Some aspects of racism are definitely involved in Covid death rates. Members may remember the high death rates on London's bus drivers at the start of the epidemic with most being black. Hardly surprising when the proportion of the drivers being black is so high. Why so high is due in large part to the fundamental disadvantages in employment choice that black people suffer, in part often due to their lack of privilege and opportunities in earlier life. This in turn frequently caused by the thread of continuing latent racism that persists in our society.While black and Asian staff represent only 21% of the NHS workforce, early analysis showed that they accounted for 63% of deaths among health and social care workers, the authors said.
