Yet we call teenagers surly.
.
One should view them in a more benign way, for after all we were once teenagers, at a time when there were fewer temptations and you had to work much harder to get the ones available.

This thread is really flying now..

The first 1000 pages were posted at a rate of 2.2 per day, but we've posted 7 pages in the last 24 hours.

2000 pages here we come?
.

Going back to my earlier post...
Not on about censorship at all...just think all media outlets over an agreed limit should be graded with that grade visible. We all like to quote this and that and even name source when it suits us...but many ( all ?) would not in my opinion deserve an "A" grade..( ie free from bias, straight forward reporting with no agenda or political affiliations; prejudice or motives)
Yes, we all accept Mail would be around a C grade ( ie last in 3 tier system) but what about Wiki, Google, Canary, etc etc. All have influence (and bias ) but we assume impartiality for some...because they match our own doctrine and possible indoctrination.
Its shocking when our own BBC, paid for with public money, would at best get a grade B from me ? No way an A..???
Zatlan, I have sympathy for your viewpoint but the problem is who polices it.. who polices the police . If there were a news standards body, who would be on it? . The courts allow for defamation and loss of privacy etc , but even these remedies are of limited value because once the news is out, it cannot be recinded and people will go into the well there's no smoke without fire mindset.
One of the more valuable attributes of growing older is that one learns discernment, maybe that is what wisdom actually is. .. someone tells you something, you don't immediately accept it , but compare it mentally with other things you know and then reject it or accept it if it computes

It's no good telling him that, as he will have accepted and rejected your missive several times before he sits down to have his tea.
By the time he's done with it it's own Mother wouldn't recognise it! :D

with the printed press, we know who said what and the onus is on the publisher to vet their contributors.
the problem we have is the internet platforms, including this one.
If I am for example, fed up with oldtom's insults, I can't sue the site's owner for defamation.
The law needs to change to make internet media and contributors more responsible with what they post and there should be more parallel with the printed media.

I would certainly agree with that even if did mean that the rate of postings on here would soon reach an all time low. Someone, totally unbiased, would need to vet every post.

There's more - I pressed the wrong button. As for OldToms insults that's subjective and other's might deem them compliments, other than that where's the money to come from.

Could we have those grading's on here instead of the Like, Dislike, funny etc. I guess just about everyone would get a bias one but I'm sure we can live with that.

Yes ofcourse there are people who think racist, idiotic, xenophobic and scum are positive attributes. Not many though...Don't include Troll, that is almost a compliment from Tom...

Well that depends where you,ve learnt your discernment. Its a characteristic we all think we have but everybody's is based on ones own choice of " facts" and reliable information. Some folk believe every word in the mail, some in canary, some on wiki, some on BBC. At moment as there are no standards any source could be corrupted, and probably is.

Listen Carefully, I shall say this only once.

There is actually a button marked "offensive language" you know on the extreme right
It is normally only used when people start talking sense, as this could ruin the "Ambience" of the thread, and hence tends to be ignored and forgotten.

I always believe what you say
(Even if nobody else does)

Just kidding, there is much truth in what you say, except when there isn't of course and strangely that's the time I enjoy the most.
Circular arguments are a great spectator sport, like watching the Apaches surround Custer at the little Big Horn.

Just a Cotton Pickin' Minute thar Boy!
Who's the one who has called me "MAD!" "waiting for his meds" "Shouts for the Nurse!" and various other things in the past?
And who's most succinct remark in response to one of mine was the immortal one liner
"Twat!"?
(It still beings a smile to these old saggy jowls of mine.)
It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't true!

Scant thanks indeed for the way I stand up for you and tell people that of all of us on here you are the only one who can defeat himself in an argument.

Nurse!

How useful is that... I had wondered what it meant, no wonder it's not used much.

I guess the question that remains is has the condition gotten any worse for you? Actually, I guess not you still seem fairly sharp to me and there are more than a few tools on here I'm sure.
