    Bosch motor system life expectancy

I fully replace the chain, front cog and cassette every 2500-3000km depending how snotty the weather has been in that period and how bad I have been at cleaning the chain. In my experience the chain and cassette wear together so they have to be changed as a unit. The front cog is cheap anyway...

    Bosch motor system life expectancy

I have ~14000km over 17 months on a Bosch CX motor. It does 250km a week, it’s dongled and I charge the battery twice a day. Have noticed a drop in range from the battery and I’m sure a new system would seem a bit more responsive but there’s still no discernible play on the cranks so I’m...

    Commuter/hybrid for tagalong

Yeah I used the Irish scheme and its essentially 500 quid off if you pay tax at the higher rate. Its every 5yrs alright although there is talk of it coming down to 2yrs. Also you could do what I did and use the wife's if that option is open to you. Also if you have an existing bike that you are...

    Commuter/hybrid for tagalong

I think that you might struggle to get something decent in Ireland on that budget, even Halfords are charging more than that for bikes with dubious quality. No experience myself but Whoosh seem to have the quality and low cost and seem to offer excellent advice and customer service too. They...

    Wind sucks

Ah its only forecasting 50km/h in the face for half my commute home:confused: I only ever run out of range in adverse windy conditions. However I have started leaning on my handlebars with my elbows which usually nets me a couple of km/h more.

Riese & Muller Delite GT Nuvinci 2018 Review

Ah it was a while ago now, all healed. Not sure of your tyre spec but that sounds a bit high for what is supposed to be a soft squidgy tyre - I could be wrong but. Maybe try 5psi drops until it starts to feel better?

    speedbox 2 install

One the physical unit is removed there is no way to determine it was fitted. It will not show up on a diagnostic even if fitted. Also I have had one fitted for 13k km’s with no issues.

Riese & Muller Delite GT Nuvinci 2018 Review

What tyre pressure are you running on the front tyre? I had a couple of front end slides before dropping the front and cracking a rib. I dropped the pressure in the front tyre and it’s been better. I run marathon mtb’s however.

    Cleaning and Lubrication?

I have used degreaser in a drivetrain cleaner exclusively on my bike. Used it frequently on my last chain but the drivetrain didn't last longer than 1500 miles of road use, I say drivetrain because it started skipping on the two smallest gears on the cassette only (either worn or most torque). I...

Review Cube Reaction Hybrid HPA Pro 500 2017

Its worth thinking about, I have put 4 new chains + cassettes on the bike in the 14 months I've commuted on it, anything to increase longevity of chains will pay dividends in time and money (not that I don't enjoy getting my hands dirty ;-)).

Review Cube Reaction Hybrid HPA Pro 500 2017

Just thinking about this, if I move from 18T to a 20T front cog it would roughly move me down 1 gear on the cassette (worked out on sheldon brown gear calc.). This would give me 2 more teeth per cog to reduce wear. If I ran out of low gears (empty battery situation) I could go 11-42 on the...

Review Cube Reaction Hybrid HPA Pro 500 2017

Good going! I might think about the Wippermann chain but its a bit more expensive than KMC. What cassette do you use? I use a shimano HG50 cassette and I would say that I am 70% of the time on the smallest 3 cogs, which obviously wear faster.

Review Cube Reaction Hybrid HPA Pro 500 2017

I said that I would report back on the e-bike rated chain, well on Friday it started skipping gear on the highest gears after 1500miles which is less that the 1900miles I got on the previous KMC non e-bike chain. To be fair I think that it was the rear cassette that let go first at there was no...

Review Cube Reaction Hybrid HPA Pro 500 2017

Yeah I wear cycling clothing year round so not much difference there. Like I said I’m not that concerned with the overall commute time, I was just wondering if the difference was due to weather, bike or me. Anyway, I hope to put another 11-12k on the bike this year. It’s still in warranty till...

Review Cube Reaction Hybrid HPA Pro 500 2017

Yeah but if you take enough instances over a suitable timeframe you get a picture of the environment and can use that average as a baseline. Then you can look at other variables like fitness or mechanical issues. But yeah, headwinds are a killer full stop.

Review Cube Reaction Hybrid HPA Pro 500 2017

I tend to push hard all the time as I am always late. I have been recording my commute times (I got a Garmin watch last xmas and this is all I use it for) so looking at the data: My mean commute is to work is 2.5min longer from Autumn to winter. Similarly my return journey is 2min longer. Not a...

Review Cube Reaction Hybrid HPA Pro 500 2017

So at the end of 2018 I did a review of my years commuting. Distance travelled ~11,000 kms Breakdowns = none 3 x sprocket, cassette and chain replacements (the final one being an e-bike rated chain which may last longer). 1 x replacement disks and 2 x replacement pads I think I’ve only cleaned...

    Help - too many punctures

I have 11k kms on a set of marathon plus MTB's with no punctures. Strictly road use only however, and I don't think they grip that well however running sensible tyre pressures helps (i.e. 40-50 psi). I was running more pressure until I dropped the front unexpectedly on a greasy turn - that one hurt.
