Having had a number of "alternative" platforms to Twitter, etc., what about facebook?

Facebook policy changes fail to quell advertiser revolt as Coca-Cola pulls ads
Company follows Unilever’s lead after platform announces shift in how it handles hate speech

If facebook change their polices, will millions dash somewhere else? If facebook don't change their policies, will advertisers continue to stay away?

It isn't just me questioning what we are buying:

“The fundamental starting point is, yes, we’ve bought the wrong satellites,” said Dr Bleddyn Bowen, a space policy expert at the University of Leicester. “OneWeb is working on basically the same idea as Elon Musk’s Starlink: a mega-constellation of satellites in low Earth orbit, which are used to connect people on the ground to the internet.

“What’s happened is that the very talented lobbyists at OneWeb have convinced the government that we can completely redesign some of the satellites to piggyback a navigation payload on it. It’s bolting an unproven technology on to a mega-constellation that’s designed to do something else. It’s a tech and business gamble.”

Giles Thorne, a research analyst at Jeffries, agreed. “This situation is nonsensical to me,” he said. “This situation looks like nationalism trumping solid industrial policy.”
Just seen the BBC's headline for this:

Brexit: UK starts work on buying own sat-nav system to rival Galileo

In what sense will, or even could, our sat-nav system rival Galileo?

It would, first of all, need to be at least the equal of Galileo (and the others), then we'd have to manage to flog the facility to someone. Putting it up there and just allowing everyone access isn't a meaningful way of rivalling. Others will have to pay or they will just remain with what they already have.

Those alternative platforms are like ghettos for the marginals.
I can't see advertisers being attracted to any of them. They'd risk their public image.

Twitter share price dropped 7% yesterday. Kicking out people they don't like is turning out to be expensive. It's now 15% down since they kicked out Katie Hopkins and started a mass exodus. #Twexit is still trending.

Talking of social media, is anybody following Project Veritas? They've done some very effective stings. Here's their recent one on Facebook:

I think you tried too hard linking twitter's share price with the exodus of Trumpists to parler. Shares in both FB and Twitter follow the same pattern since COVID struck China. It's only because FB's capitalisation ($616BN) is much bigger than Twitter's ($23BN) that Twitter's share volatility is a bit more noted.
It's not as if you and I are likely to put our pension into those two.

To ghetto means to isolate and segregate, which is what all these platforms try to do. On the www it leads to ghettoing of the mind (something beyond tunnel vision). I find it hard to believe anyone actually take any of it seriously? Sure theres mainstream media and hits that, I guess, translate into money. But its is like pretending love island and katie price have any bearing on anyone's life because The Sun would like to fixate one with it.

I suspect that these platforms are meant to play with other people's money. It's like the early days of the mobile phones. Eventually, the surviving small players are gobbled up by the large players. At the time they sold, each mobile phone user was worth something like £100 a head for the mobile phone operators.
The time for small garage operations like Hewlett Packard and Intel (and with a certain parallel, Google and Facebook) to grow into giants is well and truly over as the technology matures.

Johnson is a man with a lethally bad way with words, that really should be prevented from being in a position to communicate with any other human being.
by any legal means
or in fact any means

For existing technologies, yes. But there is always the possibility of a new and different technology coming from such a start point.

at £10 a go a great gift for someone you really don't like, and think they use up valuable oxygen.
Safe as a Tory promise :D

In the good old days we would have been selling these to the English with a guarantee to the purchaser that in the event of Death they could apply for their money back

They use the bit of material where the sporran hangs on old recycled kilts Barry, it grips the face nice and tight :)
However, the Scots have no deaths from covid yesterday while ours are accelerating (43 last Saturday, 100 yesterday), I'm not sure running around with y fronts over our heads could be more embarrassing than a boris government.

Although he was a poor PM, I thought he did a decent job as chancellor. G Brown had a big hand in saving this countries and the Wests banking system during the great financial crisis. I don't think people realized how close we were to our entire financial system breaking down. The conservatives and their mates in the press made sure he never really got the credit for saving us all from absolute chaos.

I think some of the ideas he is proposing here in this link as a way to get out of the financial mess the country is shortly going to realize it's in make good sense.

Be interesting how anyone tries to manage this:

Leicester could become first city to suffer second lockdown within days after fresh spike in coronavirus cases
  • There have been at least 271 Covid-19 deaths in Leicester since outbreak began
  • Midlands is one of England's worst-hit regions, with second highest death count
  • Boris Johnson has warned he will reimpose lockdowns if the virus rebounds
  • Mayor of Leicester said warnings were 'speculative' and no plans for a lockdown
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8467565/Leicester-city-suffer-second-lockdown.html

Apologies for the source...

Here's an interesting one. Two stories for the same incident. The Sun says two people stabbed during an illegal rave, which makes it sound like the normal gang stuff. The Jewish(?) website says terrorism. Their photo shows orthodox Jews and police standing around outside a Jewish bakery during the aftermath and their videos show orthodox Jews standing around during the arrest. Somewhere below is fake news. See if you can find it?
