There'll be no investigation on this. Nobody will be incurring overtime, working around the clock or pulling extra shifts, unfortunately. You'll get a crime number for your insurance claim. Case unsolved. :(

Although it may be solved as a 'T.I.C' (taken into consideration) when they do catch a bike thief later. One that will admit to a thousand bike thefts for a more lenient finding at court.

However, had you been murdered, or become involved in a hit and run with that vehicle, it could be solved with relative ease.

Crime, sadly, is a business.

They have never seen that method of bike theft. In fact they would not have believed me without that photo.
It's a theme they're used to though. Years ago it was bag snatching, someone running past and grabbing a handbag. More recently we've had the smartphone snatching, someone riding a bike or a moped pillion passenger grabbing a phone from someone as they rode past.

This is just one step up, from the comfort of a car seat.

Worth an appeal for information I would have thought.

Fairly cheap and easy for the coppers these days.

They put the appeal on their website and social media, which is then picked up by the local media.

A bike being held onto the side of a car is something that someone may have noticed.

Wicky's nifty Photoshopping means there's an image to go with the story.

If the coppers really can't be bothered, the local paper may be interested given that you have an almost ready made package and an unusual tale to tell.

I heard of a vaguely similar theft from a couple of Dutch touring cyclists who I met in Scotland recently.

They both had fairly new and expensive bikes - Rohloff hubs, Gates drive, etc - would be the best part of £3K each over here.

The bikes also had frame mounted rear wheel locks, which the male of the couple told me he is cautious about using in Amsterdam where, he said, bike theft is very common.

Some thieves have a short hooked strap attached to the waistband of their trousers.

They use this to lift the rear wheel an inch or two off the ground.

This enables them to walk off with bike, appearing to push it as the owner would.

If you were in living Corsica or the south of Italy nobody would have seen a thing  Or in England where people do tend to turn their backs so as "to not get into any bother".

Which is why I also got the plugin chain to attach it to street furniture or I put it through the front wheel.

"Got a reg number but police say its not registered"

So error in no. or false plates - What plate no. did you get?

An idea might be to also contact Ford dealers in your area with the pics and ask them to be on the lookout for scratch marks on offside passenger door.

Any traveller camps nearby or passing through your area?

Was it your new Trek that was stolen?.

We have a while Kuga, hard to tell if the car in the reflection is one but it's deffinitely a Ford.

Have you driven round the back of the Circus to look for 11 plate Fords yet?.

After allowing for the considerable distortion from the curved glass, I'd say it's a Ford C Max.
Looks like the car would have been badly scratched and not something you would want to happen to your own car, it's a long shot but may have been hired.
It's a rotten thing to happen to you, good luck with the search.
Dave.

Guess, you've thought of this already but any other neighbours got CCTV?, I mean neighbours in the wider area, not just next door?

Catch up time

Apologies for starting 2 threads on this issue but I have been in panic mode because the more time passes the less chance of a recovery and I have been driving round looking for this car.

The boys on blue kow know the car either from suggestions from here or from their own investigations, or both.. who knows?

In answer to other questions, it wasn't the new bike (giant not trek) it was the scott which unfortunately was the most expensive by a good bit..

I have been to the circus and couldn't see anything and the YK reg is a local one.

Ford Garage thought it was a C Max

Many thanks for everyones input and advice and will post more detail if and when the cops give me any..

On the bike was 2 Hope One Visions £80 each,
Cree light with Battery box and Batteries £40
Fly12 £250
Fly6 £100
Mudhuggers £55
Mobile Phone

This has really upset me (big softy) and I have been wondering if I want to carry on (with bikes, not life).. But feeling better now...
