Older readers will remember, as will others who have knowledge of modern history, that, just as a tory PM has visited the fascist, American president on his home soil and came away, optimistically braying about our special relationship and the promise of trade deals, a tory PM did a very similar thing back in 1938.
Prior to 1939, the British, tory government was very supportive of the German Nazi party, ignoring the warnings of one, Winston Churchill.
Today, the tory government is ignoring the same kind of warnings from one, Dennis Skinner.
Fascism doesn't change and there is no soft fascism or hard fascism but you can speak out against it or you can be an appeaser and apologist for it, much like Chamberlain and his parliamentary party of the late 1930s.
If history should repeat itself, you may find that there comes a time when it's too late and life-threatening to speak out. Remember the words of Martin Niemöller, which I won't repeat again.
