Which ones of the big boys are you talking about?

Bionx Battery DT XL or RR XL: Li-Ion / 48 V / 8.8 Ah / 423 Wh, eRace 650 P: also 48V, 8,8Ah.

About the same 'grunt' as 36V 15AH.

The 47V Panasonic motor is something else, that's progress.

Nonsense Frank - unless you're 20 stone or want to cruise around on a moped without pedaling then maybe ! Even with all the hills round here I don't pull more than about 350-500W most of the time - only up a >15% slope would I pull 700-1kw. Over 1.2kW acceleration is a waste of battery for an average sized rider. imho !

Frank is obviously going to supply 3kw kits - but is there any donor bike that can use this kind of power safely?

Hi

been selling 60 volt 2500 watt bikes for 5 years now using Diamondback Bikes NEVER had a problem and the batteries 16 AH lipo4 weight was 14 kilos range 50 miles NO pedalling top sped 43 MPH

Before that 60 volt 20AH lead acid batteries same bike 35 kilos off batteries

AND trex Get you facts right the AH off a battery has nothing to do with GRUNT only range if you point a 36 volt bike at a hill my 48 volt will get to the top way before you 36 volt

Re voltage, maybe you should go to the voltages that endless sphere uses use, ie 72 volt to over 100 volt and not "play" at a puny 48 volts.
These kind of totally illegal (by massive margins) promotions by sellers do make me wonder if the recent thread regarding the promotion of illegal bikes etc. was perhaps correct at least to some degree.
3 kw is not a Pedelec it is a motor bike.

... and a 72V bike will get there even faster no doubt. But the point is that there's a balance between speed and power on a bicycle for it to feel in any way natural. It's a matter of individual taste. If I'm not pedalling I'd far rather sit on a comfy moped than a bike saddle cruising at 43mph !

Most of the time I turn my power down a bit because I don't like feeling as if there's someone pushing me forcefully from behind. It doesn't make the ride feel especially pleasant and definitely stops feeling like cycling much. On anything but the very steepest slopes this is the case on full throttle - and there are only 2-3 hills steep enough to demand full throttle an any ride for me. Speed-wise I personally don't want to cruise at 30mph - it gets cold over a protracted period aside from anything else and you start looking for a pair of goggles to stop your eyes running on account of the wind. Would rather save it for a few downhills. There's no motor power contributing there and having cracked how to hit 48.2mph this afternoon on a decent steep 0.6mile stretch I know all I have to do is fit a set of regular tyres to break 50 if I want a bit of a buzz.

If you're already taking very steep hills at 15mph riding naturally it does beg the question do you really need or want to buy a juice-guzzler to make that 18mph for the 5 minutes of the hour you're riding up it ? It's not a rhetorical question just a question. I personally feel on the limit of 'switch to moped' territory at 36V. Think it's something you gradually decide where your preferences lie.... but faster and more powerful doesn't always feel better.

so Frank, if two of your bikes have a race to the top of a hill, one having BBS02 and the other, a 3kw beast.
Whih one will win?

Somebody on ES has got hold of the 750w 48v version, and in a couple of weeks he'll have some for sale. He showed a picture of the BBS02 with stamping that said 48v 20A 500w

I think the 750W version will be a BBS-01, the photo you mentioned was posted by another member nippynoo showing a BBS-02 unit which has a "coaster brake function" ?, he is also a Pedelec member who was a tester in that UK grant testing program.

He appears to be having a problem with this unit staying firmly clamped to the bottom bracket and is suggesting it should be loctited to it. I assume this has something to do with the coaster brake operation.

I hope he will report here what the problems are and where he sourced it so that others can avoid it.

the BBS01 motor being heavy, tends to droop. I tied mine to the downtube.

From what I read, Nippynoo has never fitted one. He was going on the opinion of his local bicycle mechanic, who maybe has never fitted one either. Those that had fitted them dismissed that as being a potential problem.

The coaster brake version needs to make the chain go backwards by back-pedalling. I'd guess that the only difference would be in the way the chain-wheel free-wheels. The motor and main drive will be the same

I can confirm it's rock steady, the BB nuts have 4 ridges, you can always install the inner nut with the ridges against the frame, the ridges will key into the frame but it will damage your paint.

I hope he will feel free to continue his discussion here free of negative comments he has received on the other forum from uninformed posters because as far as I am aware he has the only BBS-02 unit I have seen on the net, and is the only person qualified to make a judgment.

It appears he is based in Coventry.

Where did you get that from? I couldn't find anywhere where he said he had one - only that he was considering one. If he's only in Coventry, I wouldn't mind popping over to see it.
he said this,
"But thanks to all feedback. I was actually on the verge of ordering some from china but the fact it has to be loctited-in has put me off completely. I wouldnt want to loctite it into somebody's expensive bike frame. Would you? I'll wait for someone else to kindly provide some feedback, after they've actually tried it for a while."

Perhaps you could ask the question on ES as you are a member and see where he got the photo from.

Frank, will you be selling the 48 volt 500 watt Bafang crank drive without a battery, and if so, how much?

Hi Because off the issue with support I think we will stay with complete kits our battery has a 50A BMS

the Motor will demand 30Amps and most cheap 48 volt batteries will only give 20Amps
