I thought I had carefully asked where it said that - not that it was essentially wrong.

It could be the case that some EU standards are wrong-headed, excessive, or whatever. But nothing that I saw from the leave campaign said that I personally would have to put up with lower standards because we won't even have the choice. As I have repeated, choice is only possible if the information is available.

From my own point of view, allowing bromine-based flour conditioner would be terribly wrong. Hormone-injected cattle, chlorinated chicken, etc., are possibly more arguable though my personal view is I do not want them.
OK. Fair enough.

You mean Trump's boss?
Are you sure you want to bring that up?
You say dumber and dumber things with every passing post.

If Putin is Trump's boss - how come Trump is threatening Putin's love child Venezuela?

Figure that one out and get back to me.

While I agree with you on market forces of course, there is another factor which will influence politicians.

The maintenance of a large and healthy active domestic farming sector is an essential component of our defence strategy, and a reason for subsidies to be applied if necessary.

Like me, they and the civil service have not forgotten the lesson of World War Two in this respect.
.
OK. Fair point. Right now we only produce around 60% of our own food - so we'd already be in trouble if the worst came to the worst. But that is a fair point you make for sure.

The loss of the X-Trail is bad news. But it’s interesting it’s not going elsewhere in EU."
Indeed, as I've already posted, it's gone to Japan since the sales here are too poor to justify it being made here.

It won't make much difference anyway, this compact 4 x 4 sector is fiercely competitive and Nissan's X-Trail in mark 1 and 2 forms haven't sold in large numbers. Rivals from Toyota, VW and Honda's CRV have the best of the market.

Sorry Flecc - this doesn't fit with Woosh or whoever's narrative that the EU standards are perfect and the US and anybody else's are rubbish.

They won't be amused.
The EU is probably pretending not to notice since the two operations I mentioned are largely carried out in Africa and Brazil respectively.

Mind you, I do like the EU keeping an eye on things, since our own governments have been as bad as that as much else they do.

Our foods have all sort of horrors in their preparation.

Take a can of tangerine segments, this is how they are produced:

First the fruit are blasted with superheated steam to jellify the peel and make it fall off. Then the inner fruit is dumped into a hydrochloric acid bath to dissolve the skin from the segments to leave them free. Next they go into a caustic soda bath to neutralise the hydrochloric acid. From there it's into two water baths to wash off the caustic soda, thence into the cans.

Meanwhile all the rejected fruits at the input are squeezed for their juice, that is topped up with water which is then used to fill the cans before sealing.

Yummy!!

And then there's the production of decaffeinated coffee. That uses Methylene Chloride, Ethyl Acetate or Formaldehyde to remove the caffeine and there is always a residual of those in the decaff we buy and drink.
.
Have you ever seen how they get crab meat out of the shell ,not a pretty sight!
KudosDave

Andrew Neil just now:

"The global car industry is in crisis, for various reasons. None more so than Nissan, whose recent boss is in jail. Brexit has added to the global troubles for those operating in Britain. The loss of the X-Trail is bad news. But it’s interesting it’s not going elsewhere in EU."
It doesn't need to since it is going to Japan and they have a Free Trade agreement with the EU.
So remind me, what was interesting about that? did it give you some crumb of comfort?

I don't have to do I? whatever makes you think I do?
Are you just doing your usual trick of trying to create a diversionary argument?
Figure it out for yourself.

Terrific Humour from Boris in the Express
Boris Johnson FURY at claims he threw away vital Brexit documents in a public bin
BORIS Johnson has rubbished claims he chucked away 70 pages of Parliamentary Brexit documents in the bin of a petrol station.

But defiant Mr Johnson said: “Just as the British public are complaining that newspapers are full of rubbish, the Sunday Mirror has gone out and proved it by publishing the contents of a petrol station bin.”

In the handwritten notes, Mr Johnson allegedly detailed a claim chief whip Julian Smith is plotting a second referendum after failing to pass Theresa May’s deal through parliament.

He also suggested there is “no strategy” for leaving the EU without a deal on March 29.

What sort of a defence is that ? Confirmation of stupidity being spun into criticism?
Truly the man is mad as a box of Frogs

What do you say now OJ?

You know sod all except the sound of your own ridiculous opinions.
Correction. I know what you are, what you represent and why you persist in starting pointless diversionary arguments
Not a ridiculous opinion, but simply reading your own words.
And by now, so does everyone else, with the nonsense you post.
None of the economic ideas you proferr stand up to scrutiny., they are in fact dangerous.

