I’m hearing that Labour’s latest vote loser is to force private landlords to sell their properties to the tenant at a knock-down price.

I think this is a one if the clearest indications of Labour’s hatred of ordinary working people. Being a private landlord isn’t something which is exclusively for wealthy people. Many ordinary working people invest in property for their pension and rely on the rent for their income in retirement. Buying a rental property represents a huge financial sacrifice for some, spread over many years. For many, just when they want to reap the rewards of their Sacrifices, Labour want to snatch it away and throw people’s financial plans into chaos.

The above would hurt me and to some extent I’ve anticipated it. That’s why I’ve started buying land and building small housing developments. Housing trusts hose money at such things.

Fingers fingers crossed!

Could Brexit get any better?

I think not!

Best time ever!

I own a few rental properties too and wouldnt classify that as work or making me an "ordinary hardworking person" (which does sound suspiciously the kind of soundbite thereza may would have come up with). Tying up so much potentially productive capital in economically unproductive bricks and mortar is one of the things we do wrong as a country.

OG, people such as nurses, those working in factories etc are buying second homes instead of a pension. They take out a buy to let mortgage, which cripples them, and hope that the rental income plus capital gain on the house will outstrip their expenses and leave them with something to retire on. Labour’s plan would destroy their futures. These are ordinary working folk who are sensibly thinking about and planning their retirement.

Conventional pension plans are a complete rip-off, so you can’t blame them for doing this. Labour hate anyone who takes financial responsibility for themselves. They view them as criminals to be punished and despised.
No one is blaming them for doing anything.
You misunderstand my point. The labour party would never get elected if it relied on the number of voters in your situation
It requires mass support from those at the bottom of the pile, and they most certainly do not view people in your situation as being of the working class as they understand it.
Hence policies are slanted to appeal primarily to them.

I have a couple of buy to lets and spent all of my working life down a coal mine.
I'm looking forward to telling the lads in the Miners welfare that I'm now middle class. :D :D :D
Haven't they told you that already? :D
Any at the Labour exchange would soon do so!
They will find it hard to emote with the idea that being retired and making money out of buy to lets equates in any way with being "Working class"

I wouldn't call this breaking news but I'm at Millbank today and the word/buzz in the newsroom is the election will be called this week.

edit

to be people like @OxygenJames who bet on such things you might get decent odds for this week.

Would you like to join me? I might be able to find you a corner to perch in, if you ask nicely of course.

I'm moving to St Neots. That's my Brexit reward.

I am a simple man at heart. A sip of beer, a commute that affords me book reading time and some morris dancing at the weekend will do me.

No need for an ivory tower for me.

Make sure he gets something upright and firm he can't fall from while dozing, he still suffers from concussion, much to the amusement of the other bats in the belfry
