Brexit, for once some facts.

The European Union
Intersport manage to have French workers fit a Chinese kit to a French made frame and sell it for that price or near (the pound isn't what it was...). Decathlon has their Chinese kits (Bafang) mounted in Hungary or Bulgaria or wherever. Lots of European workers getting paid for mounting Chinese bits and bobs...

that's a workable proposition if you have a suitable distribution.

I don't know if they fully understood what brexit means for their future, I don't quite see the ramifications myself, but at least I understand their reasons.
People don't need complex reasoning. Anyone can see that their tax money goes where they don't see any return.
I already pointed out what their reasons are, and I Sympathise, but it doesn't change the fact they were mislead, and for sinister reasons too.
They don't give a damn where their tax is going, until they were deliberately wound up about the cost of the EU it meant nothing to them.

I wish somebody comes up with a convincing argument why we have to pay so much more to the EU than we get back in order to trade.
I can't.

I can't.
It's about equalisation. Richer countries pay in more than the poorer countries with the eventual aim of fiscal and eventually full union and a common living standard.

My old Oppo worked in RDF (yes he was much more ancient that even I am)
And he didn't care for Transistors
His name for them?
"Three legged Fuses" and the OC70 range were barely even that!
.. ah the venerable germanium glass bottled mullard ones. Did you know they could also be used as photo detectors by scrapping off the black paint. ??

Only on the ones with the clear not translucent paste inside! (the others were too insensitive to light)
As you'll gather I used them as Photo diodes. they were good for applications were there wasn't enough room for a CDS cell, and of course they were cheap as chips, great for home made Burglar alarms, and home made exposure meters.

Silicon if I recall much higher gain and frequency BC108 can, NPN
And very much more rugged!
And the diodes were too when to Germanium Glass ones gave gave way to the at the time incredible IN4000 series, my favourite was the 1N4007, 1000v 1A

I can't.
Because trade is only one aspect of belonging to the EU. But for the English money and trade are the only things that you think about.

I'm sure we did, but remember our remit was "The Home of the Future" which is limited in scope, as were the attending companies.
I'm sure there were other Think Tanks more inclined in the direction you mentioned operating elsewhere, needless to say in other countries too at the same time.
It's a fair bet that this is still going on right now.
You're right I had missed the consumer bit (Home) and in many ways that does get missed far too often. That is where the real money is of course so it does seem a little naive but the Universities as well as business have long realised this - the problem is putting the sign-posters in place and getting them listened to. At least the Services put people like me in there as the 'user' so at least we got something that eventually worked.

From that comes a realisation that we waste too much money developing things that only serve a few of society rather than opening such development out to benefit the majority - one for Tom there I'm sure?

Now that may well be the role of Think Tanks - perhaps we have far too many?

There again everything we did was 'Top Secret' - end of discussion.

Once again, it's all about the money with you. The EU is more than just a trading bloc and if you object to the costs contained therein for our membership, then you might equally ask a similar question about the disbursement of the UK's foreign aid budget.......and who decides on the apportionment!

Golf clubs are full of members who pay huge subs in some cases yet don't get their money's worth for a variety of reasons. They could go elsewhere and play as much golf as they like for less money but they choose not to so do and there are reasons for that, just as there are reasons to stick with the EU. Life is about knowing which side your bread's buttered on.....and that may not necessarily be connected to money!

I have a little theory, if you don't fill your own self assessment form, you are likely to vote for brexit, because you either feel/are very rich or very poor.
Are you suggesting that some people with such control over their tax matters do not tell the truth? Certainly, those poorer people comprising the main body of taxpayers locked into the PAYE system cannot cheat on their taxes and the same applies to those in receipt of benefits.

True, though in many cases it's little more than selfish.

If we want to make a success of Brexit surely we need not just Think tanks, but a network of them working together and pooling brainpower for the benefit of industry and commerce as a whole, ie as a national resource for all to benefit from.

back in those days, the ones I used the most were the BC108 and BC109.
Ah you are only a newbe, the oc72 was in operation from about 1956\7 and powered mw radios and other kit. The silicon transistor didn't come until 1960 and the bc108 family dates from about 1965.. a decade later. ...

absolutely! We of course, have a record of missing the goal with hover-craft and even the Harrier Jump-Jet being examples.
