Brexit, for once some facts.

The tabloid press has taken exception to JC's choice of coat today. Indeed, there is a note of outrage about the matter, which is rather strange……..

Perhaps Corbyn prefers not to spend the thick end of a grand on a coat that he would only wear on a handful of occasions each year. I like the fact he chooses not to wear the same uniform as the rest of the political class.

Do you remember how Michael Foot was pilloried about his donkey jacket in his time? It's an old Tory theme being repeated:

I do indeed 'flecc'! It hasn't escaped my notice that both the tory attendees today, along with the pink tories and that man for all seasons, Vince Cable, (he might still be a laughable demorat but one can never be certain as he changes his politics so often.)

The Crombie overcoat of course; an essential part of any gentleman's wardrobe in town, as worn by shady politicians, Arfur Daley, several well-heeled gangsters and a host of Nigel Farage lookalikes in the City and at Canary Wharf, frequently replete with velvet collar……but not, it seems, by honest brokers of a socialist and humanitarian bent.

Start the day with a smile from the Guardian
"
Trump ditched cemetery visit to avoid causing Paris traffic jams, says Sanders
When rain grounded Marine One, the president didn’t hit the road because it would have disrupted traffic, says White House

How considerate of him!
This additional detail is interesting
"In France, on Veteran’s Day weekend, it came across as a snub to America’s war dead by a president who had avoided military service in Vietnam, claiming to suffer from “bone spurs”
I suppose it makes a change from "A lack of intestinal fortitude" :(

But Putin, aahh!! Putin, he would have made it to the Russian cemetery even if he had to ride bareback - himself and the horse - and he'd have ensured there were photographers every clip and clop of the way to show it.

He may look like an idiot
And sound like an idiot
In fact he is even worse than that, he is in fact
Prof Patrick Minford.
Skip over the intro and watch him make a real case for remaining in the EU!

Having enthralled his fans with his vision of No Deal being the best deal for the UK, Minford next persuades them that the EU will not only pay the tariffs imposed on their imports from the UK but they'll also be paying the tariffs on all their exports to the UK
So the new plan is to leave the EU and trade on WTO rules granted by the EU to trade with the EU.?

This guy and Trump belong in the same care home for the terminally stupid.
Does this group really believe itself to be a "Think Tank"?

I really don't pay any attention to polls as the only real test of public opinion is delivered when a national referendum or election is conducted. That said, this less than scientific poll conducted from a Facebook site has produced an incredible result; so incredible that I think the site owners probably made it up!

Of course, if it is indeed a true reflection of the opinion of a sizeable number of people, then the whole 'Brexit' nonsense may be drawing to a conclusion:

BrexitExposed created a poll.

9 November at 17:23 ·

POLL | As the Johnson brothers have resigned over Theresa May’s Brexit - one a hardline Leaver, one a Remainer - with both slating the deal on offer as ‘colony’ status, ‘suicide vest’, ‘a travesty’ and being ‘Out but ruled by [the EU], we ask:

What do you want?

Being ‘Out, but ruled by the EU’ or remaining ‘In, and rule with the EU’ as a rule-maker as we are now.

DISCLAIMER: This poll is not scientific and conducted in accordance with recognised polling standards.

1%

Out, but ruled by EU

99%

In, and rule with EU

This poll has ended.

I think it is probably a falsification - more fake news.

The European Union
The 'Guardian' sees the current position in the tory ranks like this as we enter another week with the clock running down:

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2018/nov/11/hard-brexit-tories-and-dup-told-to-think-twice-before-rejecting-deal?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other&fbclid=IwAR28yc3938ZpYU7YMieztWjHw-IG2t5BBmuqrHRgjE7n2MICiO_829yVAgg

The interesting part is at the bottom of the page where the 10 most viewed topics are listed.

Tom
Gen Sir Nick Carter, chief of the defence staff, told the BBC the military “stands ready to help in any way we can” in the event of no deal.

As in a coup and a military dictatorship? With the Queen as head of state of course... :p

probably fake. However, it's not important because until the tories lose their grip on power, there won't be another referendum.
Justin Greening sums up pretty well the view of a sizeable chunk of backbenchers this morning on BBC1. If there is a new referendum, there should be three choices: WTO, TM's deal or remain.
I reckon WTO will poll the most popular choice because whoever negotiates a future FTA or a customs union with the EU, they (the EU) will want to decide how and when the UK can get out, WTO is the only choice that does not commit to EU rules.
What the UK should have explored is EFTA membership. It's much easier to leave EFTA than the EU.

Nothing wrong with Corbyn’s coat. Very practical. May on other hand never misses an opportunity for a new outfit from that shop which specialises in clothing for women of a peculiar shape. Chuck in a new pair of leopard prints for the jaunt to the cenotaph & the job’s a good-un.

I’m getting increasingly alarmed by these Emma Thompson / Lilly Allen esq, glitzy showbiz poppies. The ones encrusted with cut glass to make them look ornamental. What sort of person mutates a symbol of huge suffering and loss into a trinket? What is wrong with these people? Why isn’t paper good enough for them? Are they trying to promote themselves as the most “grieviest” person on Facebook or something?

Then there is the new “Autumn Collection” of different coloured poppies for the discerning celeb about town. Just stick with red paper to remember men, women, animals and all who lost their lives fighting other people’s battles for them, and making a few people fabulously wealthy in the process.

And what have we learned from all the sorrow, pain, horror and anguish?
That a small number of the rich and well placed can bring the world to ruinous war through their greed and jealousy, and the public are too stupid to stop them, even to the present day.
And why? Because they never bother to think for themselves, all you have to do is demonize a chosen enemy, play on their fears, and they will follow like lambs to the slaughter

We don't need to look back too far to see exactly how such a situation manifests itself, firstly against the people of a country but ultimately, the whole world.

As for the UK's tory politicians and quite a few in other parties, Joseph Goebells identified a common trait thus:

'The essential English leadership secret does not depend on particular intelligence. Rather, it depends on a remarkably stupid thick-headedness. The English follow the principle that when one lies, one should lie big, and stick to it. They keep up their lies, even at the risk of looking ridiculous.'

Goebells also made this very clear:

images.jpeg

Goebells' colleague, one Hermann Göring, explained how easy it is to get the people onside……

Hermann_Goering_-_Nuremberg2.jpg

'The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.'

Sadly, mankind generally fails to pay heed to history and as a consequence, learns nothing.
