if we crash out then we have left so no more EU tariffs will apply.
In that event I can see some big arguments with UK customs officers,!!!

The biggest problem may be in persuading the Chinese that we are no longer in the EU.

It was Japan's insistence that we were subject to EU pedelec law that led to them sending us 250 watt bikes from 1999 on when our law was a 200 watt limit. That's what started the 13 year legal uncertainty and illegality of nearly all pedelecs here.

thats great.... Brexit in only 7 months, so nothing to fear then,

the country has given it a vote of confidence
Tommie....a lot of that employment includes zero hours contracts such as Uber,Amazon, Deliveroo.....would you work for the likes of Amazon?
The reason why Hammonds tax take is looking good is that we are all paying corporation tax on last years earnings, mine is higher than ever.....but companies immediately after the brexit vote destocked ,that builds cash hence high taxes.....wait until 2019 and you will see a completely different corporate tax situation,Hammond realises that.
Most revenue is coming from exports because of the weak £ v Euro, the home market is pretty soft, but any disruption UK to EU would not be good at this critical time.

Britons in EU could lose access to UK bank accounts under no-deal Brexit
Warning comes in government ‘technical notices’ telling businesses and public how to prepare in event of no-deal Brexit

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2018/aug/23/britons-in-eu-could-lose-access-to-uk-bank-accounts-under-no-deal-brexit
Correct me if I'm wrong here, but this Paragraph

"Businesses should “if necessary, put steps in place to renegotiate commercial terms to reflect any changes in customs and excise procedures, and any tariffs that may apply to UK-EU trade”, the notice on “trading” says."

This sounds like
"This is the Captain speaking
We are abandoning ship, every man for himself!"
(or whatever gender applies)

What sort of technical advice is that?

Here is the wisdom we have waited for
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/trading-with-the-eu-if-theres-no-brexit-deal/trading-with-the-eu-if-theres-no-brexit-deal

And the resulting reaction?

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/blog/live/2018/aug/23/brexit-no-deal-papers-dominic-raab-prepares-to-publish-no-deal-planning-papers-politics-live

And a comment from

Wading through No Deal technical notices, struck by how often gov suggests worried businesses might want to engage a "customs broker, freight forwarder or logistics provider". Have we finally found the Brexit boom?

It looks more like
BRINO or NOGO ;)

If we fall out of the EU with no deal, does that mean that the EU anti dumping tariffs will all be scrapped on April 1 ?
I realise that part of May's Chequers deal is to sign up to the common rule book which would undoubtedly include EU tariffs but if we crash out then we have left so no more EU tariffs will apply.
In that event I can see some big arguments with UK customs officers,!!!

Dominic Raab at the foreign office, reassuring us all about the risks of no deal. “You will still be able to enjoy a BLT after Brexit, and there are no plans to deploy the army to ensure food supplies”. That’s OK then.

We can rest secure in the knowledge that there aren't any plans to deploy the army, even if it is essential to feed us. Phew!

Sure, they might not intend to deploy the army, but it is gross negligence not to make any plans so that they could be deployed were it to be necessary. Don't think the catering corps will be needed to make our sandwiches, but might be to deliver the tomatoes and lettuces from Spain.

It's clear from the documents that although officials think a no deal would be difficult for the British mainland, it might be impossible for Northern Ireland. Each section ends with the same set of paragraphs essentially saying that it isn't clear how these new regimes could operate in Northern Ireland successfully - and that the best we can do is continue to talk to the Irish government and the EU Commission.

It was the Brexiteers who most wanted the government to prepare for no deal. If their aim was to convince the public that a no deal was desirable scenario, then they might wish, after today, that they hadn't been quite so eager.

All the way through these directives are 'businesses should consider using shipping agents' to overcome the complexity of no deal....I thought they said problems were over exaggerated...the government doesnt seem to realise that additional costs make us less competitive in Europe,I thought Liam Fox wants us to go on an export drive.
What concerns me is that our customers in Europe will not accept all the additional costs and red tape and find it easier to buy locally.
Still we can have May,Boris,Fox and JRM directing traffic at Dover....on second thoughts whats the betting they will all be on urgent ministerial business in Afghanistan on March 29 !!!

Surely we want the traffic to flow as freely as possible. Can’t see that mob even managing to find where they have to be.

Labour is nudging closer to second referendum.
Keir Starmer is on the remain side of the Labour party, he suggested that if Parliament votes down the deal (negotiated by TM or no deal), then Parliament must take the next step and all options must be on the table, including a second referendum.
Meanwhile, JC struggles to answer this question: is the UK better out of the EU?
He should really bring himself to do what the Party and the country need from the opposition.

I have often wondered what Edvard Munch's inspiration was for his work, 'The Scream' in the latter part of the 19th century. Someone else found some connection and I get it now; it was his way of expressing his thoughts about the tory party and this pic fits rather well with Munch's work - it's a whole bunch of horrible nutters together.

And on the other side of the Atlantic:

Donald Trump has suggested that cooperating with the government in a criminal case in exchange for a reduced sentence “almost ought to be illegal” while warning that impeaching him would cause an economic crash.

That doesn't half come across as being intended as a threat.

And a rare bit of good news about Boris and Hunt. Looks like they have done little enough on this case for some positive news

Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe freed temporarily from Iran jail

British-Iranian reunited with four-year-old daughter after being released on furlough

Let's hope they both continue to do nothing and eventual release might follow.

Q: How do you cause a panic in which people stockpile medicines before brexit?

A: You make an announcement rather like this:

Don't hoard medicines for Brexit, health secretary says
Matt Hancock writes to doctors and pharmacies amid fears patients might stock up in panic

Here's the joke of the day in the Independent
"
Leading Brexiteer Liam Fox complains British people are too obsessed with Brexit
The cabinet minister said opportunities in China, the US and other growing markets are being overlooked
Of course, each and every one of us is in the position of exploiting opportunities round the world, every day. It is our fault for overlooking these other growing markets.

The only way it is OUR fault is that we, almost unbelievably, voted both for brexit (within the flawed basis of the referendum) and the current mob in the HoC - or on holiday wherever that might be.

Now this is stirring stuff and will frighten the Russians
"The UK hopes to deter further Russian aggression and activity in eastern Europe by developing new defence plans with Romania, Gavin Williamson, the defence secretary
If you can't plan the army to help with the mess of brexit, just how can these plans help Romania?

The real reason is likely so that any supply difficulties can be blamed on patients, clinicians and pretty much anyone else for their part in hoarding.

HS2, a vanity project that will only serve the friends and backers of the tory party, has been in trouble since it was first announced. This report gives a clue to why there are problems:

https://www.newcivilengineer.com/quarter-of-hs2-staff-paid-over-100k/10034084.article

Tom
Used to be in the general area that HS2 is going through in the Chilterns.

It always seemed spectacularly bad PR that everyone in the area was going to have to travel many miles to get onto an HS2 train. Either into London or up to Birmingham. They would probably have worse services northwards than they already have.

In the UK, very high speed trains seem the wrong approach to me. Universal fairly fast trains might have done far more for us. Something like 125 to 150 mph. All electric (including Swansea). Improved track.
