That's what Corbyn seems to want
Perhaps you should actually take notice of what he proposes instead of reading the Tory propaganda.
He wants a defence that will actually achieve something more than give us a little "Willy Waving" macho feeling, and be of use.
Explain to me the logic of investing Billions in a weapon that if used will guarantee making us extinct?
Only a complete fool sees that as a bargain.
Cheaper to say we will blow ourselves up and guarantee the island is no use to an enemy, the same logic applies, but this option doesn't make us a target in the same way, as a bonus it would save a lot of money.
And it scores highly on two important points

  1. "Taking back Sovereignty!"
  2. We could probably blow ourselves up without Nuking anyone else by mistake as we wouldn't be launching anything into the air (apart from ourselves)

You appear confused, who is the capitalist, and what is negative about telling the truth?
What you don't realise is that we had weapons of Mass destruction every bit as lethal as Nuclear Weapons before the second World War, probably the worst of which was Anthrax, which was so terrible we would not use it even to prevent us being invaded.
We needed the Air Force, Navy and Army to do that.

Weapons of mass Destruction are far from being of any use in a conflict, especially ones that poison territory for hundreds of years like Anthrax can.

We need conventional defences, which we simply haven't got because we rely on these nonsense weapons like Trident that can never be used.

All Trident does is make us a target, have you thought about that?
And to put such power into the hands of one Tory Politician is like having a Kamikaze pilot in charge of the airliner you are flying on.

I,m back...just holed up in St Cyprien, blowing 40 mph..anyhow..
OG
Much as I understand and actually agree with some of your last posts sentiments you still mix up your opinions with accepted truths.
Its an accepted truth the world is not flat. Its an opinion Trident/ Nuclear deterrent has not kept world ( well our world) free from invasion or catastrophic war.
Yes , obviously if Trident were ever used we have all lost. The truth is in the fact it is designed from.offset to never have to be used, but I do see sense in your alternative "opinion".
I have read Corbyn,s defence policy, its a shambles. In reality it should make him unelectable..in our current state it probably makes him favourite.( When asked about Trident Corbyn answered..."well I wouldn't scrap it but I,d never ever give command to use it" .Well actually Jeremy, you just scrapped it..totally and utterly fecked it. Its now totally and utterly useless. Scrap. Junk. He simply can not become PM being so naive. Never , ever..ever.

Having said all that I would like to know the general public's view on nuclear deterrent. Does it lean towards your views (OG's)or mine. ( I think MAD has stopped a nuclear war happening, there are noises now being made that many countries think they could stop missiles at source..That view throws MAD into madness...a preemptive strike to destroy 90% of opponents arms and hit remaining 10% after launch..heard that theory put forward..worrying times)
Ps.
Tom. Totally agreed with your views on BBC..It has become appalling. We pay BBC a license fee to indoctrinate us..Crazy.
But as a proviso...how much time do folk actually spend being conned by BBC, Daily Mail, AAV, or whatever as opposed to sitting at PC/ phone reading/ posting such rubbish as this lot..OG hasn't got time to read Daily Mail, he,s either pedalling up towards Fyling Dales or posting on here.

And don't tell us you never read Daily Mail, your an expert on it,must read it at top of Sutton Bank..

Pray tell me some left whinger how on earth could we ever vote into power a party with Diane Abbott in it..let alone Corbyn. If or when World and mankind ever actually grows up and becomes civilised in its entirety, well yes I,d vote for Corbyn. Reckon he,s about 300 years before his time. In mean time leaders need to be a little more pragmatic and decisive.
BTW..I haven't decided how I,m voting yet. Nobody has actually impressed as yet.

We don't need Trident.
WW3 will be known as the war of the drones.
Trident is a bloody great big drone..as is cruise missile...just faster..and bigger..but get your point.
You,ll all be glad to know wind forecast to drop and change back to NW tomorrow..I,ll be back on my way..leaving OG to his Daily Mail and his Toniness.

Enlighten me, do the Tory party actually have a defence policy?
Just curious considering the cuts the forces have been hit with.
So what are they offering in that field that attracts?
Pretend because we have Trident we can forget about conventional forces?
Which is after all their current Policy

This is the so called shape of the Army by 2020
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Future_of_the_British_Army_(Army_2020_Refine)

They remind me of the poor old Marine Detachment at Government House in the Falklands when the Argentinians invaded.
Brave, but too few, and poorly equipped.
Never mind hiding behind Trident, we would be better off keeping out of any future conflicts.

Nice one..

OG
Think you are right. I believe we need both, along with more teachers, scrapping league tables, ditching OFSTED, hanging a few bankers, decentralising power and finances away from London and more towards such as Hull. Paying fire service better wages, scrapping higher retirement age for them ( which EU supported). Paying nurses better. etc etc etc. Stop raising retirement age.( which EU allowed to happen)
Introduce an upper limit of 20 on class sizes. Leave education alone to get on with it. My list is endless..
Nobody will listen tho..

Blaming the EU for Not preventing this Government raising the retirement age?
Wouldn't that mean we had lost sovereignty to them?

Sorry but there is no such word as "capitulis" perhaps you could explain this new "thing"?
Perhaps you should try reading and understanding my posts, there are NO positive things that can be said for this Government, remember this?

"Tory Economic Progress= Workers wages down more than anywhere except crisis stricken Greece, UK Productivity crisis, Massive Trade Deficits, soaring child poverty, more new debt than every Labour Government in History combined, 2015 deficit elimination target missed by mile, pathetic 0.3% growth rate, £ tanking in value, waning customer confidence, and the election has been called because May can't control her own party, twenty of whom are in danger of possibly being prosecuted for not declaring their full election expenses re campaign bus use for free"

Point out which bits are positive for me will you?

and I have been quite positive about the future , but you chose not to notice.
I wrote, once the lesson of Brexit has been learned, we will once again rejoin the EU where we belong and join in the inevitable United States of Europe.

This Brexit foolishness is just the Future refusing to be born, but that will soon pass.
You are the one being negative, if you imagine surrendering and pulling our horns in to sulk on this little island while it goes downhill due to the dire mis management of the Tory party is progress.

We have sidelined ourselves from the centre of the action like a bunch of weaklings, because we couldn't compete with the other Europeans.

We might as well go the whole hog and split the country back into the old Saxon Kingdoms if that is your notion of progress.
