustified trip to Barnard Castle was his wife's birthday.

What a coincidence eh?
All pigs fuelled up and ready to fly.

When you think about it if that is the standard of judgement calls Cummings make, I wouldn't even be happy with him advising tommie never mind Boris!

He said he didn't consult with Johnson. Not entirely surprising.

Doesn't say he did, or did not, consult with Domini Craab the chap in charge. Or anyone else.

If he can disappear to the other end of the country for two weeks, and not be needed, possibly his importance is over-emphasised?

At the end of the day it's a witch hunt as these last three web pages show. He used his judgement, so what?

I've posted on these lines before, we are all individuals with widely differing circumstances, so strict rules to deal with a complex subject are rarely possible or practical.

The sensible thing to do is to endeavour to fit the rules to our individual ever changing circumstances in order to achieve the intended outcome of the rules. I've been doing that throughout, often breaking the strict letter of the rules to achieve more and better than the strict rules would. The fact that the rules have been changed more than once to what I've been doing is justification enough.

Cummings has done no different, making tailored choices that haven't hurt anyone, except the feelings of the self-righteous prats of the media. And they've not been careering around the country looking for muck to rake up? Yeah right.

the point is not he has hurt anyone but he is more than adviser, he runs the No10 machinery and he has shown to make feeble excuses for his decisions. When cornered, his answer is: 'with greatest respect, I disagree'. That's not a convincing answer.
Remove the child: he has no answer. He uses anyone, including his 4 year old son. That's my point.

Only if there is an immediate threat to life you bozo. Why can’t this piece of information penetrate your skull?

Today is a red letter day.. the first since 22 March when we in Ireland have had ZERO CV19 deaths reported!. And yes our processes do identify virtually all cases, ..Acute hospitals, care homes and home deaths ,in a very timely manner. The culture is to have a funeral within 3 to 4 days of a death, so getting the documents together is rapid. Official Registration of a Death is usually within 24 hours.

Why has no one picked up on the fact that Cumming’s wife accompanied their son to the hospital when she was most likely still infectious with the virus. Point of lockdown to prevent spreading it, but they drive 250 miles to take it to the North. Indefensible.

Many have, Johnson. Very many.

UK coronavirus live: PM says 'people should make up own minds' on Dominic Cummings
Time for two referenda: Cummings and Brexit (in light of new evidence)

I can just about believe the trip to Durham to isolate if I’m feeling particularly benevolent.

However, to put his wife and child in the car and to then drive 60 miles to test his theory that he might be unfit to drive is not credible. It’s a lie contrived for the purpose of getting around the fact that he was spotted by the teacher. That then throws all of his story into doubt. Add in the fact that the kid coincidentally wanted a pi$$ just as they were passing access to woodland walks, where he was unfortunately spotted again, and this confirms the BS.

This is of the upmost importance because the rules were devised to keep us alive. The government must reinforce the seriousness and gravity of the situation by making an example of Cummings. He’s a liar, he’s arrogant and he is showing contempt for people who have suffered as a result of his government’s incompetence.

There was so much rule breaking by so many people during lockdown period, it's as if it never really happened.
The local rag here published a picture of a pub in town serving booze to paying customers standing on the pavement outside. Someone grassed them up, the Police were called and did nothing even though the place was supposed to be shutdown and certainly not serving alcohol in the street.

A couple of days ago I took a walk through a local park and I could see just beyond the surrounding fence people sitting in seats outside my own local boozer. Somehow I don't think they were just passing the time of day with the Landlord. I feel a bit sorry for those poor sods that ended up getting fined when others got clean away with it.

Just to finish up .. While this was updated in May, the majority of the provisions are no different than the UKs March and April situation....It is of course Official UK policy.

People may only leave their home in any part of the UK if they have ‘reasonable excuse’ to do so. Legislation passed separately in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland lists the activities that are considered ‘reasonable excuses’, although these lists are non exhaustive.

The rules on leaving the house (as of 13 May) are set out below.

To avoid injury, illness or escape risk of harm
To move house
For a minister of religious leader to go to their place of worship
Parental arrangements
To assess critical services, e.g. social services
To fulfil a legal obligation
To visit a cemetery, burial group or garden of remembrance
To attend a funeral
To travel to work where it is not possible to work from home
To give blood
To provide care or assistance to a vulnerable person
To seek medical assistance
To spend time outdoors for recreation
To exercise
To obtain basic necessities
