The shortest time route to the continent is by ferry from rosslare to Cherbourg. Travel through the uk is marginally cheaper but always took longer. The pembroke to channel ports takes how long? The angesea to channel ports a bit longer.
If the UK were to play silly about air routes, then they can give up any notion of going to tge USA.. the Shannon ATC covers the north Atlantic.
This is decending into farce.
Does this Mr Fox know anything about international treaties, the law of the sea etc? .. perhaps he should spend a day in the maritime college in Portsmouth, where my brother trained.
If he actually came out with that guff, he should not be let out without nurses.
Never mentioned sea crossings but good luck ferrying all your export goods on the current 2 a day weather dependent crossings.

I think you meant the joint Shanwick service dependent on Scottish Prestwick provided ATC data.

I don't think Liam Fox needs to learn sea law to negotiate Trade deals:rolleyes:

They and their political marionettists have no answers to the important questions about 'Brexit' and they have no good news they can publish about the economy so, in the absence of anything positive which can be said about our prospects, they publish their age-old, anti-socialist propaganda.

Now, with the news about James Hewitt's son - oops! Apparently that has been denied by err.....Hewitt......oh!.... and a copper from the royal protection squad. Silly me! Prince Harry marrying some American gold-digger, (haven't we been here before?), the tory rags will have ample material to keep their simpletons naive, brainwashed readership happy, maybe with the addition of a few column inches about 'Corrie', 'E. Enders', 'X-Factor' or 'Get me out of here'.

Still, it's good to know that in this 'Big Society', we're all in it together!

I'm having a late breakfast this morning and I'm feeling a bit hungry so I think I'll have an extra bowl of sovereignty - that should sustain me through to lunchtime.

I really don't know where is is coming from or going to, but if the statement is that a uk tumbling out without a viable trade deal will want vengence on ireland for standing up for themselves and would block passage through england, well there are two sides there. It would be totally illegal and would force sanctions on them. International trade both air, sea and land transit is governed by hundreds of years of legally binding conventions. There will be plenty of contributors on this forum more expert on these logistics than I.
If the point was that transit through england would be disrupted by the new trailer parks required by two sets of customs, we knew that and I flagged it up thousands of posts earlier. If mr Foxes team are only coming to that realisation now, then they are highly incompetent. If they are unaware that trade patterns have changed in 45years , so that the EU including the UK needs free flow of materials , then they have no knowledge of modern industrial practices.
As it currently stands, high value goods from ireland .. microprocessors, pharma, industrial diamonds are shipped by air, and lower value goods by sea.
And yes Prestwick is part of the network, but 90% of the transatlantic air traffic gets controlled via Shannon. Its got to do with geography...

i imagine that is some sort of veiled threat. much like threatening to close the air space. I find this kind of threatening aggressive attitude of brexitters intriguing. almost as intriguing as when they project their attitude into others (i.e. when the eu get framed as threatening for not indulging their every whim). I have no doubt differences will resurface. but only on one side. the uk. as part of it progressively dawning on the electorate how screwed it is.
