Bike theif Car spotters needed

My guess is that they were following you from wherever you'd been cyclink, knowing that it wouldn't be long before you parked, and hoping for you to leave the bike unattended for a few seconds. The only complicated thing for then was the fact that it was a cul de sac, so they had to turn the car round.

Did you put the photos on Facebook like I suggested? You will get the name of the guy that lifted your bike if you do. As I said, our bike was found in 20 minutes.
Yes did that. Got plenty of sympathy but no results.. Def didnt have a follower. was off road, and only an emtb could have kept up

I am really sorry to hear that your bike has been stolen Phil. My Mother in Law was somewhat offended when I put the bike lock on my eBike in her back garden last week even though I explained I was not insured without it.

Like you I had to question a hobby last year, I was "buzzed" by four youths in a car whilst out with my camera. It is a Cannon and I have spent many years investing in their L series lens range, but the big white lenses draw too much attention now. I have in the last few weeks just completed the sale of the last one. Not worth getting a knock on the head for!

I do hope your insurer pays up, they should of course as that method of theft defeats a bike that has a sold secure gold D lock on it. It certainly is a lesson to me and in future I will stop just D locking the bike and find something to D lock it to.

Just had an update on my case.
Car was a CMAX on false plates and has been linked to other activity throughout the district on other false plates. Today it was involved in an incident where violence was used so perhaps I was lucky I didn't confront them.
My case is now put aside until they catch them.
On a more positive note my insurance company has accepted my claim and a replacement bike is in the pipeline.
Please be aware though if you are riding an expensive looking bike that this method of theft is hard to guard against especially if the thrives are willing to use violence .

Clicking 'like' somehow seems wrong, but hopefully you can be back out again on the new bike very soon, and put the whole episode very much behind you.

I can only imagine just how crap that you must feel, along with the horrible feeling of expectation that it could happen again.

I deleted a previous post of mine, in which I mentioned tackling thieves along being threatened, then run over for having done so. Sad thing is, tackling these scum is just too risky, and you did the right thing. It doesn't make it any easier or just though.

Interesting that the sheer number of crimes involving this vehicle has got the police to take notice. Good to hear that insurance has come good! and invest in body armour :)

I think its all too easy to be down on the police if they are not there in your hour of need, but to be fair to them, steeling a pushbike is small potatoes in the grand scheme of things..

I'm delighted you'll be back on two wheels, after recent events it's finally something a bit more positive. I'm sure you'll be wary of where you put your bike going forwards.

But also (and exactly as you remarked) always remember that your safety and wellbeing is the number one priority. So if you happen to see someone on your stolen bike, report it, maybe follow them and photograph them covertly, but best not to confront them. Getting into an altercation only puts yourself at risk. At the end of the day and despite the feeling of violation that theft causes, remember that bikes are just metal, plastic and rubber and can be repaired/replaced.

I'm not down on them as they've been considerate and helpful in my hours of need - I've experienced both side so to speak - however they're on a bit a slippery slope funding wise and their priorities seem to be shifting. More police are being shifted to deal with sorting out social media altercations. Traffic policing is being carried out more and more automatically by revenue making cameras. etc.

Then just a few days ago during early evening I saw some young kids 10—11 years old trying to break into a neighbours house in broad daylight - so went out to have word and was met my a torrent of abuse and threats to get their dad's to come and beat me up. Went back home and phoned police and was told as it wasn't happening right now they weren't interested - but if it was to happen again to phone local police station between 9am—5pm... Compared to a few years back when I had some some erm...
seedlings growing in my greenhouse and that necessitated 10 policemen and two police dogs to come knocking on my door.

I did ask if they could be tested for any active ingredients but legally as long as they had germinated they were apparently suddenly worth £20,000 even sans THC :)

In my defence I told the magistrate that it was an art's project as Monet and the other Impressionists were very much into smoking weed - and their resulting work hangs as prints proudly on many law abiding middle class folks' walls probably even the magistrate's home...

Anyway enough of a hread hijack.

Indeed, in my younger days I was quite fearless. It may have been the bravado (and stupidity) of youth, but if someone wanted to drag me into a scrap then I was up for it. Now at fifty something, if I jar my back or twang a muscle I'm crocked for months. If I were to confront someone these days, it would most likely result in hilarity rather than striking fear into my opponent. The engines fine but the bodyworks knackered :(

Holy crap, just read some of the more recent posts on this thread. Sounds like the idiots are on a total rampage.

Judging by what I've read, they don't sound particularly clever... so hopefully it's just a matter of time before the cops track them down.
