With respect to Mr Davis, I don't think it would make much odds if he were replaced. It's not the medium its the message. ..and the UK message is confused.
If one member of the cabinet speaks and contradicts another that might play well in domestic politics but it does not serve international negotiations.
I can agree with Peter that what we on the outside hear may be totally different than what's going inside closed doors. They could be enjoying fab games of tiddly winks, they could have had everything sorted after the first round of Jammie Dodgers, but somehow I doubt that. The eu side are saying that there is not enough progress.
I did suggest that after the inconclusive election that the British government should have asked for their paper back on the grounds that they could not proceed at that time. But was Mrs May reading this thread?
What do you mean by 'the EU side are saying that there is not enough progress'?

The words are relatively clear, the statements from the eu side are that we cannot yet report sufficient progress to recommend moving to phase 2. Beyond that I have no further information.

As an example there is a lengthy article on the rte website... RTE is the irish equivalent to BBC..they would llovee to be compared like that . Identifying the complexity of keeping a valid Good Friday agreement if one of the parties to the agreement is outside the eu. What looked like a one liner is turning into 150 separate actions

The 3 initial matters are easy to overcome, the U.K. has already the solution...
1, Expat rights....appear to be close to a deal
2. We have calculated that we owe £18 billion.
3. If the EU gives the UK a free trade deal then the Irish border problem is overcome.
Simple, easy, nothing more to discuss....the EU just needs to pick up these solutions and Brexit is concluded.
No 'further progress' is required.

3.

No its not is it? Trade maybe but not people.

UK wants hard border with EU, even if there is free movement of trade goods. So say we do get a free trade deal without needing to be in the single market.

What do you do about this problem?

The Brexiteers would suggest that there be a diode junction from a to d ... Anything goes a to d , but nothing d to a.
There is one solution which would work for the Brexiteers. However it requires an understanding of the current temperature in hell..and when it is likely to drop below 273 Kelvin.

If the UK were happy with option 3. With jurisdiction by the ECJ, maintaining EU environmental standards, and allow limited free movement of people , why they can even piggyback on EU free trade arrangements with the 42 other countries, we could live with that and they could probably keep their money...

yeah a zener diode across those lol!

This is so so simple.. make A , B, and C the same just like it used to be and problem solved

try not to be so intransigent Dan, wouldn`t it get the E.C.B. off your backs down there for a start, no more debt repayments and always the chance of negotiating a £1 billion for your region every now and then ;)

you know it makes sense....

.. in the olden days, we looked forward to visitors coming from the North or England if they came with orange and mint flavoured Aero bars or Spangles.. tubes of boiled sweets in a range of flavours unavailable in the south.. so if you can arrange the Spangles, we could have a deal...

It's probably down to you choosing, maliciously, I might add 'to Tory austerity'. The truth being that, irrespective of whose fault it was, we were in the mire financially and the Government had to do something about it before we were in the s-h-i-t to then move this on to suggest hundreds of thousands have died as a direct result is plain politicking.
That is exactly that kind of view shared by those who deny the holocaust of the 1940s and the one currently being perpetrated by Israel on the Palestinian people.

You really are entrenched in your tory views to such an extent that I now believe you are beyond help.

1) Untrue at this moment except in Mrs May's note to her propaganda office.

2) We lied - the EU believe it is much more.

3) Not yet up for discussion.

Almost, but not quite, as good as this one.

Chant of the week

You're not good, we lose every week!

West Ham fans yesterday on losing to Watford
The Hammers fans are wrong in the first three words of line1 because Watford are a formidable side again this season.

They currently stand 5 points away from a top-four spot in the PL.

Oh for crying out loud!
"
Show us some respect – we’ve died for you
Britons have given their lives for Europe. That’s why we are angry the EU is treating us like criminals"

No you haven't! and they are not treating you like criminals, just like the fools you really are if you fall for Corny mock Patriotism.
Ask yourself this, how many who voted for Brexit fought in the second world war?
Since they didn't why do they assume anyone owes them anything?
Let's take an example of those who really did.
My father: he was 42 in 1939 and had been out of the Army for some years, he saw my sister who was a babe in arms screaming when they tried to put her in one of those gas masks for babies where the mother had to pump air in with a bellows.
"I'm not having this!" he said and despite Mother's protests when straight round to sign up again.
His reason and those of his brothers had nothing to do with any foreign country about which they cared nothing.
It was in defence of home and family, simple as that.
By making such nonsense up to serve your political agenda you dishonour the generation that fought for it's home and families.
Desist and act with respect for their memory.

So nobody died or suffered then? and the poor bankers had to be rescued and their million pound bonuses protected .

Why wasn't the money taken from the Bankers rather than the poor?
And why are none of the Bankers in Jail for what they did?

It's more likely you, OG that needs to lighten up. I didn't write it nor did I offer it as being my thoughts. However, I'm sure that many people think this way and I respect that viewpoint. There was much in that piece that did ring true, at this point in time.
