Have Your Cake and Eat it.

Insurance runs from any day of the year so why should VED not do the same. Pack it in 10 days early, get 10 days money back. Seems as if it would then be simpler and also fairer system.

    Bike Carrier

Any idea if it were to be used on a Fiat Ducato camper if the tilt mechanism would allow the rear door/s of the van to open?

I'll go with MS on this one any day.

    Plasti Dip

I'd swear by Plascoat PPA571. Typically powder electrostatic application job. Very durable, will not peal and water cannot work its way beneath the coating. Great for things such as towbars, railings etc.

    The UK Difference

Flecc Thanks for taking the time to respond. Most informative and interesting. Your last paragraph sums it up. Force the issue. Question is, who's got clout and will to implement it.

    Heads Up to Stolen Bike

I shall get back in with the police today and hopefully force the issue.

Charging Lipo from an inverter. Any expereince?

240v mains produces a clean sine wave. A modified sine wave is as it says, modified. A rough representation, chopped about a bit if you like. Some devices will run hot, others will not work at all. A good many devices don't care.

    The UK Difference

Flecc you have said it many times before. "we are not a cycling nation" I'd be interested to hear your views as to if and how we could ever become one.

    Heads Up to Stolen Bike

Thanks for the replies. Having spoken to him, I'm not sure he is a bunch of flowers sort of guy. I'll speak to the insurers next week and see what he is demanding. Maybe then I'll pay him a visit and sus him out. All very disappointing, like my girlfriend says, if it were us we would be only...

    Heads Up to Stolen Bike

Can you demand ransom for a stolen item? I would not have thought so. Surely it would be proper to return the bike the the owner upon request and then bill accordingly for storage and cost etc. Alternatively delivery it back to the owner and call it your good deed for the day. If I had not...

    Heads Up to Stolen Bike

At last, my insurance company has accepted my offer to buy my KTM back. Subject to my condition of it being undamaged when I pick it up from the finder. Good news I thought! I called the so called finder today to arrange collection from his work premises. He won't allow me access to take it as...

A working dongle - at last

mfj197, my misunderstanding. I thought you were talking about a cycle path and not a road. Loads of 20mph signs have appeared around our area recently. Makes not a jot of difference to motorists. Everyone still drives at 30.

A working dongle - at last

I think most cyclists should be able to estimate their speed within a few mph. The more speedos in the world, the more speed limits. What follows next is then a host of fines for knowingly ignoring those limits. Radar guns in a park, whatever next.

    Hello enlightened ones...

They really do work well. Fit and almost forget. The added advantage that your rims do not wear and cover everything in grey aluminium silt in the winter.

The zero road tax will only last until every motorist is in tiny little asthmatic car. After which, the tax will shoot up and you will be robbed blind again. So not only will you be paying road tax once again you will also be paying for a catalytic convertor and possibly a diesel particle too...

A working dongle - at last

Perfectly feasible but I think much experimenting to get the cam arrangement would be in order. Something similar to the old fork mounted mechanical mileometers. I'd rather go to work, earn some money and buy a dongle. Maybe one for the retired folks.

Stick a bit of tape over the speedometer section. Whilst you are looking at it you are not looking where you are going. Sure, record your speed on a gps unit for interest when you get home but I don't think the distraction on the road is beneficial to any rider.

Best helmet IF you want one?

Who said they don't make you look like a tw@t. I wear a standard Bell helmet and look nothing like a tw@t. In fact, I think I look pretty cool.

Tag-a-long trailer for children...is it bad for the motor?

Hi Bikesman I have been using a tagalong for a good 18 month. 12 month on a Gen1 Bosch Ktm and 8 month on my Gen1 Haibike. Both mtb's. I'm 14 stone with a 6 year old. Almost all rides are off road over the South Downs. Both my bike and the tagalong take a real hammering but no issues as yet...

    Can derestricting cause motor/battery problems

I believe in systems such as Bosch are designed from new to run unrestricted. It is some sort of written law that forces the manufacturers to introduce a cut off. The manufacturers have not introduced it to stop it wearing out quickly. An unrestricted model will undoubtedly be used more than a...
