They seem to be getting excited in the Express
"
BREXIT BOILING POINT: EU talks on verge of COLLAPSE as ‘CATASTROPHIC’ no-deal exit looms
A NO-DEAL Brexit would be “catastrophic” Sir Keir Starmer has warned as Brexit Secretary Dominic Raab outlines Government plans in the event of EU talks collapsing, in the clearest signal yet that Theresa May is braced for negotiations with Brussels to break down."

Making a headline using the opposition?

When is no news News?
This morning the Daily Mail had no Brexit headlines on the front page.

What a relief......All must be well!

I have just looked through the offerings on Brexit on the gov.uk website, they apparently don't get up very early as there are no advice notices supposedly available today as yet on a "no deal "for Businesses yet.
Hopefully the information will appear here
https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/department-for-exiting-the-european-union

What is on there so far like this on financial services
https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/734939/2018-08-17_Financial_Services_Slide_FINAL.pdf

Makes it pretty clear a "No Deal" would be catastrophic!

I reckon the 'technical papers' are a bit more difficult for JRM and the ERG to attack. After all, TM's government is talking up their (the ERG's plan) chance of success. The ERG attacking the papers is the same as remainers attacking the £350 million a week. The effect is like a boomerang.

And if they are as vaguely written as the rest of the advice given on the subjects already covered, they will be as clear as mud!
That's a bit unfair, their advice is usually excellent. Don't you remember the Home Office cold war advice to have a stout brown paper bag handy in case of nuclear war?

That was to be placed over the head to protect against being blinded by the flash of a nearby hydrogen bomb explosion.

Matthew Elliott of Vote Leave created that battle bus, he knew very well that the claim of £350 million for the NHS was inaccurate but effective, even now. Lots of people still believe that charity begins at home.
Remainers in the government hope that their technical papers will have the same effect, inaccurate but effective. I don't think they will succeed. When it comes to choosing between exaggerated bad news and exaggerated promises, people prefer promises.

If true an own goal.

Sadly, though Remain have the best case in my view, it's impossible to put for existing politics, so is automatically not good enough in the electorate's eyes.

The grass in the next field will always be seen as greener.

it's a case of remainers getting punished for not being romantic.
People like stories with good ending, even if it turns out to be just fiction.

It wouldn't have worked though. Many of the electorate have been so poisoned by anti-EU fake news from such as the Mail that they couldn't accept it could ever lead to a good outcome,

That bigotry has been very evident in here, an unwillingness to ever give the EU the slightest chance by accepting the truth of the considerable good the EU and its courts have done and continue to do.

it's a self defense reaction.
You know that your next door neighbours can be a big help in time of crisis and yet, if you get fed up with their noisy, boisterous kids kicking balls into your garden, you won't see any good in that family.

All our troubles are over folks!
https://twitter.com/DExEUgov
A video from Fox explains all!

Just a point of interest everything on this Twitter page is straight propaganda, and not a single critcal post any where!
What a contrast with Trump's twitter page where he gets a good old roasting.

The obvious conclusion is either they protect the page from critical comments, or even more likely few people bother to read it??
The obvious flaw in the argument that 400,000 more small companies that don't export could, is that unless times are favourable, they are more likely to go under than hazard their already fragile future to get into the minefield of exporting!

And reading the information on this site
http://www.greatbusiness.gov.uk/ would require someone with considerable time, patience and education to wade through this mire to the "golden nuggets of vital information" they will need.
Small businesses don't have the time, will, or energy for this sort of thing, they struggle to survive.

If this is the sort of information on a no deal Brexit about to be released, they are going to need a lawyer to interpret for them.

But the EU's "noisy kids" are all in the mind. Those in here posting against the EU post imaginary harm resulting from membership, yet none of them have been personally affected adversely.

Some might quote the ban on throttles, without realising that they were never legally approved here either. But in return for losing throttles, the EU gave us 250 watt rating instead of 200 watt and 15.5 mph assist speed instead of 12 mph, so hardly a bad swap.

And that is without mentioning all the EU court rulings against very oppressive UK laws.

Europe to ban halogen lightbulbs

After nearly 60 years of lighting homes halogens will be replaced with more energy efficient LEDs

Arthur Neslen

After nearly 60 years of brightening our homes and streets, halogen lightbulbs will finally be banned across Europe on 1 September.

The EU does it again. Removes my right to spend "up to £112" a year more on lighting.

See how much UKIP cares for the poor:
Jonathan Bullock, Ukip’s energy spokesman in the European parliament told the Guardian: "The EU's attempt to ban halogen bulbs is wrong because consumers will suffer financially and it’s always the poorest who suffer most from these kinds of policies.”

They really want those who have little to retain the freedom and right of every Englishman (or should that be everyone of any gender who happens to live in the UK?) to be even poorer by paying excess for their lighting. And making sure they increase pollution from electricity as well.

(I wouldn't have been at all surprised to find that in a fairly short time, quality halogen replacements had largely disappeared. Leaving uncertain quality products on ebay, etc. In effect meaning that regardless the EU, this would have come to pass.)

Financial reality has already seen the use of LED lamps in almost every place I have recently been with large numbers of small lamps which would once have been halogen. In kitchens, shops, galleries with 10 and more GU10 luminaires, it is rare to see more than the odd halogen these days. (Sometimes that is to make the transformer work properly!)

We only have two filament bulbs in the house, one in the Microwave, the other in the oven.

And aren't they expensive? Well, the one on our microwave went. Initially thought we'd just use it without but that was very unsatisfactory. So searched to get a suitable replacement and the price was far more than I expected - and I could easily have paid twice that.

We have four - as you plus the two in the cooker hood. Which is disappointing but hardly end-of-world stuff. I think an LED could be used in place.

(Even before LEDs were available, let alone reasonably priced, we had a range of CFLs and similar which represented a considerable electricity usage reduction. Have been delighted that LEDs have seemed consistently better than expected whereas all too many CFLs were horrible.)

If we fall out of the EU with no deal, does that mean that the EU anti dumping tariffs will all be scrapped on April 1 ?
I realise that part of May's Chequers deal is to sign up to the common rule book which would undoubtedly include EU tariffs but if we crash out then we have left so no more EU tariffs will apply.
In that event I can see some big arguments with UK customs officers,!!!
KudosDave
