Maybe we'll go back to the "good old days" when instead of VAT at 20%, we had purchase tax at 33.3%, or 66.6% on "luxury" goods, luxury being dictatorially defined by the Chancellor of the Exchequer of the day..

Shemozzle999....When we leave the single market,shipping goods from the EU will be zero rated but customs should collect the vat at point of entry plus any import tariffs that our government impose to 'punish' the EU for not giving us a good deal after Brexit.
Those who say that tariifs on German imports will increase the price of German Cars must realise we have a love affair with buying Audi,BMW,Merc and VW,10% rise in cost wont stop us buying them and maybe they can come tariff free from China!!!!
We'll probably invent our own version of anti-dumping duty to protect Marmite made in Buxton,hehe!!!

I honestly can't see how brexit can be anything but leaving the Single Market. Sure, we'll get a new trade agreement but will Scotland accept the deal?

Not a single positive idea has come out in its favour, none of the so called reasons for doing it are either practical or affordable and now Davis wants us to become part of communist China's empire.

Yes, the zero rate will be possible, but we'll have to see whether the politicians apply it. It was easy for them to say we can't due to EU rules, now they may just duck and dive.
Two definite worthy candidates are womens sanitary products and fuel bills.

Its already been done and its made a lady in China a very wealthy lady.
She buys up all the packaging that we have to dispose of when removing chinese goods,sends it back in virtually empty ships(clue there) to China,hence almost zero ship costs,then pulps it,makes more cardboard boxes to pack goods into, to ship back to us.
Actually history teaches us that the dilemma is an old problem....
The East India Company used to buy the finest porcelain,tea,silks from China via Canton (now Guangzhou),we didnt have much to sell the chinese so we made them into opium addicts,the drugs collected from what is now Afghanistan on the way.
It was a great trade made lots of Brits very wealthy until the mayor of Canton rebelled against it,sent locals out to the ships and tipped the opium into the harbour,fed up that we made his population into opium addicts.
We responded with our usual gunboat diplomacy,sent in the navy,shot up the dignatories,sacked and starved the city....now there's an idea perhaps we could send our navy into Europe with Boris at the helm and force them to give us a good deal,do we still have a navy????

We we do have six frigates, we just need enough tugs to drag them about as the engines don't work in warm water, but they might just about make it across the channel on a cool day.
