Just how special has the non-NHS healthcare sector of the UK been?
A pest control company is doing alright...

What will hopefully be invested in for the future will be a proper healthcare / nursing staff reserve, like the military has an army reserve / regular reserve for unforeseen circumstances / regular winter crises. As the Nightingale hospitals proved without staff they were nigh on useless, except as a place to clap outside for photo ops.

I suspect if it was not for Covid there would be a lot more head lines like this around.
Brexit worse than feared, says JD Sports boss - BBC News
It gets worse. I saw some ex-pats on the lunchtime news in a desperate state. It’s impossible for them to buy custard cream biscuits from shops specialising in imported U.K. food. Apparently the biscuit legislation and paperwork is horrendous!

Biscuits are an illegal currency used by expats, and if caught carry severe fines.

Apparently you can still fly off on holiday as an eco-tourist - just seen a client post pics of themselves in Kenya having an icecream by the beach! A week ago she was ill with coronavirus!
Will they be required to go into one of those 20,000 hotel rooms the government needs on Monday, but haven’t booked yet?

I've just been reading that there are now more Covid variants causing concern, one in Bristol and one in Liverpool. From what I have heard we are extremely good at doing the science required to find these new variants, possibly the best or one of the best in the world.

This suggests to me that there must be loads of different variants circulating all around the world that would be a cause for concern if countries had the facilities to carry out the testing that we do.

Oh Dear
"COVID-19: Government failed to contact 375,000 to tell them to shield, watchdog finds
As well as struggles to get in touch with people, 126,000 were contacted in error and told to shield when they didn't need to.

Opinion in the Independent
"
And this is no different. Once upon a time (just over a year ago), there was only one case of Covid-19 in all the world. And so, in theory, it only takes one selfish traveller, carrying a new variant, to take us right back to square one.
Travel quarantine policy is now deemed so crucial to containing the spread of coronavirus that breaking the rules is as serious as ABH.
The details of the legislation have not yet been published, so we must all wait and see what the even greater punishments will be. How long, for example, will the prison tariff be for failing to introduce any kind of meaningful travel quarantine policy for almost a full year? If just one person can get 10 years, for one offence, how long will the prime minister have to serve, for doing absolutely nothing about it until now?"

They are having a problem in Japan
Japan to discard millions of Pfizer vaccine doses because it has wrong syringes

Apparently the type available isn't able to draw the sixth dose from each bottle
Since they haven't received the doses yet surely they will find a way around this problem
I find the whole issue of a sixth (even, reportedly, sometimes a seventh) dose perplexing.

Yes, you need a tiny bit more than the nominal content to allow minor variations in draw-up, but am surprised it is quite so much.

Good news, but early.. Our resident hypocrite will find something negative no doubt.
Rather more sobering.
Since you are the resident hypocrite what's your opinion of this then ?