There, there, don't worry your pretty (or not so pretty) little head.

Afraid that the government's continuing failure to truly reassure and demonstrate preparedness makes these stockpiling stories entirely understandable. No-one has said that they will take responsibility should there be shortages. No-one has said they will first overcome any shortages that occur then commit seppuku.

No - what we get are these platitudes. Blame patients who are trying to look after themselves. For those who are dependent on medicines, the consequences of not getting them can be serious both directly to themselves and to those who depend on them. If you need your medicine in order to be able to function and work, not being able to get it will deprive the rest of us of your skills.

I am relatively mildly affected but suspect that three days without my medicine would start seriously to make driving dangerous and work far more difficult.

Of course, if I have a stockpile, it also removes me from those people who will be panicking and needing to draw on the NHS's claimed six weeks supplies.

If there is no problem, and not likely to be one, why has the NHS ensured six weeks stockpile?

Brexit: 'No need' to stockpile medicines warning

By Zara Morgan BBC News
With the possibility of a no-deal Brexit two months away, one 26-year-old has started stockpiling her diabetes medication in case of shortages.

Rebecca [not her real name], who has type 1 diabetes, has put aside six months' worth of her drugs.

But the Welsh Government said individual stockpiling creates an "unnecessary pressure" on the system.

The Department of Health said it had stockpiled six weeks' worth of drugs for the public in a contingency plan.

good to see our hard-earned annual EU contributions ending up in the italian Mafias pockets - how nice to see our money going to such a noble cause,
par for the course from the Brussels gangsters!

Sicilian mafia made £2.6bn from swindling EU funds intended for national park

The mafia has earned €3 billion (£2.6 billion) over the last decade siphoning off EU funds intended for a national park in Sicily, according to a former director of the protected area who survived an assassination attempt by the mob.
In 10 years they were able to fraudulently pocket €3 billion, said Mr Antoci, who battled for years to put a stop to the fraud and still has to live under police protection.

He gave an example of a tract of land, covering 1,000 hectares (2,470 acres), which the mafia rented for €36,400 a year.
“They managed to make €1 million or more on those 1,000 hectares,” Mr Antoci explained in his book, The Mafia of the pastures – Europe’s big fraud.
“For years, mafia families terrorised honest landowners and rented land within the park for a few thousand euros, pocketing each year hundreds of thousands of euros from the EU,” he said.
The mafia are nothing if not creative. In one case, they received €200,000 in EU funds to build a bed and breakfast but used the money to construct a villa for a mob family.

It is not just in Sicily that the mafia has supplemented its traditional activities of racketeering, loan-sharking, drug dealing and prostitution with involvement in the farming sector.

It has infiltrated agriculture across the country and has interests right along the food chain, from producers to wholesale markets and restaurants, anti-mafia prosecutors say.
The value of the “agro-mafia business” was estimated at more than €22 billion last year.

Does anyone know what impact a no-deal exit would have on mainland electricity interconnects to Europe?
None at all, the interconnects, shared usage and wholesale euro pricing remain the same. Ours is priced at 52 euros per megawatt.

You're right - what argument? You keep avoiding having it.
But you don't actually have any argument worthy of attention, that's the problem, all your posts like this one have no relationship the "Brexit for once some facts" so why is it worth while joining in your spoiling tactics?
Try posting on topic, as an example not propaganda intended to undermine Agriculture here to "Make America Great Again"
And lower the quality of food in the shops replacing it with low value junk.

Tell me why are you blaming the EU for a failure to act by the Italian Government?
Surely even you can work out where the responsibility lies there

Sky News reporter Becky Johnson, who is in Sunderland, said: "The main sentiment that I'm feeling from people I'm speaking to here is one of defiance.

"You have to remember that in the referendum almost two-thirds of people here voted to leave the EU.

"I've spoken to one man, whose two adult children in their 20s both work at Nissan, and he said to me 'let Nissan leave Sunderland, we will be okay, we will find something else'.

I believe the technical term is

UK trade secretary says EU 'irresponsible' to refuse to reopen Brexit deal
.
“Are they really saying that they would rather not negotiate and end up in a ‘no-deal’ position?” Fox told Sky News in a pre-recorded interview. “It is in all our interests to get to that agreement and for the EU to say we are not going to even discuss it seems to me to be quite irresponsible.”

An even bigger idiot than he seems.
Who are they being irresponsible to? not us as we have already made and agreed a deal with them, and that means they have no further responsibility towards us as they have discharged it very generously.
