Celtic rainforest in Wales to be restored with help from EU
Almost £9m to be spent to protect wet and temperate forests from invasive species

A project to restore an endangered section of the British countryside – the Celtic rainforest in rural Wales – has been launched with funding from the Welsh government and the EU.

Almost £9m is to be spent trying to protect and improve the wet and temperate forests typically dominated by sessile oak, downy birch, ash and hazel, in an area criss-crossed by tumbling streams and waterfalls.

Does that mean, in tommie's words, that Wales is milking the UK?

Delighted to learn this Oyster, they are the nearest we have to a rainforest and have invaluable genetic diversity.

Another example of how it's not all about the economy.

But you know as well as I do that as soon as the EU funding is gone the UK govt will not honour it's promise on projects like this, the money will be needed elsewhere "for more important things".

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2018/aug/27/air-pollution-causes-huge-reduction-in-intelligence-study-reveals

The UK is illegally polluted, a short extract:

Aarash Saleh, a registrar in respiratory medicine in the UK and part of the Doctors Against Diesel campaign, said: “This study adds to the concerning bank of evidence showing that exposure to air pollution can worsen our cognitive function. Road traffic is the biggest contributor to air pollution in residential areas and the government needs to act urgently to remove heavily-polluting vehicles from our roads.”

Daniels said: “The UK’s air is illegally polluted and is harming people’s health every day. Current policies are not up to the scale of the challenge: government must commit to bringing air pollution below legal limits as soon as possible.”

We know how high fighting air pollution will be on the list of priorities after brexit...

Errr...NO!

It means Wales along with the rest of the UK is getting shafted by the EU Mafia cartel.

a measly £9 million!!, what an insult, after the UK taxpayer contributes £13.0 BILLION year on year

In 2017 the UK made an estimated gross contribution (after the rebate) of £13.0 billion.

TM secured first trade deal with SA:

"The prime minister confirmed that Britain would replicate a deal the EU currently has with six southern African nations"
actually with SACU, Southern African customs union, replicating the current deal that SACU has with the EU. So we'll copy and paste, search and replace, no shame in that. And the price? £4 billions extra 'investment'.

One has to ask why is there no "Red Line" about joining this "Customs Union"? and paying for it?

Shouldn't we be encouraging the constituent countries to do the same as us and leave the SACU? SEXIT?

Then again, what would happen to any agreement we end up with should SACU disintegrate? (No need for any answers. :) )

I wonder if this is the Bluprint for all our atempts at future "Trade deals"?

Simply copy and paste all the EUTrade agreements, and how long the practice lasts before it gets "blown out of the water" by the EU demanding exclusivity on it's trade term agreements with it's partners in trade?

And that is assuming (and it's a big assumption) the other nations we want to deal with will extend equal terms agreed with the EU to us?
It doesn't seem likely to me!

the deal TM made is not an important trade deal, but it brings home a sense of realty. She has to sweeten it, made them an offer so good that they couldn't refuse. It's still illegal under the current treaties.

Maybe not important as a trade deal. Surely its perceived importance is that a deal which can be headlined like this has been agreed (in outline, "planned", or whatever its status) and will be used for PR?

Mind, if SACU can get four billion, how much will others stick out to receive?

Ah! And it must be matched by private investors!

it's only important as far as PR goes.
The TPA between the EU and SACU countries is an asymmetric one, essentially designed to alleviate poverty. The EU allows those countries to export food, oil, aluminium at zero tariff to the EU (subject to quotas) but goods like cars, machinery still pay import duty.
TM agrees to roll over those quotas should brexit goes WTO. She basically comes to Cape Town bearing gifts.

The Express is still trying to play the Galileo card
"
EU WILL LOSE: Theresa May unveils Galileo alternative in HUGE blow to Brussels
BRITAIN is serious about its threat to withdraw support for Europe's new satellite navigation system, Theresa May insisted yesterday, as she warned the EU not to try to shut the UK out of key discussions."

Where does the "Huge blow" come in?

This is simply sheer propaganda and it is high time that privately-owned public information services were made subject to the same demands made of witnesses in Crown courts - '......to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth.'

Sadly, the British media for as long as I can remember has interpreted the last part of that message as 'nothing like the truth', thereby treating the British public with utter contempt for political ends.

Yet another use for the brexit billions:

No-deal Brexit: Plan to maintain medicine supplies 'could cost £2bn'
Campaign group Best for Britain warns of cost to health secretary’s stockpiling strategy

You can be pretty sure that this is just what has been calculated for the initial part of the issue...

In case everyone has forgotten about the major collapse of the giant, private-sector, Carillion conglomerate, so favoured and advocated by the tory government, I came across the attached elsewhere in social media.

It's straight out of the business model so successfully operated, (perhaps that should be perpetrated?), by the likes of Robert Maxwell, Asil Nadir and Sir....yes, SIR Philip Green (among others) upon British consumers but more importantly and hurtfully, on the workforces of those corporations through the embezzlement of their pension schemes.

I shall watch the takeover/rescue of House of Fraser with interest!

'The pension regulator did nothing to save Carillions pensions. It says it was pressured by the government to be friendlier to business. So basically the government pressured it into letting Carillion rob workers pension funds. I hope they are suing.

So the tories have stolen our state pension and they've stolen our private pensions too by cutting the balls off the pension regulator.

Carillion got away with robbing the state and various people of 7 billion pounds, without consequences. This country is completely corrupt now.'

Dispatches... "How to Lose 7 Billion Pounds."
