Trump makes a good mate out of Putin:

Trump: US should put Chinese flags on F-22 jets and ‘bomb **** out of’ Russia
Trump tells Republican donors Putin would not have invaded Ukraine had he been president and calls Nato a ‘paper tiger’

What fun thins to do were in East Berlin in thsoe days? What was the atmosphere like in East Berlin while the wall was being brought down? Are images of materiel giving you unpleasant flashbacks?
I visited East Berlin from West Berlin before the Wall came down. The year escapes me now but probably about 1972. You had to buy a visa and convert a specific number of west German Marks into East German Marks ... The official rate of exchange was I think 1:1 , but the real rate of exchange was I think 1:4 .. and East German marks were worthless in the West. Anyway I wandered around, up and down "Unter der Linden " ,all the time with my hand on my passport ,in my pocket. Eventually I went to the Pergamon Museum to view fragments of the original walls of Babylon.. Basically spoke to no-one, walked up and down streets , probably didn't have a coffee and eventually went back through the checkpoint. My sister was and is married to a German Pole or Polish German.. never really figured out the difference , and they lived in West Berlin. Their daughter danced on the Wall on the day it was coming down..

He's getting worse, but trouble is he still has a huge following.

F-22 only has a 910 kg bomb capacity. A fleabite compared to the 32,000 kg of a B52.
Of the 186 F-22 Raptors delivered to the Air Force, only about 130 were ever operational. As a result, today, the Raptor is a bird facing extinction.

I lived near here:

Not absolutely certain whether or not that house was ours.
If there were no landmines or military exercises, Forst Grunewald looks like a nice place for a long stroll to walk off overindulgence of black forest gateau

Yes - it was nice for a walk. Also the Tiergarten. And the former Olympic swimming pool complex. And Charlottenburg. And KaDeWe.

For a young Irish lad in 1972, walking in the Grunewald, which was relatively close to my Sisters flat, was a revelation. My Brother in law worked as an art historian in the Charlottenburg Palace .. Especially an odd place on the Lakeshore called Nacktbadenplatz!.

And now Georgia wants in:

In a surprise U-turn, the government of Georgia has applied for EU membership just days after declaring it would not accelerate its application, as fears grow among the Georgian public that the Russian invasion might not stop with Ukraine.

A day after Ukraine made its formal application for EU membership on Wednesday, Georgia responded to the pressure of overwhelming public protests and made its own request, along with Moldova.
It's the perfect time for them to do that, with Russia too bogged down to oppose them. They could even apply for NATO membership now by the same token.

The danger though is that if they don't achieve those before the Ukraine war is settled, they could face a repeat of what they suffered the last time they made such overtures to the West.

Overall though, the best hope is that Russia itself gets rid of Putin.

it may be easier to apply for NATO membership than EU membership.

Chris Bryant is growing on me:

Chris Bryant (Lab) asks Truss if she is ashamed that only 50 extra visas have been issued to Ukrainians.

Truss says the Home Office is working quickly to hand out visas.

Bryant says, if the government was prepared for this (as Truss has been claiming in her evidence), it should have been ready for visa applications.

Truss says the Home Office runs the scheme.

Bryant tells Truss that she should not be “passsing the buck” in response to questions about immigration policy.

Passing the buck really doesn’t work as a government minister. You are all part of the same government.

The UK is not a key player? Is that what you just said Liz Truss?

Stewart Malcolm McDonald (SNP) asks what No 10 means by the sixth point in the PM’s six-point plan for Ukraine (“a rapid campaign to strengthen security and resilience across the Euro-Atlantic area”). Does that mean reviewing the integrated security review?

Truss says Nato needs to move its response up a gear.

McDonald asks if the government would back a comprehensive defence and security agreement with the EU.

Truss does not back that idea, but she says Nato and the EU are the key players.

I think definitely rather than may be. I can't envisage Georgia, Ukraine or Moldova meeting the strict EU fiscal requirements to become a member for a very long time.

And I can't see the EU relaxing those on emotional grounds.

Visas: Russian trojans need to be filtered out somehow, or their numbers could pose a significant threat; even a small proportion of hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians is a large number

I could imagine some sort of associate membership being invented. Whatever they call it.
