the reason we need so many immigrants is because our economy grows too quickly.
Are you saying that if the economy slows right down, we won't need all the foreign doctors and nurses staffing the NHS?

And we won't need our crops picked?

The reality is that much if not most of the immigration isn't linked to the economy, it's linked to our continuing needs for food, health care and community care.

Less growth, we'll need fewer immigrants.
I am not at all against freedom of movement, which I consider one of the fundamental human rights.
I am against the distortion of the labour market by allowing workers paid and taxed in one country while working and living 'temporarily' in another. Example: lorry drivers.

Fact check time again kiddies - Brexit was all about xenophobia not about racism.

It is true that many voting for brexit are both racist and xenophobic. There may well even be a sub-group of brexit voters who don't know what the last word means because it has too many syllables so they just use the first one... These people need to learn that there is just one European race and until quite recently people from the UK were part of it. Brexit seems to be all about creating a new race. The Germans tried that a short while ago, didn't end nicely...

racism
ˈreɪsɪz(ə)m/
noun
  1. prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against someone of a different race based on the belief that one's own race is superior.
xenophobia
zɛnəˈfəʊbɪə/
noun
  1. dislike of or prejudice against people from other countries.
I think Brexit was also about giving the Tories a bloody nose, I know many voted to leave just to do this and get rid of Cameron.

Everyone is against that but the problem is greedy corporations using a loophole in EU regulations, not the EU itself. The problem has been noticed and I believe is being worked on. Those are the same greedy multinational corporations with whole accounting departments dedicating to finding loopholes to avoid paying taxes.

Actually my feeling is that this was a very significant factor, the fact that the Government wanted to stay incited an "anti" reaction.

the boot is now on the other foot,

Pay rises hit 2 year high.

'Employers struggle to recruit staff as as applications drop due to Brexit'

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/news/employers-recruit-staff-brexit-job-applications-permanent-temporary-pay-income-rise-a7881986.html

That's socialism to me.
It's a funny kind of socialism when none of our home grown applicants have received the necessary education and training by the state to qualify them as applicants for many of these jobs.
Sorry but the notion that that is Socialism is a non starter, it is simple capitalism in one of it's more sinister guises.

the problem with the EU is that it is based on the paradigm that capitalism is good and it favours the big guys.

then more of a reason to change the status quo.
Employers are only too happy not paying for training until now.

Good grief! you don't understand socialism at all do you? it's ultimate aim is a World Government.
Capitalism doomed Ancient Rome by creating deserts, and it's doing the same to us.

Of course the easy way to square that circle is a common economy and currency with unified governance.

That means being full members of the EU and co-operatively working towards a country called Europe.

The only other way to completely solve the problem you highlight is to shut all the doors, and tunnel, and live in total isolation.

you should really take a more critical look at the way the EU creates the SM framework. It is based on capitalism, pure and simple. Sure, it will tax and fine the multinationals but the latter prosper while the small shops shut.
The old France was full of life, even in small villages, because people shopped locally. Ever since the EC, small shops close because they can't afford to comply and compete. Everyone now shops at centres commerciaux.

Therein lies the Paradox, just WHO is going to do such a thing?
we train world class scientists and engineers by the tens of thousands every year. It's a piece of cake to train plumbers and caterers. If employers have to pay, they'll know what skills they want to fund.

Since that has always been the case, why didn't they before, and since the immigrants will still keep coming despite promises, why should they now?

How odd then that they hit such as Microsoft and Volkswagen with huge and mutiplying fines, while not bothering with the similarly offending activities of smaller companies.

I remember the original EC marking. We were supposed to apply for certification on anything we produced. It's affordable for big companies, how can you pay for certifications if you only make and sell your cheeses at your village market?
