Yes, Truss has finally bowed to the inevitable.

But that solves nothing.

With the prospect now of three Prime Ministers in rapid succession from this party since the country voted Tory, we need a new General Election this time.

I can’t see that happening. If the next deadbeat is selected during October, that will be 3 PMs since August!

in 10 years time, Liz Truss’s legacy will be a piece of trivia. She’ll be the one you miss when the pub quiz question asks how many PMs has the U.K. had since ….

The problem we face is that almost all of the candidates put self gratification, self importance and their own pomposity ahead of absolute everything else. That’s all they have entered politics to achieve. The country, the cost of living crisis and the energy misery faced by millions is of absolutely no concern.

Morally, there should be a GE.

Makes one wonder why they dislike Vladimir Putin.

They seem to be largely kindred spirits.

The disease of politics that also produces Silvio Berlusconi, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Jair Bolsonaro.

This would have been wonderful news to return to, after my two mile ver ver slow jog... but two years is ample time for this total Trusterfuck to be reframed and diminished/disappeared by the Tory media machine's reality-distortion field.

Rumours are circulating that Boris Johnson may be a possible successor to Truss.

Isn't he still under investigation for lying to Parliament on those occasions when he lied to Parliament? Having said that, it's now a relatively minor transgression of the gutter standards and morals this current crop of imbeciles has introduced.

He's their best chance of winning the next GE

I can't see how. From North to South, people feel let down by his government, this one and very likely the next one. England may often vote conservatives but will punish any party that loses their money.

Simple solution to stop the Tories getting away with three Prime Ministers in one parliament.

When their choice presents themselves to the Palace for acceptance, King Charles refuses to accept them on constitutional grounds**, thus forcing a General Election as the only way out of the impasse.

For Charles, who has never been a popular figure, it would be a wise move, hugely boosting his subsequent popularity in the country at large through standing up for the common people.

** There is no precedent in our constitutional past for three Prime Ministers in a single elected parliament, two of them unelected as PM.

Within a few minutes of my posting this the BBC were discussing the same on the News.

Shows once again what I've always maintained, that the authorities do closely follow the Brexit Thread. :)

I'm grateful to Truss for explicitly linking her economic policy to brexit in her resignation speech. Her policies were the ultimate expression of it ("taking g advantage of new freedoms" - sic). This mess doesn't have much to do with Truss or boris (in any population there's a normal distribution of twats, much more so in a conservative population). It's the logical conclusion of brexit and its lies.

I would see that as logical.. as would the obvious one of having a potential candidate being voted for by a majority in Parliament. So Charles could Very reasonably require that this candidate, the first of his reign DEMONSTRATEs that they have majority support. The mechanism by which Truss was elected, and indeed Johnson was exceedingly undemocratic. Even had the vote been restricted to Tory MPs it would have had a level of accountability , since each of them is the representative of choice by a voting constituency
