Threats of violence and extreme abuse have all been on this thread in the last 48h.
While it's causing no damage, let I carry on, its in the off topic section after all.
When it starts to cause trouble then the pedelec community doesn't need it anymore.

for a more neutral response: Europe and many Europeans who reside in the land of garlic care a great deal about brexit. many care because they care about living in a shared world we all take care of each other in. they do not consider a Europe governed by those with sentiments like farage's or le pen's caring. so they care, greatly, about what this means.

No, I wasn't saying get lost I said that I thought you now lived in France, not go to France or anything like that. Again, here is my reason for thinking you lived in France:

When you said "why do you care, you live in France" it suggested to me that you felt I should not involve myself in this debate on the basis of not living in the UK. That to me suggested that you feel those who don't live in the uk shouldn't care about brexit. many of us do, a great deal. I really do hope this makes sense to you, because it is emphatically the last time I try to make myself clear.

I never took you for a racist and FWIW, I did not think you told derf to get lost. I have friends who immigrated from SA and became British citizens. They have an equal stake regarding brexit. Derf may carry a British passport.

As a little diversion I offer my experience yesterday in Whitby, I had gone down the main street past the harbour wheeling my Brompton because it was too crowded to ride, and stopped near the bandstand , folding the back wheel under the frame as is usual in the parking position.
Immediately I had several people ask " is that a Brompton?, they were on the tele on BBC2 ."
Yes is it, though this is an old one that I bought in 2004.
The person making the enquiry pointed to the hub motor and asked is that a Dynamo?
No, that's a hub motor, I replied.
Are there batteries in it?
No the batteries are in a pack in the bag, which I showed them.
The usual questions followed, then the next person asked aren't they the Biggest cycle maker in the UK?
My answer was, apart from a few specialist firms probably the only biggish one.
But they are British made asserted one to the other.
My response was well, the rear wheel on this bike has a Dutch Rim and a German hub gear, the chainwheel and chain are Japanese, the from wheel has an American rim and Chinese Motor, the battery is Chinese and so are the electronics, and the seat was made in Taiwan, but the frame was made here and the parts assembled too, the tyres are German.
Apparently from the program the Steel now is now from Spain, the paintwork is done by a separate company.
The New Brompton factory is one I would recognise, and so would Henry Ford with it's old fashioned push along production assembly line and portable hand tools.
Now I am quite a fan of Bromptons for all their faults, but if we want to be competitive in this modern world we are going to have to move on from Henry Ford era production lines and hand tools, putting out parts of the production process to local jobbers, and do a lot of catching up with other more advanced nations.
We need investment and letting Engineers instead of Accountants enjoy more influence.
Frankly I fear that isn't likely to happen

My wish is that in Britain, as in some other countries, we used the title 'Engineer' instead of Mr.

That brings back a smile as I remember on one occasion being introduced to a new Company Exec, by the Human Resources Director, and this new worthy asked me my Function in the Corporation.
After a moment of reflection I replied
"Fan Cleaner"
My MD was standing close by and bless him he did smile, but the HR Director was quite indignant and said words to the effect, "Ignore him Engineers are a bit you know, odd" while dragging him away.
Apparently according to the Md's Secretary the HR director had complained to the MD, and much to his chagrin had got the reply
"Well what did you expect him to say? you know what he's like!"
Once the HR Director had left his office he could be heard chuckling to himself.
