There's no such thing as legal wattage. There's no regulation on it other than your bike mustn't burn out. You might as well set it to maximum and use the normal levels on the LCD to regulate the power.

EU law EN15194 - the electric motor won’t assist you when you’re travelling more than 25 km/h (15.5mph); and the power doesn’t exceed 250 watts. SWX02-C Motor is labelled at 250 watt for EU import but is capable of 350 watt.

That's incorrect. It's the rated power that must be 250w or lower, not the motor's actual power. If your motor is labelled 250w, it's legal. You can then use a 48v battery and a 25 amp controller for 1000w input power (around 700w output) if you want and still be legal. If it's labelled 350w, you can't use it legally, even if it's identical in all other respects.

Hi everyone
I just installed a BFSWX02 48V 500W, and my surprise was when the motor is limited to 25km / h, then I bought the usb cable to try to limit this speed with the software ... but I can't.
Is it possible to change the configuration of this model?
thank you very much

The speed limit is usually altered via the display, but it will depend on the system in use.

You only have to really make sure of one thing and that is when the hub is fitted make sure the hub axle slit is at the bottom so that the motor cable exits down and then forms a drip loop to stop water ingressing in to the motor.

When installed, check that the rim is central to the frame. You might need to dish the wheel to get it in the centre.

When installing the wheel and you have a disc brake, get your spacing right from the disc side first. You need to make sure that the disc lines up with the caliper, which nearly always requires an extra standard 12mm washer between the motor and the frame.

Bafang make various versions of the same motor: 36V/48V, 12A/15A/17A and various speeds. The version with lower speed, higher voltage and higher current will have higher maximum torque.
You need to ask your supplier for the exact version you are buying.

The SWX02 is a 250w motor. The torque and output power are determined by the amount of current and voltage you give it. What Bafang or anybody else says about it is meaningless. How much voltage and current you can give it depends to some extent on which speed version you have.

A 360v 260 rpm one (most common) can manage 20A comfortably and 25A if you're careful with it. At 48v, around 18A would be about right and 20A at a push. If you're heavy or have exceptionally steep hills, you'd be better off with a 201 36v rpm version run at 48v or a 48v 260 rpm one. Clinically obese people should get a 201 rpm 48v version and accept the lower speed. The 201 rpm one can manage 25A at 48v.

Torque is roughly proportional to volts x amps, so you can see that there's a big difference (216%) when comparing running one with 36v and 15A and one with 48v and 25A. I would guess that the 36v 15A one would make about 25Nm and the 48v 25A one around 60Nm.

The 48v versions of the motor are sometimes stamped with 350w or 500w, depending on where you get them from. It has to be stamped 250w to be legal, regardless of what version it is.

One has to measure the rim ERD/ effective rim diameter, this is the distance from one spoke nipple seat to the direct opposing one. All rims have different ERD's.

Thank you very much Woosh and Nealh for the support ! My rim is quite old , i am not sure it is a good idea for e-bike. How to know to buy a new rim or continue with current one ?

Give us the rim size or tyre dimensions, we'll see.

Here it is in the photo. Should i measure ERD?
Are you going to keep the rim?
Most conversion kits come with a completely made up wheel, motor, rim, spokes and rim tape.
Building a motor wheel with that old rim is not only time consuming, it also does not save you any money.

Understand. Actually i bought motor without rim. Now i am thinking should i use current rim to convert, or should i buy a new one with spokes ? I am not sure where to find second hand rim for my request.
