(A few of you will really appreciate this - some amazing numbers in this report)

THE BBC’s news coverage of the EU shows overwhelming bias against pro-Brexit opinions, a study has found.

The report, titled ‘Brussels Broadcasting Corporation?’, monitored thousands of hours of radio and TV shows dating back to 1999 including the flagship Radio 4 programme Today.

Rare Brexiteer appearance... just 3.2% of interviewees on Radio 4's flagship new show, Today, were anti-EU, despite consistent public support for EU withdrawal throughout this time
Of 4,275 guests on Today between 2005 and 2015 who talked about the EU, only 132 were Brexiteers.

Put another way, just 3.2% of Today interviewees were anti-EU, despite consistent public support for EU withdrawal throughout this time.

The report, published by think-tank Civitas in conjunction with the group News-watch, also found that Left-wing Brexiteers have been consistently excluded from BBC news programmes.

Using specialist media monitoring techniques, researchers analysed 274 hours of BBC coverage of EU issues broadcast between 2002 and 2017.

Pro-EU Tory politicians, Ken Clarke and Michael Heseltine were regular guests on the BBC's EU coverage
They found just 14 speakers - 0.2% of those interviewed - were Left-wing advocates of leaving the EU despite an estimated four million Labour voters being Eurosceptic.

Between them, these 14 contributors spoke for just 12 minutes.

By comparison, two pro-EU Tory politicians, Ken Clarke and Michael Heseltine, clocked up 28 appearances during the same period. Clarke and Heseltine were given nine times as much airtime as the 14 Left-wing Eurosceptics put together.

One of the report’s backers, Lord Pearson of Rannoch, said:“The BBC is the Guardian newspaper of the airwaves.

It is determined to present its EU coverage in terms of Tory ‘splits’ and conveniently ignores the fact that vast swathes of Labour supporters voted for Brexit as well.”

It’s also come to light via the report that BBC chief Lord Hall and BBC chairman Sir David Clementi have “repeatedly” refused to meet a cross-party group of MPs including Labour’s Kate Hoey and Graham Stringer, and Tories Philip Davies and Philip Hollobone, to discuss the latest research.

Lord Pearson added: “Under the terms of the BBC Charter and the BBC’s guidelines, the BBC has to be impartial and must reflect significant strands of public opinion in all of its news programmes. This report shows it has breached that agreement spectacularly.”

Now they wouldn't have an agenda would they?

No. Of course not. I apologise for any inference that this may not be a completely honest and fair report.

So Sun is saying beeb should give chaps like this more airtime...

BBC - Anna Soubry protester: 'It just kicked off'

Tourists delighted by ‘quaint’ British tradition of Police protecting female MPs from gammon-faced Brexiter f*ckwits

Looks like beeb covered its back just in time by having proBrexit John Rhys-Davies lose the plot on QT as posted a few posts back. ;-)

the EU is much less capitalist than UK's conservative party and Trump's USA.
That's why we have brexit in the first place.

Your not only ones... Said similar months ago. The EU experiment is failing, mainstream havent woken up to fact yet. If it undergoes radical change and starts to accomodate all its failings it might succeed, as it is, no chance.

In principal and theory, trouble is like so many things EU talks a good image. Reality is far far removed.
I dont think there is a scale of capitalism. It revolves around the centralisation of assets, the EU has Capitalism to its core, each and every successful composite part has only achieved anything through exploitation of capitalist policies. Germany, France, Luxembourg, etc etc are no less capitalist than USA.

No surprise to me. The Beeb is firmly a part of the establishment, the establishment is pro EU membership, so the Beeb projects that view.

But that report was based on radio and TV shows so very biased. The BBC coverage in their news bulletins has been very fair to the anti-EU side, indeed I'd say more than fair. Brexiters like Rees Mogg, Gove, Davis, Johnson and co. have dominated the bulletins, while pro EU names have had little bulletin time.

Capitalism is unavoidable for the current stage of our civilisation, however, we need legislation to bring up standard in the workplace, treatment of employees, organising the way capital is brought in, moderating the reward for shareholders and management etc.

the EU sets much higher standard for capitalism compared to what existed before it and since.
look at the progress since after WW2. Without the EU, many countries will drag their feet.

I'm not disputing that. That wasn't what I was saying. I am fully aware you can be arrested for d and d on separate occasions. Who isn't?

If the judge keeps said jounalist in court for contempt and brings them back he can of course hold him/her in jail but once he has sentenced him/her thats it.

The guy just likes to type waffle. I daresay he is like it in real life and just loves the sound of his own voice.

He added nothing no one didn't know and in fact spouted nonsense when he said journalists were somehow exempt from the law.

Just blarney.
Er, and what are you doing right now?

I totally agree their stated aim is to achive these things but their results and even, more importantly, their own application of stated aims and polucies are rarely achieved. Mentioned it all before but EU has numerous work place targets but doesnt even attempt to achieve them in its own organisation. Its a front of respectability and social care. Compare any aspect within EU to own Authorities/government and EU are streets behind,ie not meeting the very standards they advise others to.

BJ in the news again..

He made a speech for the India Today conference and he got paid £122,990.

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/apr/25/boris-johnson-paid-more-than-160k-for-giving-two-speeches

BJ made £51,250 from the Irish firm Pendulum Events for a speech in Dublin in February.
Previously, he gave a speech to Citigroup in Canary Wharf: £38,250.

what do you think?
He wasn’t paid for the speeches, his words don’t have that amount of value. These were down-payments on the purchase of his service and influence, should he become PM. The “speech” is generic BS to make the sale to these organisations appear legitimate.

We saw the same thing earlier this month when it came to light that Tory MP John Mercer is being paid £85,000.00 by Surge Financial Ltd for 4 hours work per week. This company is now under investigation by The Serious Fraud Office for selling “toxic bonds” and other irregularities. Be in no doubt that the £85K is not a payment for this ex Pongo’s financial nouse, it’s to purchase his influence and cover to allow their corrupt activities to continue.

Anyway, the finals of Britain’s got Talent start soon, so this boring corruption stuff will soon be overtaken by more important matters.
