Have you looked into paying voluntary class 3 NI contributions? You can check on line what your state pension is going to be and if you have been contracted out which it sounds like you have been if you have a government backed pension (I am in a similar position) then you can pay every month to make up the short fall. I took early retirement a few years ago at 55 and I pay around £60 a month to NI to make up for my contracted out years even though I have well over the 35 years people assume is all that is needed for a full state pension.Because I’m no longer paying NI or pension contributions,

I can't remember the exact details but its something like if you think your likely to live 3 years beyond your normal pension age (66 for me) then paying the Class 3 contributions is a sensible investment.
