Advice for a true 'Gentlemans' e-bike...

You want a Dutch style bike, so buy a Dutch bike - a Gazelle. Built to last and nicely finished, most have a Bosch motor. Cycle Heaven in York is main UK dealer, they always have a good selection in stock and offer test rides. Worth a trip if you are in striking distance...

Has anyone tried the new Emu Mini folding e-bike?

Nothing folds as neatly as a Brompton. The Emu bike will be unwieldy and may not fit in the luggage compartment. A budget of a £1,000 would allow you to convert your Brompton. The fold would be the same, but it would be heavier and you would have a separate battery to lug around.

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Your records may be better than mine, but in any case what someone said they would do is irrelevant given they didn't get the chance to do it. What happened was a bunch of patronising know-alls began a determined 'we know best' campaign to reverse the result. Talking down to people in that way...

    Kalkhoff Endeavour Move B9

Bosch undertake to provide new spares for seven years after they stop - not start - selling the component. Bosch batteries tend to last fairly well, not least because the controller doesn't thrash the cells with high current draw. My oldest is now six or seven years, no discernible loss of...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

And if they didn't, they would keep bleating about another referendum until they got the result they wanted. Same as that dreadful Scottish woman.

    Kalkhoff Endeavour Move B9

The battery is a Bosch Powertube. It is removable and replaceable - at a cost - same as any other Bosch battery. The shape is designed to allow the bike to have a more integrated look. https://www.bosch-ebike.com/us/news/powertube-500/

KTM Macina Cross 10 CX4 for Sale

I hadn't thought of a Brompton, but they are easier to get on and off than any big wheel bike. Should be good physio as you say because I suspect the motor isn't particularly powerful. Members on here would be interested in a review when you've done a few miles.

Yorkshire Cycle Expo 12th to 14th October 2018

I'm not massively into gadgets, but electronic shifting on a Rohloff may have one or two things to commend it. Standard shift is twist grip, which is not my favourite. It also uses two cables, which has advantages, but electronic would obviate the need for two gear cables running the length of...

    Kudos Secret vs Kudos K16

I hope it works out for you but I fear you will quickly tire of lugging the bike up three flights of stairs. All folding ebikes are heavy, unwieldy lumps suitable only for humping in and out the back of a car. A possible exception would be a converted Brompton, just coming on stream from the...

Yorkshire Cycle Expo 12th to 14th October 2018

The 380% is the spread of gears, so how low and how high the extremes are is governed by the size of the sprockets. You could reduce the low gear by either putting a bigger sprocket on the back or a smaller ring on the front. In turn, that will reduce all the others including top. Seems to me...

Yorkshire Cycle Expo 12th to 14th October 2018

The range of the NuVinci hub is 380% - that's why it's called a 380. Far inferior to the Rohloff which has a range of more than 500%. Of course, the Rohloff is a grand and the NuVinci a couple of hundred, so you get what you pay for. I think you are right to be concerned about a NuVinci bike...

    Elysium Bikes

Horrid, illegal contraption that doesn't even pull particularly well. Rebaged Cyclotricity - you might ask @Andy Bluenoes what he thought of his.

Hi - I have joined this forum because I really need help

You appear to have got on best with the Oxygen, which is a strong hint. It does have more power levels (nine?) than you need, but plenty of owners on here can advise on practical use. You will probably find you only regularly use two or three levels. You also may not need all the gears...

    Juggling the Stable

The Badass dongle adds no power, so no worries about the hub. In any case, the Nexus hubs are robust, unlike the Alfine 11 which is a bit fragile.

    New E-Bike

The Evans own brand Pinnacle ebike with the Shimano Steps crank motor is a nice piece of kit and conservatively styled. Rigid fork which is a benefit at this price point...

    New E-Bike

Is it the Carrera with the Suntour hub motor? If so, there are lots of reports of cutting out problems which have proved hard to fix. Which is a pity, because the bike rides nicely. The Suntour system has been around a few years now, and it may be reliability has been improved.

    Intuvia Active Line replacement

I've replaced/swapped a couple of Intuvia displays and all have worked. Seems to me the display is just that, all the bike info is stored in the controller which is buried somewhere in the motor casing.

Woman fighting for life after 'e-bike' hit-and-run in east London

Alliston was charged with reckless cycling. He was not charged with any offence relating to his bicycle. The absence of a brake was used as evidence of his recklessness, as were many other things - witness statements, social media posts, etc. Alliston would have been charged just the same had...

Woman fighting for life after 'e-bike' hit-and-run in east London

The man seen making off with the bike is the same man the police issued a still of who they wanted to interview. Reasonable assumption it's the rider, but an assumption nonetheless. The various quotes from passers-by about this happening on a crossing and the second cyclist being involved were...

Woman fighting for life after 'e-bike' hit-and-run in east London

Having now seen the CCTV, I agree it looks like a hub conversion. My view is he was cracking on at a fair lick, suggesting the bike was at least derestricted. Leaving aside the legality of propulsion, I reckon there's a case for wanton and furious cycling. It is starting to mirror the...
