Agreed but you haven't answered the question, as labour can only be viewed as a long term prospect and a lot of damage will be done before then by the Tory's

They will get rid of themselves eventually. All political parties do, Labour, Cons, Lib Dems.

They will become complacent and even more contemptuous of the voting public until anger builds to the extent that Labour win. Then the process starts again.

So what you are saying is that it is worth suffering the Tory's in power long term to control immigration?
Not much of a bargain is it?

A bit more good news today.

UK car production hits 14-year high for August
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-37427031
I see
"Of these cars that rolled out of British factories last month, 27,804 were for sale in the UK, while the remaining 81,200 were manufactured for export purposes. While the domestic demand showed a 6.2% increase from August 2015, the export figures reflected an increase of 10.2%. SMMT further said that for the year to August 2016, car production had increased 11.1% to a total of 1.7 million vehicles. "

So in fact not much change from the rest of what was a good year hmm?
No doubt the reduced value of the pound, which will hit the pockets of the public have helped with exports, but cost us on imports in due course.
And of course how many were exported to the EU than won't be going there with a cost advantage in the future.

OK on the face of it it looks like good news, till you look a little closer.
The Public have lost interest in Brexit and still buy that new car while they still can.
The falling pound helps export at the expense of the Public
Still no sign of Brexit and we are still in the EU.
I can redefine that from "Good news" to "No cause for alarm, yet"

One of the least attractive Tory traits is their amazing lack of loyalty
"
Minister says boss Boris Johnson never wanted Brexit and only backed Leave to become ‘heir apparent’ to Tory throne
In a BBC documentary to be broadcast this week, the Foreign Office Minister claims the now boss Foreign Secretary wanted Brexit to lose
In comments recorded the day before the referendum took place, Mr Duncan predicted Remain would win by 52 to 48 per cent and said: “By championing leave, Boris can be the great heir apparent of the future, darling of the activists, but actually it would be quite good if he didn’t actually win the referendum because there would be total chaos.”

Such paragons of virtue, and suckers fell for it all!

It has always rankled with me that Londoners actually voted for this buffoon to be Mayor.

There have been many great, dedicated men and women who were better choices to represent and advertise our capital city but not all wanted such a job, indeed it is a questionable office anyway and I think I preferred the previous 'Leader of the GLC' term instead of the pseudo-royal celebrity status provided by the title of Mayor.

One of my favourite politicians, Tony Banks, would have been terrific for that job as would this man, one of my heroes:

He may have been Suffolk-born but this man was a Londoner through and through and he could never be accused of being any kind of mainstream politician. Sadly missed by many film lovers and disgracefully ignored by the film industry's 'luvvies club' of thespian grandees after his death.

I posted this right at the outset when he first chose to fight the Brexit campaign, his purpose only to do the opposite to Cameron.

He came unstuck though, since he was banking on Remain winning so he could position himself for the next general election after the Cameron/Osbourne austerity program forced them out. Winning the Brexit campaign left him stumped at what to do next, which is why he disappeared for nearly two days while he figured out what to do.

He's got his punishment, Foreign Secretary, a job he hates.

They didn't Tom, the result came about because of Tory gerrymandering. Fed up with London alway being Labour, long ago they changed London's boundaries to included swathes of the Tory home counties into what they called "Greater London". It didn't work though, since those Tory fringes resented being called part of London instead of theri usual county so didn't bother to vote in London elections.

Until they made Boris Johnson a candidate for mayor and conducted a lying hate campaign against Ken Livingstone to persuade those outer areas to turn out to vote. It was those Tory areas doing just that which swung things to Johnson, London proper still voted Labour.

I agree on Tony Banks, he would have made a great London mayor and his early death was a sad loss.

the curse of brexit:
when the negociations are completed, whoever leads the negociations is going to be heavily criticized by both sides no matter how much the government at the time is going to spin the result.

In all this, the role of economists are very much downplayed.
Their role in transforming our economy into what it is, widening the gap between the poor and the rich, fostering discontent, is not much publicized. Look up how they contributed in the 'financialization' of our economy.
And yet, we give them Nobel prizes for their efforts.

I can't believe what you are all saying about Boris. Surely he's not capable of such cold & calculated political manouvering? He's such a happy go lucky chap and his hap-hazard buffoonery gives him an endearing touch of vulnerability.

I'm buying into the Boris thing 100%, so no more slanderous comments please.

Not hap-hazard, clever and calculating buffoonery that he's used to good effect ever since his youth,

Even members of his own family say as much!

UK universities discuss plans to open new EU campuses ahead of Brexit
'There is a very real chance that Britain will come into the grips of extreme Brexiteers who are euro-phobic and could do irrevocable damage, not only to the country but to our universities'
From the Independent this morning.
Well, why not?
And also
"
Brexit: UK must leave EU by early 2019, says European Parliament president Martin Schulz
He has warned that it would not be good for the British to vote in Brussels elections while Brexit talks are on-going"
Quite right too!

From the Daily Mirror Some very Bad News
"
British icon MG moves car making out of UK - ending nearly 100 years of history
Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation confirmed it was stopping the assembly of cars at Birmingham’s famous Longbridge plant
Yet it came as the day MG announced a 130% surge UK sales.
Matthew Cheyne, head of sales and marketing at MG Motor UK, said: “With efficiency and flexibility both key to long-term market success, off-shoring vehicle production is a necessary business decision.

“Relocating to state-of-the-art overseas production facilities will allow faster access to product and help to meet ever-increasing customer demand, all while maintaining the highest levels of production quality.”
In other words we have been judged and found wanting, and unlike the Japanese, the Chinese didn't even give us a warning first.

This is the sort of news we dreaded hearing, no words like "I told you so" to the Brexit Voters are likely to be heard or understood, it is far too late.

Is there now a "Bad news Blackout on Brexit?"
Not a single paper carried the news about MG this morning
,
Not even the Mirror that ran the original story.
I was begining to wonder if it was all a mistake till I spotted this BBC story
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-birmingham-37449289

Looks like someone is wanting "Britain is Booming" to be the only "Truth" around.
