Tongsheng TSDZ2 review and build tips.

That's really interesting PP. I hope you'll forgive all my questions- you're the first person I've "spoken to" who's done the firmware upgrade. There's sooo much info on the ES thread that it's hard to fully understand it. I knew there was a smaller firmware project for the VLCD6 displays but...

Nice looking build PP. What was the thinking behind the 36v/ 48v mashup? How did you get on doing the firmware upgrade?

TSDZ2 Crank fell off - what spec for replacement nut?

They're a PITA- I check my crank bolts every week now and they're loose at least half of the time, even with threadlock. I've just measured mine and it's M8 x 1.00 (M8 fine). Based on your experience I might even start carrying a spare....

Tongsheng TSDZ2 review and build tips.

Looks good John. Nice one. Regarding your questions, I'll pick a few off based on my experience. Wheels- you need to decide what the bike's gonna be used for. You can spend some serious wedge on some serious kit (Hope hubs, Mavic DH rims etc), but if you're only going to use it on the canal...

Tongsheng TSDZ2 review and build tips.

John, well done for saving another nineties "classic" from the scrap bin! However now you've teased us with your description, you really ought to show us some photos.... The cable guide is a pretty common pain with mid-drive conversions. Some people (me included) just re-route the cable and use...

Volt Axis front light not working

Welcome Trek. That's a cool bike with an interesting spec- I'd be interested to hear your review of it once you've had it a while. Regarding the lights, did it come with a handbook that gives you any clues? Alternatively, try ringing Volt direct- 020 7378 4728. Good luck and enjoy the bike...

So new I’ve not started yet

Welcome Webfolk. When you get the bike, you're gonna love it. I find it quite hard to hide the smug smile on my face as I overtake "normal" bikes!

    Knocking noise tongsheng

George, welcome. Before you fear the worst, have you checked the basics? Is the motor/ torque mount/ crank arm loose?

    Bicycle Alarm system?

If your display has got a USB outlet, you could wire the alarm in permanently and let the main bike battery charge it.... Or alternatively run some power to your bunker (or solar if access is difficult)...

    Bicycle Alarm system?

You could charge the alarm in-situ with a USB "power brick" then charge the brick in the house when it goes flat....

    Legality of Battery voltage.

This bit intrigues/ worries me. By excluding these types of "Boris Bikes" from the regs, they're potentially able to split the market into "e-bike users" and "e-bike owners". Once this is done, they can then legistlate harder against the owner group without affecting hire users. I suspect the...

    Legality of Battery voltage.

I'd agree. 48v maximum (i.e fully charged) rules out every current 48v rated bike. This is probably how Wisper have interpreted it, hence their decision. What I find more interesting/ suspicious is why. Higher voltage = lower current i.e. safer. What with the recent law-change in France and...

    How Mad is this ?

Putting aside individual tastes, this is beautiful workmanship. For any engineers, the build thread is well worth a read: https://ratrodbikes.com/forum/index.php?threads/the-streamliner.108679/

Although this is worrying Nealh, the fact that you've still got the bike means that you've made the right security decisions and beaten the thieving b@stards!
