One person's view. But this time, from inside one part of the operation.

Heaven help us if no deal actually happens. Because, even with the best efforts of civil servants like me, Operation Yellowhammer won’t be enough, even with its enormous price tag. Not even close. And while – outrageously – there won’t be any economic analysis prepared by the government on the impact of the new deal, we already know – thanks to Office for Budget Responsibility forecasts – that the impact of no deal will make the £6.3bn spent this year on no-deal planning look like peanuts.

Civil servants have to perform their roles neutrally in order to be able to work with whoever is in government. That’s the job. But if I learned one thing from the Extinction Rebellion protesters who occupied most of Whitehall last week it’s that the impact of all of this will make us wish we had all got angrier sooner.

• The civil servant works in a Whitehall department and is currently part of Operation Yellowhammer

Read the deal
Fingers, your naivety, continues to surprise me. Can you now definitely show me the clause, which excludes you from sacrificing your unborn in this 220 page document. ? .. Act + explanations . Slightly extreme of course but only for the purposes of emphasis. Unlike a news cycle, laws last and have lasting consequences. Every line on this document needs to be parsed. It is even more important in the Westminster system as it misses the protection of a Supreme Court and a written consitution

So the Government wins
329 to 299
Disappointing for the future of the nation, though not unexpected.
Now begins the campaign to reverse this decision.

It will end in tears before that happens

There is a chance of an amendment to create a referendum, fear is a big factor of being held responsible if Brexit fails, as it surely will and result in a nearly 100% anti Brexit public.

What was interesting was that even after the vote in favour of the Bill Boris suggested pulling it for a couple of days to avoid scrutiny

I see the Government lost the second vote. All is not yet lost
Johnson stated only hours ago, to parliament, that he would pull the bill if the second vote was lost. IF he was telling the truth, that’s Brexit dead until after a GE. Anything could happen now, but I’d say the probability of Brexit being killed off has risen.

So long as enough people stop reciting the just get it done mantra.

Just revoke A50 doesn't flow quite as well.

I hate that phrase. This bill doesn’t get it done. It’s the starting gun for an intensification of the squabbling.

They should pull all TV programs and broadcast Brexit parliamentary debate and make people listen to what their vote has created. It’s not good enough to say, I’m bored now, wave it through I want to get back to taking an interest in reality TV slappers with gigantic tits.

Now that it is on the order paper, and has passed the first reading, is it not the property of the house, and not its sponsors ? It is merely convention that allows the sponsor to Pull a proposal
