If I am going to be mugged, I don't intend to be, then I would rather it be by smooth talk than a thug.just wishing to redistribute my hard earned bank balance.

Not met an irate Life Boat lady but, I'm sure that a Guide Dogs for the Blind one would give an equally robust reply in such circumstances..

I was intending to be more general in my comments OG, certainly nothing was personally aimed at you.

From what I looked at the French , the Dutch and a few others were listed as charities, whereas the German and the American seemed to be arms of the state. #20101Danidl, 54 minutes ago A Charity can mean different things, certainly here in the UK, I'm unsure about other countries. Most...

Totally agree with you OG. I spent more than a few of my early years in Poole, my parents lived there so Lifeboats were in the blood. Now in the NE of Scotland and very familiar with the Broughty Ferry crew and help run some charity raising with them. As you say a great bunch with many...

Just a little different in that the RNLI is a 'real' charity run by people who give their time for free. I guess some might argue that is simply because the state doesn't provide the service but I find things work better this way. Round pegs in round holes for a change.

To be fair... moronic and crass stupid it might be, but, not that far different from the opposite end of the spectrum who are equally able and willing to throw stones and the like when things don't go their way. Such people aren't really anything other than anti- just about anything and...

Losing your country is probably a phrase used in much the same way as losing your identity and as we all know people do not ever lose their identity no matter how hard anyone tries to make that happen. In fact most of the troubles in the world used to be about exactly that albeit driven by...

One could argue that some actually enhanced their position, at the expense of others and none more so than Germany as the Greek tragedy clearly shows. Their Finance Minister (name escapes me) has a very interesting story to tell.

Very true, even there you will find opposites. However, generally we did have the common-sense to understand that at some stage the talking has to stop and all attention needed to be focussed on the goal. Not a lot of point arriving at the station after the train has left? Let me make the point...

Economic Agenda UK holds the cards in EU ‘divorce bill’ row Liam Halligan The EU’s Brexit negotiators were apparently “flabbergasted” after their British counterparts launched a legal critique of the Brexit “divorce bill” last week. UK civil servants spent three hours on a detailed...

BRITAIN’S poorest households will be the biggest beneficiaries of Brexit, according to a prominent Labour group. A paper co-authored by Labour Leave and a group of economists estimates that a reduction in prices and immigration will save the most deprived families £36 per week. They also warn...

China seems to understand this or least Taiwan does. I spent a fair bit of time in a Tech Campus around 50 miles out of Taipei. they had all of the main industry players at the time, including IBM, HP, DELL,SAMSUNG and a few of their own including Mitac. All of them were doing both research and...
