Funny nobody talks about Portugal, maybe because:
A country where economic migration is slowly reversing and the government is working on incentives to get the educated youth to come home to take up jobs that they currently can't find candidates for!
LOL!

Another country with a wretched unemployment figure at 7.6%, nearly double that of the UK.

Seems economics aren`t your forte

I`ve always wondered about a country whose citizens aligns itself with a bird..

that can`t fly!!

thank-you gentlemen, you`ve just proved my point,

the UK no longer will throw billions of hard earned tax payers money every year to faceless bureaucrats in Brussels to pass on to basket case countries whose governments are clueless on how to improve their economy.
Wrong again, most of the money going to the likes of Greece has been repayable loans. Much smaller amounts go as grants to disadvantaged regions, like West Wales for example, badly neglected by the UK government you seem to have so much faith in.

That UK government prefers to stay in power by giving a billion or more to the DUP, rather than spending it relieve hardship.

West West Wales
To replicate an economy like that of Spain, Greece, Portugal etc etc etc?

Ah, great....count me in

PS. Charity begins at Home
More a case of replication and waste:

Companies face an extra 20 billion pounds ($27 billion) a year in costs to comply with the customs arrangement if there is a no-deal Brexit, Britain’s most senior tax official said on Tuesday.

Classic example of Fake News there Flecc on both counts i`m afraid,

Greece receives 6,536.93m EUR

Greece contributes 1,762.03m EUR

so your saying the 5mEUR imbalance is `repayable`?? LOL!!

and as for the DUP negotiating a billion from the gov, as you very well know not a round penny went `to the DUP` as you suggest, but in fact is being at this very moment being distributed to ALL the citizens of NI irrespective of voting preferences.

Not fake news at all Tommie. I was speaking of the repayable loans to Greece, not the EU wide wealth redistribution program to help all countries reach the same standards.

And I don't think distributing that one billion to all N.I. citizens compares with helping poor regions.

Ah, its all clear now....how foolish of me

Official figures courtesy of Clan Bell!

Eh, what.... it must be true folks....
Tommie, we in England haven't had an honest unemployment figure from any government since Thatcher shut down the coal mines in the 1980s. Her government introduced the dodge of putting all the redundant miners on invalidity benefit to keep the already high unemployment figure in check, and that abuse has continued ever since.

The present government in both guises has been using private agencies to try to force those on the benefit back into work, but not into the unemployment figures.

And invalidity isn't the only dodge. Others include unpaid training jobs with companies on the pretext they might get a job at the end, unpaid training courses and voluntary sector jobs, none recorded in the unemployment figures.

When I pointed this out above you thought it funny, but I can assure you it's anything but amusing to those caught in this system.

Where corruption is concerned, the EU has nothing to teach the past masters in this country.

Nothing to do with Clan Bell Tommie, from the TUC using the Eurostat method of measuring unemployment, that you were happy to hold up as an example of how poor things are in the EU
As you said "Eh, what.... it must be true folks...."

So yes, you were foolish, but then that's usual for you.

Undeserved at the expense of the rest of the UK as a political bribe,

The BBC has this rather fascinating information
By 2014, the Catholic population in Belfast has risen to 49 percent, while the Protestant population has dropped to 42 percent, according to BBC News.

It isn't completely unlikely that the UK Government would try the ruse of solving the Border issue by offering a Referendum on reunification.

If it came to a vote to reunify with the South, when the majority are Catholic, what odds would anyone give for the independent future of Northern Ireland?

The UK population's reaction would be interesting, wouldn't it?
