In an attempt to avoid the accusation of only seeing there could be an issue in hindsight, I'll put forward a concern which should already have been addressed. But we shall see...

When the wonderful AstraZenica vaccine, developed by the dedicated AstraZenica staff, and approved by the fantastic MHRA, arrives, there will be many questions about fairness.

Yes, the JCVI have prepared a document ranking us by age, state of health, etc., but what has been done to demonstrate fairness across those groups?

I foresee serious arguments that some areas have had as much vaccine as they want, while others are unable to achieve even the lowest levels of vaccination. That some areas have reached group 8 while others are struggling with group 2 ( https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/priority-groups-for-coronavirus-covid-19-vaccination-advice-from-the-jcvi-30-december-2020/joint-committee-on-vaccination-and-immunisation-advice-on-priority-groups-for-covid-19-vaccination-30-december-2020 )

I hope that this is handled proactively. First, by making public clear and accurate information. Second, by speedily doing something about inequalities that appear.

It is inevitable that there will be variations. Accept that. Don't hide them. Make sure the laggards (even if through no fault of their own) are enabled to catch up.

The JCVI could even help redeem reputations.

Sadly, I actually expect to see story after story after story about vaccination achievements - many highlighting genuine failures. But I hope otherwise.
It will be prioritised as follows:

1) London
2) The rest of England
3) Scotland
4) Wales
5) Northern Ireland

It's very obviously already happening and I've posted as such. And also evidence of, some not ever using the vaccicne they are getting or using it deliberately out of the prescribed order to advantage favoured people like NHS management.

I'm in London in the first health trust nationally to receive the Pfizer vaccine and have already posted that this is not true. In a priority group thsat was supposed to have it's first first jab before Xmas, I'm still waiting to be contacted. Meanswhile others have posted about those in the Midlands and North already having their jabs with a few even receiving their second already.

Righty, Essex primary schools told to remain open before Crimbo despite kids and staff off.

As schools closed for holidays head teachers intructed to plan & prepare to test pupils.

2 days before returning to school Boris Johnson insists schools are safe and children should return.

Later that afternoon Essex County Council says primary schools to remain closed until 18 Jan.

edit to add - Looks like Essex made the decision themselves for primary schools in Colchester, Tendring and Uttlesford which were meant to reopen Tuesday.

While awaiting a response from the DfE, Essex County Council advised schools to implement remote learning.

This early evening it's just been announced on London's BBC TV news that the first two London trusts to administer vaccine will begin tomorrow, neither of them my health trust who have been sitting on their stock of vaccine for fully a month.

So it appears everything we were told when watching the vaccine being stowed in the new German deep freezers at our Croydon University Hospital were lies. It seems it's not just the virus that's catching.

It's a repeat of the testing program, huge numbers claimed but delivery numerically woefully short or non-existent.

At this moment, I think we could understand (if not excuse), some unevenness on the basis of starting up a new system. But it should be reported and issues addressed as of Monday.

(I note Tesco has offered help in distribution. No idea of the financial aspects.)

Ok, Probably not of interest in the grand scheme of Covid vaccination rollout but.....

My Mom (89, not in the best of health) still hasn't received her yearly flu vaccine jab.

Just sayin..

John.
Yes it is of interest, when I took my wife for her flu injection (she's 77) the nurse said to me "I haven't got one for you" I'm 76.
When I mentioned this to our pharmacist she wasn't impressed
"Roll up you sleeve she said!" and did it there and then.
Perhaps you could try that too?

Thanks Old Groaner,
Yes I think I might. Mom is a nightmare, "****ing Hitler didn't stop us going out partying, Bloody Covid isn't going to either". Me, I work from home, the only person I speak to face to face is the woman on the checkout at Morrisons each week. She even thought it was a good idea to jump on the back of my Bandit last week to grab some urgent shopping, fortunately I didn't have a spare helmet.

I love her to bits but Christ she does my head in sometimes.

Fascinating
https://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/news/100million-brexit-boost-to-revive-uk-fishing-fleet-
Either it isn't going to be a very big fleet or there isn't going to be any investment on the on shore infrastructure needed
Fishermen are acutely aware at how much a new boat costs and this wouldn't even cover renovating and modifying the ageing fleet of hulks we have now.
And of course there is the question, will the government even remember this promise in the five years it is supposed to happen?
And of course if I was a skipper and an old rival was given a new boat before me, would I be pleased about that?
Better put Grayling in charge of this one!

Would appear to be a prime case for EU disagreement and (likely) the need for arbitration on state aid.

Obviously, if Grayling were in charge (is that the right term for him?), there would actually be no fishing boats.

Amazing how science uses what is well tried technology to find new applications.
In the 1980's I had to find a way of bonding support panels into bath panels with a hot melt glue which had a higher melting point than the polystyrene panel and support.
I turned to a German company called Meltec (I looked for them but they may have been taken over by 3M) who made a gun with a melting pot and pumping system that spun the glue out in a fine mesh they demonstrated by spraying the back of my hand, and the mesh was barely warm on my skin
We used this system up to my retirement and now someone who should be applauded has found a much more important use for the idea than I did
"Israeli firm claims device allows patients to move freely and does away with painful dressings "
Spider-Man-style medical gun spins out 'skin substitute' for burns
Whoever you are, Sir or Madam, I salute you!

I wonder whether anyone in the ~Leave camp has even given a moment's thought to the EU reaction?
No, since it's all hot air anyway ;)

Every time I see the phrase "Leave camp", I get a momentary mental image. Remember the very old, Camp Coffee picture? Days of the British Raj. Their promise as fake as the promised flavour of coffee.

Alert! Johnson seen out of the office whilst NOT WEARING HI-VIS!

Boris Johnson has been visiting a hospital in north London today to see people being injected with the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine.

It is incredibly hard to understand what Johnson gets from seeing a vaccine being given, live and in person, that would not be better viewed and safer on television.

Had I been offered a vaccination and asked if he could watch, I'd have refused. Even if it was not going to be photographed.

In my case that last paragraph would read
"No thank you, I don't mix socially with any old Riff raff!" :D
