But that's not how the market works, there's huge exaggeration about housing costs.

Average wage now in 2016 is more like £27,000 and first time buyers often start with a flat. Even in my London borough a one bedroom flat could still crop up at circa £150,000 before all the stocks ran out and they all went to buy-to-rent.

So that was about 5.6 times salary, so what? I bought for the first time in 1961 at 5.3 times my salary, very little different, and that's why I challenge many of the assertions about today's unaffordability. I did it by living in poverty to start with and being patient enough to suffer in silence until inflation over time and working hard for more money got me on top of the situation.

What is wrong now is that today's young people are not prepared to do that. They still insist on running a car, having and using hugely expensive smartphones, going on holidays abroad, having extravagant multi thousand pound weddings and the like. That is why I have absolutely no sympathy with them.

And I've based the above on a London price! There are far cheaper properties elsewhere, this 2016 link details a flat at £15,000, one tenth of my local quote above.

The fact is that if someone really wants a property, it's still as possible as it was for me back in 1961 and again in 1967 when I bought again.
.
Yes, when I bought my first house in 1986, it cost 5.1 times my salary and interest rates were about 10%, I think.

I know it took all of my wages to pay the mortgage and we lived of my wife's merger income. As the years ticked on, inflation made life more comfortable.

I think you are right, young people won't put up with it and make the effort in terms of struggling for cash.

Perhaps if Mrs May or indeed any of her multi-millionaire friends in the tory party are really concerned about British ex-pats, they could re-appraise the situation of our own people, retired in Australia, NZ, S.Africa and other places around the world where they receive no state pension increases whereas those who settle in the EU do.

That is very discriminatory but more than that, it is shameful!
Tom
Wasn't that the situation when Labour were in power for 13 years. Maybe I am wrong was it the coalition who did it??

Ah Tony Blair who won three elections with landslide victories. Obviously all the people who voted for him must have been deluded. Wonder why they didn't vote for Michael Foot???

Indeed, I had one 1960s mortgage with the Property Owners Building Society at 9%. Today's mortgagees at 4.5% and often less don't realise how lucky they are.
.
When I moved into my current property in 1981 I was paying an eye watering 15%

Ouch, that's terrible. I was fortunate enough to have cleared my mortgages early, accrue cash and invest heavily in the crazy 15% government bonds of that Thatcher era, profitting hugely through to their expiries between 1998 and 2001.

Yes they were deluded weren't they? what other conclusion is possible? otherwise they are as criminal as he was, and before you ask, no i did not vote for him.
Re Michael Foot? because he didn't look like a double glazing salesman and because they had other ideas, and where did they get them?
The usual campaign of lies in the media of course.
Answer this one, why did the voters give power to Cameron, when he lied publicly during the election?
Same goes for Osborne, people are influenced by the propaganda in the press, as I and others have been telling you all along.
And if you imagine May is any better, no, you can't possibly believe that, surely
And Boris and Gove lied too as did Farage, and still after all that you have faith in any of them?
REALLY?
Tell me what benefits are you expecting to get personally out of leaving the EU?
Are there any of the things you were promised or even hinted at still likely to come true?
I expect that the economy will be just fine, but a lesson from History for you.
When the United Kingdom economy was most successful the lower classes were treated like dirt, lived in poverty and died young in squalor and disease.
And you have given power to the same squalid bunch who will put the clock back to those times, even though the signs are there for all to see they have been doing that for years.
Time to invoke article 50 and the reality lesson begin.

Ford has said it will consider closing its two remaining UK factories, both of which are in towns where the majority of people voted to leave the EU, to cover costs of $1 billion over the next two years.

Ford stopped making passenger cars in the UK in 2002. But it still makes engines at plants in Dagenham and Bridgend that are exported to the EU where the cars are assembled.

Many cars are then shipped back to the UK to be sold
The two UK plants employ around 3,800 people in towns where the majority of people voted to Leave the EU.

In Dagenham, 65 per cent of people voted to leave while in Bridgend 54 per cent said they wanted out.

Ford has already slashed some 5,700 jobs EU jobs in the last five years after closing all of its UK plants and one in Belgium.

The price of Ford cars in the UK will also rise, according to Bob Shanks, chief financial officer, who blamed the changes on the tanking value of the pound against the dollar since the referendum. That has made Ford, a US brand, more expensive in the UK."
More good news?

Something funny for a change
http://indy100.independent.co.uk/article/the-map-that-shows-where-british-people-really-come-from--ZkgrwLoLOLb
The most Anglo Saxon part of the country is Yorkshire and the Humber, according to a study of the UK's ethnic history.

Ee lad always said then Southerners were furrin tha nose!

Joking aside I am a little surprised as this part of the country was known as the "Danegeld" and locally we assumed that would mean Danish Roots.
Just goes to show that local history can be wrong!
Mind you it is still only 41.2%

True, but equally more police, defiantly doesn't make us safer from terrorist attack
The factor that is keeping us, "safe" is Britain's ability to spy on and infiltrate potential threats. We gained a great deal of experience during the troubles associated with Northern Ireland and there aren't many, if any, countries that are as good at it as we are.

Apart from addressing the cause, this is really the only weapon we have to keep us as safe as possible.

Such is the power of the establishment propaganda machine that the masses were in fact deluded. When information is controlled by a cabal, comprising a right-wing political party, the media, business moguls and the banks, the general population has no chance of ever hearing or reading anything other than that which those with control allow.

Blair is just a soundbite, career politician further to the right than some of the tory backbenchers but was feted by the cabal for exactly that reason. It is wrong to imagine that New Labour is a socialist group upholding the kind of socialist aims and principles which brought great benefits to this country post WW2.

Thankfully, the current Labour leader is a socialist.

Just had notification from our currency broker... things are set to get worse...

"Action required – 100% certainty of rate cut?

Data compiled by Bloomberg suggests a 100% probability that the Bank of England (BoE) will cut its key interest rate next Thursday, 4th August.

If the BoE does cut rates, this is likely to cause sterling to weaken against currencies including the euro and US dollar."
I thought that my cooker had started whispering advice about the FTSE 100 index. When I looked more closely, it wasn't the cooker, it was a stock pot.

Ford cars are rubbish.

Doesn't a weak pound make Ford's wage bill less? Isn't that good or aren't we mentioning good today?

I see Channel 4 News have employed "jailbird" Andy Coulson as a roving reporter. How and why do these people keep on re-surfacing.
