It's the battery it needs to suit rather than the motor. Are you 36, 48 or 52 V? And what charging socket does the battery have - post a picture of it if you can.

SANS is an often seen charger brand with generic batteries, many suppliers.

Hi, thanks for replying

It's a 36v 250watt motor
If you don't mind my asking, how long did your charger last? Is it definitely the charger and not the battery? Your charger is exactly the same brand and model as mine, purchased from seller IEBIKE on Amazon, as part of my 36V BBS01B kit. Mine has survived beyond it's 2 year warranty, and my plan should it fail, was to buy another from IEBIKE, but the chargers they supply now with the same battery, are a different smaller type...

Hi, the outer cable ( next to the charging body) on the charger has ripped, the inner wires are showing, there is also some movement in the cable that is attached to the charger body. I carry my charger to my work, I must have packed it incorrectly and torn the cable. There is a lot of chargers on Amazon / eBay, I am assuming that if it has the CE mark they should be ok, looking for brand recommendations.

Thanks for the interesting link.

" Revive your dead battery!

The other advantages of this kind of charging method are that sparking at the point of the charger being connected to the battery is eliminated, while cycle life of the battery can be improved by up to 100 cycles (1 Cycle = 1 charge + 1 discharge of the battery). So Pulse charging is not only safer but also extends the life of your battery. "

I don't like this bit - they appear to accept payment by bank transfer only. Buyers have less protection, and the seller avoids card processing fees.

I would have bought one just now, but I don't like having such little protection as a buyer.

BTW eBikebatteries.co.uk said Jimmy had radiotherapy for prostate cancer (see reply posted on 22 Jun 2018):

i dont think he is dead tho but just give them a ring.
Two years ago they didn't accept Paypal, but accepted cards... now it's bank transfer only. At this rate it'll soon be crypto, gold bars, herring of equivalent value or cash payments. I'll ask if they accept pumpkins.

You could probably just repair that. Under the 4 feet are standard cross-head screws to open the case. De-solder the existing lead, cut back and re-end the old cable. You could probably slide the cable back through a gland* or grommet to crimp (hold firmly) the cable into place once you've resoldered the newly ended cable and re-shut the case.

*This kind of thing. Some include strain relief at the entry point (I have some here that I've used previously but can't find the right image online).

I think the suggestion of asking where to get a new controller may have been because the OP wasn't keen or sure about making a repair.

Laptop charger makers anticipate this bag storage damage problem and fit right angled connectors at one end, like my HP, Sony and Acer. Here's my grubby Sony:

If the charger works, I'd be tempted to remove the AC 3 pin plug, untwist those wires, slip over some 4:1 self adhesive marine heat shrink (it sets into a shape, mouldable/adjustable while hot), then hot glue it to the bottom of the charger's case so it doesn't happen again. The boffins here may advise as to whether doing so is at all wise.

Any 36v/42v 1.8a - 2a charger will work , you need one with a 5.5mm x 2.1mm dc jack fitted. Plenty on the two main market web place sites.

Simply select the two pieces of detail mentioned above from the drop down boxes.

I saw that in my searches and was attracted by that seller's truly epic rating (for a supplier of ebike goods), and the apparent inclusion of a cooling fan, which seems to be a desirable feature to look for in a power supply.

Very tempted.

If its a seller on Amazon\eBay then unless they are a trusted UK supplier, I would not rely on the CE mark being geniune.
Compared to Amazon, there is a very limited time period allowed for reviews and feedback on ebay... and dead men tell no tales...

They'll simply magic into existence bigger fans as usual, devaluing everything to continue, and do it all over again later.

Indeed.

I hear rumours told that the game of Russian Roulette, with a live gun, is prefectly safe.

After all if you surveyed the people who played, would anyone say they had lost ?

After reading so many posts and threads on this forum about chargers and batteries over the past couple of years, this does seem to be a minefield. I'll ask Jimmy if he'll accept equivalent value in herring as payment, as I can buy herring with Paypal. Bank transfers are donations, pretty much.
