I thought it was a fish market where they happened to have bats (and bat faeces) either as pets or for traditional medicine, anyway the fish part, I think, was not the active ingredient. But were well overdue for a proper plague
Edit, I did some googling, DNA analysis say it was illegally traded pangolins (my apologies to the bats)
Given the continuing Tom Lehrer revival, that has to be a cue for:

Sharks gotta swim, and bats gotta fly
I gotta love one woman till I die

To Ed or Dick or Bob
She may be just a slob
But to me, well
She's my girl

He is 92 next month!

Following the award of the Nobel Peace Prize to then-US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger in 1973, Lehrer commented: “Political satire became obsolete.” And in 2002 he remarked, still less optimistically: “Things I once thought were funny are scary now. I often feel like a resident of Pompeii who has been asked for some humorous comments on lava.” About the political earthquakes triggered by US President Donald Trump, Lehrer has been silent.

The Cobra meeting should have been before this announcement. As any fule kno.

Not sure whether I should be more concerned about covid-19 or Johnson stopping at nothing.

Coronavirus: Widespread transmission in UK 'highly likely'
Widespread transmission of coronavirus in the UK is now "highly likely", Public Health England (PHE) has said.

Medical Director Prof Paul Cosford said the country must be prepared.

The prime minister will chair a meeting of the government's emergency Cobra committee later, after the number of UK coronavirus cases jumped to 36.

Senior ministers and health advisers will be told that the virus will present a "significant challenge".

The official government plan on how to tackle the spread of the virus will be finalised and signed off at the talks.

Boris Johnson will say the NHS is well-prepared and the government will "stop at nothing" to fight the virus.

Step right up, step right up, step right up,
Everyone's a winner, bargains galore!
Wonderful trade deals. Sailing soon...
A whole 0.16% against 5 or 8% loss.

This is the best case scenario for a US/UK trade deal - a rise in GDP of 0.16 per cent. Compared with govt estimates that 5 per cent will be knocked off GDP growth over the next 15 years under
@BorisJohnson
"Canada-style" trade deal with the EU. 8 per cent off under WTO model

It isn't the only problem.

You could get as far as making a vaccine but how do you test it? And, until you have tested it, you don't know how human bodies will react and whether it will work. So you need to use it and expose those who have been vaccinated to the virus. But who can you use? Yourself? (I think not!) Your co-workers? (They probably think not!) Anyone else and the virus will almost certainly be released by them.
I’m sure certain nations have ways of finding a few unwilling volunteers.

Don't worry! Johnson has it licked:

Q: What is the PM doing to reduce the spread?

The PM is washing his hands regularly.

I realise no one needs proof that Boris is an idiot and so is his owner, but this
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/2020/03/01/downing-street-department-health-locked-row-access-eu-pandemic/
No 10 and Department of Health clash over access to EU pandemic warning system in wake of coronavirus
Matt Hancock wanted to retain membership of EWRS as part of EU-UK future relationship deal, but Number 10 said no
Just how does this decision work with NI? There are, supposedly, common phytosanitary rules for the whole of Ireland - simply because of the land border.

Are we going to be in the incredibly ridiculous situation of having cross-border agreement and commonality of rules for crops and animals but not humans? What then for something that affects both - such as brucellosis, anthrax, even foot and mouth?

The Blond Clown is becoming a public danger
"President Ursula von der Leyen will today announce a newly formed coronavirus response team, set up within the EU’s College of Commissioners. The U.K. however, has opted out. This is a cutting off nose to spite face move by Britain:

British economy 'to grow 0.16% at best under US trade deal'
Admission lays bare limited benefits of ‘ambitious’ agreement with Donald Trump
The British economy would be at most 0.16% larger by the middle of the next decade under a comprehensive trade deal with the US, the government has admitted, laying bare the limited benefits from striking an agreement with Donald Trump.

In a document published by Liz Truss’s Department for International Trade designed to kick-start post-Brexit trade talks with the Trump White House, the government said the British economy stood to benefit from an “ambitious and comprehensive” trade deal worth a fraction of GDP, equivalent to £3.4bn after 15 years.

No wonder Boris is prepared to walk away, he shouldn't bother with them at all!
Where Brexit is concerned death by Coronavirus is starting to look like a good career option

Anyone fancy a new job? Have you got secretarial skills?

Priti Patel has come under increased pressure to resign as home secretary as another bullying allegation emerged just hours after the Cabinet Office launched a formal inquiry into claims she had mistreated her permanent secretary.

In claims reported by the BBC, the embattled minister was accused of shouting at a former aide with “unprovoked aggression” before removing her from her job.

The aide received a £25,000 government payout after a threatened lawsuit in which Patel was named, the report said, adding that Patel was accused of shouting at the aide to “get lost” and “get out of her face”.

We are committed to doing all we can to protect the public (so long as they are not my underlings) & keep dangerous terrorist offenders off our streets and and push honest decent civil servants out onto the streets.

'Billion-pound' UK battle plan: Boris Johnson's dramatic coronavirus clampdown could see suspected sufferers detained on entry, 'no-go zones' and an army of NHS volunteers called up to treat 'mass epidemic'

With Boris Johnson (bottom, addressing the crisis last night) warning of a 'mass epidemic', officials are urgently trying to speed up the six-month process of becoming a hospital volunteer. Helpers could be asked to feed patients, ferry them around wards or deliver medicines. The move is expected to be in a dramatic battle plan to be unveiled this morning.

So our battle plan consists of tending to the dying.......
With Volunteers who are "called up"
And where are they to be found, nad who has the time to train them?

Taking back control, but not as we know it
Not a good start Boris this is all too obvious BS

The readers comments are scathing!
