Following the shortage of continental crop pickers coming in now, following the Brexit vote, the Home Office has introduces SAWS, Seasonal Agricultural Workers Scheme.

They've appointed two private companies to recruit workers and I understand that much of the recruiting will be from the Ukraine and Russia. That could lead to some "interesting" scenes in our fields, and no doubt the FSB will have pricked up their ears when learning of this opportunity.
.
Presumably that nice Mr Putin will equip them appropriately?

Laugh of the day in the Independent
https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/trump-uk-ambassador-kim-darroch-tweet-memos-twitter-a9002646.html

Donald Trump has said he wishes Britain’s outgoing ambassador to Washington Sir Kim Darroch well following his resignation over his leaked diplomatic communications
Sir Kim stepped down on Wednesday saying his position as UK envoy to the US had become “impossible” after Mr Trump branded him a “very stupid guy” and a “pompous fool”
The US president claimed on Friday that he had been told Sir Kim had actually said “very good things” about him, and suggested the ambassador was “sort of referring to other people” when making negative remarks about the White House.

He's made a proper Boris of himself!

Humptytrumpty fell off his wall
His tweets have made him have a great fall
the white house keepers around his playpen
Had to come up with a way
to "untweet" him again

anon (ish)

just to think the conservative membership is going to foister BJ on the nation as the next PM.
He peddles 'optimism' - why can't they see it (his optimism) as an euphemism for lies?
He lied to them about Gatt24, about the cost of no deal as vanishingly small, do or die at 1 million to one, then on the O'Neil interview, he claims his interest is in the poor among us? Hello?

Just watched Andrew Neil question JH and BJ, its going to be a shame when Neil retires, he is the only interviewer who does not let BJ bluster his way through the questions. All TV and radio journalists should watch this programme and learn how to deal with someone like BJ.

Brexit Party fury: Farage declares war on 'fake polling' after shock results - EXCLUSIVE
NIGEL FARAGE has accused a research firm of “fake polling” after the Brexit Party slumped in a recent survey.

Sound familiar?

I wonder why the press keep describing this one man startup company as a party?
,and give it so much coverage?

I must say the man is inventive.
Money from supporters can be paid straight into the company's account like regular income, money can be spent without oversight as 'sale costs' or business expense. Remember what the Japanese authorities used as reasons to detain Carlos Ghosn?

A classic example of editing of the video by cutting it short in the Daily Mail
Andrew Neil confronts Boris and the video end when Boris denies the charge!

Interesting that the general feeling among the press appears to be that "press freedom" trumps the official secrets act.
My two pennorth is that we have the official secrets act for reasons that are better than the urge to sell newspapers for a profit, or political influence for bribes.

It is regrettable that the official secrets act has to exist, I agree
Even more regrettable that having signed it people will renege on their word
Even worse that there are unscrupulous people who think they have a right to use a leak as a political weapon.
They are as bad as the perpetrators of the leak, and act against the state they live in.

Shades of the claim that "The Communists Burned the Reichstag"

And remainers "used" oakeshot to do it?
pull the other one, it's got bells on!
Where do they dredge these idiots up from?
As one tweeter put it,

That’s the most stupid assertion of the week, and in a tough field one of the most stupid assertions of the year.

they have a point, although it's not clear how the IPA would be applied in this case.

One thing for sure, the police are looking for those who leaked classified documents.

Here is chapter and verse on the official secrets act
https://researchbriefings.parliament.uk/ResearchBriefing/Summary/CBP-7422
It would appear a good idea for the Government to simply notify Oakeshott that she is "Covered by the official secrets" act to prevent further releases from the same source
And there are some interesting observations here

https://www.theguardian.com/media/2004/feb/05/broadcasting.politicsandthemedia

It seems others have been "done" in the past for the same publication of leaks.

I would not be surprised if one of BJs favorite quotes is this one by Groucho Marx "Those are my principles and if you don't like them….well I have others".
Theresa May used that quote during PMQ this week when addressing Jeremy Corbyn. She’s been reading Gerald’s contributions to this thread, he’s uses it too.

We are sending our gunboats in the wrong direction it seems
And there is less danger of the engines breaking down in the cold Irish Sea too

Oh good grief....
Another Mad right wing society emerges from the swamp, The Henry Jackson Society works across borders and party lines to combat extremism, advance democracy and real human rights
Including apparently the Human right to use bribes and threats?

What's not to like?

I was highlighting it to annoy Bell. He uses it everyday and noone ever comments on it. I wanted to praise Nev in the hope Gerald would be irked.

To be fair to the g unit he never bit. But he may have done later on. You spoilt my fun.

I’m so sorry :( I hadn’t read down as far as your response before I posted mine. I would have let it roll on had I seen it. There will be more chances in the future.

The press can argue as much as they like about the appropriateness of publishing something. They can take everyone (government, police, ministers individually) to court. They might be right and they might win.

But it is not right for them to publish without due regard to the law - whatever it says. After all, their right to publish at all depends on the law and they wouldn't want anything affecting that.
