I’m reading about gridlocked roads and packed beaches in Devon & Cornwall. I’m a bit mystified as to why so many people are available to travel to these places. It must be furloughed people. People being paid by the state to do a job. That job is to stay local to home and not **** things up for people in the West Country. The police should have the power to take details of these people to pass on for the purpose of stopping their furlough payment. The twats may as well be crammed into an office.

This is the problem when you have a government not giving clear instructions. Johnson said that people should use their common sense. Doesn’t he realise that the British are a nation of people who go out and panic buy lavatory paper and pasta? How is using common sense going to work on people like this?
How could Johnson not see the irony in asking the Voting public to exercise "Common sense" after duping them into voting for Brexit?
It's hard to grasp the sheer enormity of that concept: he actually must have convinced himself it wasn't after all an evil plot, and they weren't in fact as thick as two short planks to fall for it'
What a shame the pillock picked up the wrong sheet of paper up and plumped for leave instead of remain.

It looks like quid pro quo Joe has got himself in a bit of trouble.

There's no way that Joe's going to make it to the vote for the election. His dementia is accelerating rapidly and he can't hold a normal conversation anymore. Here he is trying to say Corona virus, but fails miserably. It's cruel that they keep him going. I think the plan is to swap him for Hillary on medical grounds if he gets elected. Going by his rapid decline, my prediction is that he'll be replaced before the vote, but they're struggling for a viable candidate.

I read a report about this. A French military vessel was observed escorting an inflatable boat, which was taking on water, with 22 people on board, out of French waters. The inflatable boat had set off from a beach in France and rendezvoused with the military vessel about 500 metres from the shore. Once out of the French controlled zone, it was handed over to the UK's Border Force who took all the occupants onto their boat and transported them over to the UK. The crew on the observation boat were threatened that if the film was broadcast, the boat owner would have his craft confiscated!

This is a common practice and is officially known as a handover. The UK and French are actually working with people traffickers to facilitate the channel crossings.

The French have been paid hundreds of millions not to do this. Why don't our government realise that the French are a treacherous & immoral bunch of double crossers. They lack any notion of decency, they are cowardly, lacking personal hygiene and are impossible to trust.

I believe that Churchill ran a network of pipes out into the English Channel for the purpose of forming a vast film of oil which would then be set alight to slow / repel an enemy attack. I think this tactic need revisiting.

Apple have now released IOS 13.5 which means that at least it has become theoretically possible for an app to use the Exposure Notification API, which supports contact tracing apps.

The trouble with illegal immigrant's is this...

Under the 1982 United Nations Convention of the Law of the Sea, ships have a clear duty to assist those in distress. Article 98 (1) states that “ every State shall require the master of a ship flying its flag, in so far as he can do so without serious damage to the ship, the crew, or the passengers… render assistance to any person found at sea in danger of being lost [and] to proceed with all possible speed to the rescue of persons in distress, if informed of the need of assistance, in so far as such action may reasonably be expected of him. ”.

To add to that ...

The 1951 Refugee Convention prohibits refugees and asylum seekers from being expelled or returned in any manner whatsoever “ to the frontiers of territories where [their] life of freedom would be threatened on account of [their] race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group or political opinion ”. Those who do not meet these criteria but who fear torture or other serious human rights abuses, or who are fleeing armed conflict, may also be protected from return to a particular place by other international or regional human rights or refugee law instruments.

Now we the UK are signatories to that convention therefore we follow the rules laid down by it, if we no longer agree to those rules we must therefore remove ourselves from it. No one has ever made any moves to do so resulting in the problem continuing on and on ad infinitum. I don't understand why Farage & cronies keep preaching to the converted on various web sites, blogs tweets etc when the majority of people agree anyway...who is he trying to convince, the immigrant's themselves I wonder ?

The problem we have is that while this has an element of truth in it
"

This is equally true

that the English are a treacherous & immoral bunch of double crossers. They lack any notion of decency, they are cowardly, lacking personal hygiene and are impossible to trust.

And worse England is now no better than any other fascist country has ever been it kills it's own in tens and thousands to apply that sort of right wing agenda.
Compared the that fact a few immigrants are the responsibility of the fascist regime to fix, when they have the power to do so, why don't they?
Because it suits them to divert public attention of course

Did anyone see Newsnight last night? They were talking about the claim BJ made during PM questions. In an answer given to KS, Boris said that ending the charge made to immigrants for access to the NHS even though they worked in it would cost over 900 million pounds a year.

Newsnight said this number was around four times bigger than it actually is, I would provide a link but I have not yet been able to find this story on line, if anyone else can find it can you provide a link.

I saw it. It is available for watching again. Yet seems to not be anywhere else I have looked. Odd...

Johnson's number was for four years. And across all who would be paying it - not just healthcare workers.

He is trying to bring the situation to the attention of the public. The government are trying to bury it and are going to great lengths to keep the practice secret. They have been double crossed and humiliated by placing France on trust to keep to a deal and don’t want the embarrassment.

Within those rules you post is a requirement to settle and register in the first place of safety reached. Again, as to be expected from a nation of guilt ridden inferior cowards, the French are shirking this requirement placed upon them.

So what will the government do?

No-deal Brexit 'would overwhelm local emergency teams'

Leaked report warns local disaster planning already exhausted by coronavirus crisis
Preparing for the impact of a no-deal Brexit later this year would overwhelm local emergency response teams exhausted by the Covid-19 pandemic, a leaked Whitehall report has warned.

A review by a committee set up to review the response to coronavirus said failing to seek an extension to Brexit negotiations threatened to “compound Covid-19 with a second UK societal-wide, economic and social, chronic threat”.

The government made it clear that it will not seek an extension to the Brexit transition period on 31 December – but the leaked report, published by the Municipal Journal, said this threatened to “overwhelm” local disaster planning capacity.

The article below is, obviously, regarding the USA. Just what has the UK government done, and what is it doing, to rebuild PPE stocks, etc.?

Exclusive: US has three months to rebuild medical supplies stockpile, Obama administration scientists warn
A seven-page report from the former president’s science advisers is an implicit criticism of Donald Trump’s handling of the pandemic
Nine top scientists who advised Barack Obama in the White House are warning that the US has just three months to rebuild its national stockpile of emergency medical supplies or risk further drastic shortages of testing kits and protective gear should coronavirus strike again in the fall.

The dramatic warning from Obama’s former science advisers contains an implicit criticism of Donald Trump’s handling of the pandemic. In a seven-page missive, the group says that federal government preparations for a possible resurgence of the disease must be triggered immediately if a repeat of the “extraordinary shortage of supplies” that was seen in March and April is to be avoided.
