Brexit, for once some facts.

EMA says AZ vaccine's benefits outweigh risks, so that's for each country to decide for itself. 12 EU countries suspend the use of AZ vaccine.

They have their own worries. I don't think it has anything to do with GB.
BJ on the other hand does not want to lose this vaccine trump card before the May election.
AZ should pull all supplies from the EU and get it sent to where it will be used. There is no safety issue, the clotting story is garbage. There is no higher incidence.

This is doing no one any good. Its going from bad to worse.
It‘s a total shambles. The unnecessary dithering and the systematic undermining of confidence in the Oxford vaccine has been present since day one. It has been a premeditated & calculated strategy based on nothing more than spite over Brexit.

Both the EMA and WHO have told these idiots to get on with it and not to stop using the Oxford vaccine. But still stocks go unused. They now face a major self inflicted vaccine hesitancy problem and an impending third wave of infection & death. Bravo!

I‘m so pleased we are free of the EU at this particular time. There is no way our vaccination would be so advanced. The U.K. vaccination programme is set to accelerate further into the lead when the Indian manufactured supplies land.

I don’t think it will be long before we will be fulfilling our pledge to supply more vaccine assistance to poorer nations than the entire 27 nations of the EU put together.

I wonder why ministers are responsible for such decisions. Take Italy for instance. Their overall "guidance" is EMA but that informs government through the Italian health ministry via similar organisations to such os our Sage. That entire structure is telling ministers AZ is safe, the hospital doctors involved in current crisis are asking this network why vaccine is suspended. Then ministers just over rule all this medical advice and stop the vaccine.
Firstly, I don't understand the decision but probably more important is I don't understand any structure where all the advice about a subject ministers know nothing can simply be ignored.
What next? This entire episode is already known to have no medical, statistical, moral or financial negatives? How do they justify it?
With a platitude?
It really does exemplify the stupidity of our governance, because you can bet same could happen here, and probably already has. We simply have not had it demonstrated so convincingly. (probably?)

One word, Oxford. That’s all it comes down to.

How do they justify it?
they suspend the vaccine, not cancel it.
It is a safety first approach to a possible causal link. Something we should practice ourselves if we can.
stock of AZ is still building up. Their jabbing capacity exceeds demand at present, when the study is done in a week or so, it will be back to higher vaccination rate than before.
You and JHC see too much into this. Don't forget all the 3 vaccines we use at the moment are new technology, we don't know yet what hidden problems they have.
I have doubt about these new RNA vaccines and was prepared to wait but after a year of semi-isolation, I took it when offered.
Studies have shown that the jabs don't stop the disease, you can still infect people you live with. Studies also show that the disease causes blood clots in some people. So there is a possible causal link between the jab and clots albeit statistically very low.

Also worth mentioning is the UKs world leading performance in identifying and tracking the mutation of the coronavirus. This data will be invaluable for the development of future vaccine.

BS. There has been no instruction to suspend use of the Oxford vaccine. Quite the reverse, the WHO and EMA have recommended its continued use. Don’t try and sell us the safety concerns crap.

The EMA will say continue using the Oxford vaccine again tomorrow, you know it and I know it. That snide oily pigmy and the other clowns who have allowed themselves to be drawn into this Brexit Spite-Fest will then have a task on their hands convincing people to take the Oxford vaccine. A task of their own stupid making.

Tomorrows humiliating climb down by the pigmy will be entertaining though.

Looks like the time has come to divert the heat from Woolly head by pointing the finger at a scapegoat

Revealed: how Chris Whitty's early advice set the template to keep UK's borders open during Covid crisis

Assuming this is true certain things can be concluded
  1. Witty could not see the problem caused by thousands of potential carriers permanently pouring in
  2. To me that utterly discredits the veracity of his logic
  3. If he is such an expert, how could he make such a mistake
  4. Against the "Advisers advise , Ministers take action"
  5. It should have been obvious to anyone brighter than Larry the Cat this was utterly and completely wrong.
  6. Worst of all Wooly Head has marked Witty as the chosen scapegoat in case there is an inquiry
It does shows if true how little we can trust the opinions of the recognised experts however highly qualified, and even less, politicians

The only Brexit spite fest around is in your imagination, by now quite rightly they almost certainly really don't give a damn about the UK, why should they? no profit in it.
And it's time you learned not to give a damn about them either!
Ask yourself this, what have they got to gain?
Absolutely nothing at all.

So on the one hand the EMA said use it and the EU commission rebukes governments that go against that advice.

Tell me, what the hell are you complaining about?
It's entirely the decision of the government of the countries involved.
They don't need your approval, and for what reason should they feel spite over Brexit?

I’ve not seen much mutation data coming out of the EU. We seem to be telling them / the world about newly identified variants. We must therefore be at the forefront. We have some good people based here in the U.K.
Indeed we do have some good people but in fact variants have been detected in 11 countries including the UK
So the world would appear in fact to be telling us at the rate of 10 to one.

From what I have seen there does not appear to be hardly any increased risk of blood clots from using the AZ vaccine and if there is an increase it is absolutely tiny so small it may well be just noise. I heard an expert say yesterday that they could not see any logical reason why several countries had paused the AZ roll out.

He went on to say that the data showed there was virtually no difference in the rates of blood clots between any of the vaccines in current use. So he could not understand why if countries were pausing the AZ vaccine then they should also pause all the other vaccines they were using too.

He did not want to say it but it was obvious that he thought a lot of this was political. Many politicians in the EU countries are being blamed by their electorate for the slow (relative to the UK and US) rate of vaccination taking place. It looks like they are trying to deflect some of this blame by trying to imply the AZ vaccine is possibly unsafe and so they were correct to take a slow and steady approach.

My worry is that people in this country are now going to become reluctant to take the AZ vaccine and our excellent roll out will start to slow down.

At one point, I saw several posts (elsewhere) from people who were ducking PB in order to get their preferred AZ.

I suspect most have no real basis for choosing one over the other (or makes yet to arrive). Of course, we are all prone to see reports of, even know people, who reacted badly. Degree of protection seems about the only potentially valid basis for preferences, so far.

I do care. It’s in everyone’s interest across the world that the EU vaccinate as many of their people as quickly as possible.

And it is most definitely spite.
