"Dear Pig, are you willing to sell for one shilling

Your ring?" Said the Piggy, "I will." [1]

So they took it away, and were married next day [*]

By the Turkey who lives on the hill. [2]

They dined on mince, and slices of quince, [3]

Which they ate with a runcible spoon; [4]

And hand in hand, on the edge of the sand,

They danced by the light of the moon,

The moon,

The moon,

They danced by the light of the moon. [5]

[1] Ring being an obvious reference to the EU flag with the ring of gold stars.

[*] Probably some obscure reference.

[2] Coming up to Christmas, anything a turkey does is suspect.

[3] OK – so we have the Quince, who will be the mince?

[4] Clearly a reference to the HoC mace, and possibly Heseltine?

[5] Prediction of the state at least in NI when electricity become unavailable and they (we?) have to make do with moonlight.
My bet is [3] is an obvious reference to Davis

Just checked brexit in that home of warm and cuddly words, Urban Dictionary. One definition:

Brexit
A specific type of fart; the kind emitted in the naïve belief it's "better out than in", but which has disastrous, unforeseen repercussions.

Be warned of the extreme language widely used on that site.
Actually the reference has been amended to include the following suffix
Brexit
A specific type of fart; the kind emitted in the naïve belief it's "better out than in", but which has disastrous, unforeseen repercussions.
Beware in particular of Lumpy ones

As we have diverted somewhat off-topic, may I just take a moment to acknowledge that Noam Chomsky, one of my favourite rebellious intellectuals, has turned 90 years of age.

Here is a brief pen-picture of the man from John Nichols, a left-of-centre blogger and journalist:

https://www.thenation.com/article/noam-chomsky-90th-birthday/

However, just to show that I'm still interested in (and concerned about) 'Brexit', there are still amusing, black humour infographics appearing on social media such as this copy of the Attorney General's written advice to the government:

Also, the paparazzi have snapped Nigel Farage, outside his local, in discussion with his election agent about the possibility of finding him a safe tory seat anywhere in the UK:

Are the BBC news staff all having the weekend off? - They seem to have gone unusually quiet about 'Brexit' matters suddenly.

Just a thought: As British politicians try to tie us back into Brussels, armoured vehicles speed through Paris, displaying the EU flag.

The world is getting better:

In East Asia, 80.6 percent of people lived in extreme poverty in 1981. Today, 4.1 percent do—a 95 percent reduction.

Rock on global capitalism.

if TM's deal goes through, there won't be much change in our economy.
If we leave on WTO, trade will continue like before, there will be contraction due to the predicted lower value of the Pound. Over time, some large manufacturers will move out, some new specialist manufacturers will invest here (avionics, airframes, airplane wings, renewable energy, electric cars, bio medical, robotics, software development etc)
the whole world is moving away from high carbon economy, the UK is no exception.
Right. What's all the fuss about (pause for incoming): ‘No deal’ merely means trading on WTO terms. Trade on WTO terms is the norm. 90 per cent of world trade is done on WTO terms. 60 per cent and rising of our trade with other countries is done on WTO terms. Our exports to the countries we trade with on WTO terms have grown three times as fast as our exports to the EU’s Single Market. Our businesses trading with the USA trade on WTO terms and we run a trade surplus with the USA. Our businesses trading with the EU trade on its Single Market terms and we run a trade deficit with the EU. WTO rules give us full access to the EU’s Single Market. Access does not require membership. It would be illegal for the EU to restrict our access to the Single Market.

Our dependence on the EU for food compared with the rest of the World
'Dependence'? Huh? Just because we currently get 29% from there does not mean we are 'dependent'! Doh. It's that sort of blinkered thinking that got us here in the first place. Just because I get 100% of my food from the local shop does not mean I will die of hunger if it closes down - I WILL SHOP SOMEWHERE ELSE!!

Whatever.

Never mind.

That woman was far from right as the photo I posted of Croydon from the 2011 riots showed. Far worse than Paris currently, whole swathes of shopping areas burnt out throughout the centre. And we were only one part of London affected the same way, as were many other parts of the country.

Nor was 2011 unique, decades before there were the St Pauls, Bristol and Brixton, London riots.

There'll be more if Brexit goes badly wrong.

And not many look disappointed, even the 17.5 million who were mugged into voting for something they are not going to get and briefly saw themselves as "winners"
It ain't over till the ft lady sings and I don't see no fat lady singing yet. The next few weeks should be some of the most interesting ever (in my lifetime) in British politics. Nobody knows how this is going to turn out. Right now everybody is guessing. Oh sure - we all have our hunches - but what makes it actually so interesting is that we DO NOT KNOW.

Stay tuned.

Have you seen the millions of vehicles in the UK displaying the EU flag?

[ Added ... ]
Why we even have police cars with EU flags on them! (And what might pass as the regional flag of Bayern on the bonnet.)

We have been from Day one, and still haven't heard of a single reason to expect Brexit will be beneficial, unless you can propose something?
