Woman fighting for life after 'e-bike' hit-and-run in east London

It may be a Specialized factory made ebike. However, those describing it for the report will not be experts, so it could be a Specialized push bike that's been converted,

Woman fighting for life after 'e-bike' hit-and-run in east London

Some of the quotes indicate to me one cyclist was trying to avoid another when the pedestrian was hit. That could take some sorting out. Leaving the scene does rather indicate the cyclist thought he had something to hide, even if he hasn't. The case of Charlie Alliston - loony fixie rider who...

Do we have a “Volt” bike representative among us?

Surely you didn't fall for the old ill health seller scam? Only kidding, but you may have to accept there are reasons of which you are unaware as to why the bike was sold. Regrettably for any of us wanting to sell a bike, a wise buyer will factor in the cost of a replacement battery, whatever...

    Desperate!

Derailer on mine. Something to be said for a hub gear on a 20" bike because the derailer and chain can be quite close to the ground, picking up more dirt. If you like the NuVinci, no reason not to have it. I tried one and couldn't decide, although my ride was too short to form a firm opinion...

    Desperate!

The 20" balloon tyre bikes are surprising comfortable. I have the AVE version of the Tinker - same compact frame design and tyres - and I've done 80+mile rides on it. The bike is also handier at A gates and other restrictions, and fixing a puncture is easier because the 20" wheels are much...

    New to Ebikes

The Oxygen is good for the money. John, who owns the brand and is often behind his desk in Rotherham, is usually amenable to negotiation. You won't get a top range Shimano groupset for this sort of money, for that you would need to pay £3K+ per bike. As a general point, eMTBs are heavy and...

    Whoosh ?

No. The OP hasn't given proposed use in this thread, but if that use is light - occasional weekend cycle path rides in the better weather - a Chinese bike may be adequate. Worth spending a bit more on a European brand if use is harder. Nothing can guarantee reliability and longevity, but you...

    Whoosh ?

Quite a bit of excitement on here when the woosh Rio was launched. Several members bought one, but the posts soon dried up. That often happens, owners lose interest in posting, if not the bike. Or it could be their bike has fallen to bits. Longevity is what would worry me, particularly if...

    Electric tricycle?

Me neither, but people do ride them. Probably not ideal for a beginner.

    Disappointed with a Pendleton e-bike

Aye, Stromer is a thought. I've only ever seen one, it was in motion at the time and the motor struck me as noisy, certainly noisier than my Bosch bikes, which themselves are not the quietest. For that reason I've never really lusted after a Stromer.

    Electric tricycle?

Upright trikes are famously unstable, needing more balancing skills when cornering than a bicycle. An etrike with plenty of weight on the rear axle might be a bit more stable.

    Disappointed with a Pendleton e-bike

Pleased to hear it, although for anyone other than a featherweight I reckon a front hub motor is less risky.

    Disappointed with a Pendleton e-bike

Deny it all you like, but the Somerby is a pile of cack compared to a decent quality ebike. Hub motors snap loads more spokes then crank drives ever do. Again, deny it all you like. I am biased towards decent quality bicycles, which in ebike terms are usually crank drives. It should be...

Raleigh Motus Grand Tour Hub Gears

Ideal length commute, short enough to be able to do it year round and in bad weather. Not much point in looking any further than a Motus, it's a nice well-proven bike and, importantly, you've tried it and liked it. I can't see any point in lock-out front suspension, you might, but my guess is...

Raleigh Motus Grand Tour Hub Gears

As you are discovering 'get what you pay for' applies to ebikes as much as it does any other consumer goodie. The Motus is a decent Bosch powered ebike, although there are lots of others with the same motor which will be of similar quality. How long is the commute? Some Motuses come with the...

Pro’s and cons of buying Cytronex

A light assist, small battery, front hub kit for £1,000 looks very expensive to me. I believe there are some supply problems with the Orbea roadie ebike, but it looks much better value for money than the Cytronex kit...

    Cyclezee....The End

Interesting no new importer has been appointed. I suspect no one fancies it due to the clunky look of the bikes. That may be a victory of style over substance, given that Ezee bikes are reckoned to be sturdy and reliable. But selling a bike with 20-year-old styling would not be easy in the...

Advice on which donor bike to buy please.

Most bikes can be converted, so it is whatever you like the look of. If your bike budget is around £200 either of the Halfords bikes are about as good as you will get. Going second hand would get you a better quality bike, although at that money you would need to know what you are looking at.
