That is defeatist... A single pledge floor wipe with bleach,will last a block of flats. Dipping his gloved hand into a pocket containing the wipe..keeps everything sorted in that point. Even a plastic bag with soapy water will work... There is no point in being absolutist here, everything is about probabilities
Did you even read my post? How does swabbing a floor with bleach deal with the external door handle that I quoted the driver has to use to enter the hall to the flats front doors. How can the driver keep himself uncontaminated while keeping his glove exterior uncontaminated so his electronic signature box doesn't get contaminated, passing contamination to the customer whan they use it to sign?

As for the driver dipping his hand into a bag of soapy water when he has to handle his electronic signature box, stylus, use door handles, carry often heavy items and drive safely!!!!!!!

Remember, 136 drops in his 9 hour driving day, 3.97 minutes per driven delivery. There's no time for all your theoretical hopelessly impractical suggestions so they will never happen. That's not defeatist, its just someone who really knows from very relevant experience telling you what is practical and possible in this very low margin business.

Forget the theory, it's either get the job done or not done at all. With truly adequate precautions the courier companies would have to at least treble their fleets, staffing and pricing to get the deliveries done. And that's without the increase in deliveries that Covid-19 will cause as consumers increasingly buy online rather than go shopping.

I'm not saying don't use containment, I'm saying recognise why it won't work as you expect.

I was not talking about swabbing the floor.. the pledge Floor wipe is a nice large panel of paper saturated in bleach which if in the pocket or a poche would easily keep a plastic glove sterile just occasionally rubbing the glove in it. . If you are not prepared to think flexibly ... Keeping the glove moist with it as he presses buttons and handles ensures nothing survives. Half the time during a delivery, the person has hands free.
We have these delivery people here nearly every day..my son is an inveterate purchaser via Amazon ,and my wife is learning from him. In addition that same son is continuously getting medical supplies for his home IV, so I assure you , I am very conscious of vectors for transmission. The deliverer will not be carrying the electronic gizmo..it will be on a lanyard.
I would be more concerned in going to my local breadshop.

From my milkman

"Here at Milk & More, the health wellbeing and safety of our customers and staff is our first priority.

Our milkmen and milkwomen are following the guidance and protocols from Public Health England.

As a doorstep delivery service, our milkmen and milkwomen aim to deliver before 7am, this in itself minimises human contact and therefore reduces risk.
Each vehicle also has a hand sanitiser which is used in between deliveries.

Here are a few ways you can help us too:
  1. Please rinse your empties and leave them outside for us.
  2. Stay the recommended* one metre away if you do see our staff.

Please rest assured we will continue to monitor the situation closely and ensure we follow the guidelines/updates published by Public Health England and World Health Organisation."

Meanwhile with the 10 deaths in the last 24 hours bringing the total to 21

"There is certainly transmission of the virus within hospital - on Thursday three quarters of those patients with coronavirus in intensive care had not been abroad to an affected country.

They may have caught it in the community and the Covid-19 illness they developed lead to their admission or they could have caught it in hospital when they were already ill."

Wow! That many?

Only 36% of Britons trust Boris Johnson on coronavirus, poll finds

“The fact that only 42% believe that they will contract coronavirus while the government’s strategy assumes that a significantly higher proportion will become infected means there is the risk of a nasty shock for a substantial slice of the electorate,” he said.

Isn't that figure suspiciously close to the percentage of the electorate that voted Conservative?

Interesting. The French Government has requisitioned all face masks in France. .. and they will be responsible for distributing them as needs be. I have a particular interest in a part of Morbihan,in Brittany, where I have property. There are no cases reported there but it is in a cordon sanititare as there are heavy clusters adjacent.

I wonder how we are supposed to actually exist for Four months ?
https://www.itv.com/news/2020-03-14/elderly-to-be-quarantined-for-four-months-in-wartime-style-mobilisation-to-combat-coronavirus/
Elderly could be quarantined for four months in 'wartime-style' mobilisation to combat coronavirus, writes Robert Peston
ROBERT PESTON PESTON'S POLITICS
People over 70 will be instructed by the government to stay in strict isolation at home or in care homes for four months, under a "wartime-style" mobilisation effort by the government likely to be enforced within the next 20 days.

It is part of a series of measures being prepared by the prime minister, health secretary, chief medical officer and chief scientific adviser to prevent the health service from "falling over" and to save lives as Covid-19 becomes an epidemic in the UK.

They are deeply worried that some older people will simply die at home from neglect, after they are quarantined, so want to start the quarantine as late as possible - some time within the next five to 20 days.

The prime minister Boris Johnson and health secretary Matt Hancock are counting on neighbours and friends to rally round to make sure no one is neglected. "We are looking for a huge community effort," said a source.

My Tweet

The emergency efforts I want to made is to spare no effort or expense to find a cure, and stuff the excuses that it will take years, we need one in days or weeks, nothing else should be acceptable to the Government

Is Peston part of the "soften them up for it" campaign?

And what happens at the end of four months? Turf 'em out onto the streets?

In another side of my life, I am involved with an online health forum.

Someone is asking about becoming pregnant. Normally, a perfectly legitimate sort of question asked for sensible reasons. But with covid-19, what should people do?

Obviously, if they are pregnant, that's an existing situation. But planning? Previous experience tends to see intent expected to convert into reality in a few weeks to months. Anyone thinking more abstractly usually words things differently.

What is the best answer? I sure don't know. Strikes me that it could be a very bad time to bear children. Even if it is over in a few months, the post-covid-19 scenario might not be conducive for some time.

Good news?

And this too
English #publichealth leader Prof John Ashton has had his
@Twitter
account disabled this evening. He criticised the UK Government #coronavirus #COVID19 strategy on
@bbcquestiontime
and again this evening on
@Channel4News

There will be no news, so with luck people will forget Coronavirus and use the dead as draught excluders

Brought to you by your friendly local thought police in the Murdoch Press...

And on the other hand the Independent carried this

"From an eminent Psychologist"
"Despite the obvious seriousness of the situation it is important to keep the threat in perspective (during the 2017-2018 UK flu season there were

26,408 deaths and 1,692 in 2018-2019 (live link)

and it is estimated only 2 per cent of those who catch coronavirus will die.

The live link is to the Government Annual reports
