    For Sale Brompton M6L - Non-Electric

Bought for work when I didn't ride all the way (not often), it has not done that many miles, mainly because my car was vandalised where I used to park it and then ride the last mile and a half into work. Certainly <1000 miles. It deserves to be used more. I upgraded the roller wheels and fitted...

    Hub gears v derailleur

That doesn't sound right to me. My changes and feed in of power are immediate with the Bosch. I'd ask to have it checked out.

    Hub gears v derailleur

One other thing that's dawned on me is the Cube/Bosch CX Performance set up stops power being delivered during gear changes to ensure the chain isn't over strained. When I'm scrolling through the gears, it sounds quite like a quiet motorbike with the motor whine.

    Hub gears v derailleur

One other response to the issue is to quickly up the power setting. I'm not familiar with the Yamaha set up, but when I start off on the Cube in too high a gear, I respond by upping the power setting a notch. That's easily doable on the Bosch. My Ortler was a Bosch/Nexus 7-speed hub gear...

    Hub gears v derailleur

Moving from hub gears back to derailleurs had its challenges too. I'd got used to coasting up to junctions on the Nexus-hubbed Ortler and deciding which gear to use at the last moment. You can't really do that with a derailleur-equipped Cube, because you need to pedal to change gears. I'd also...

    Hub gears v derailleur

Ignoring the rather blunt last reply, I'd echo those who have advised to stick with things as they are. However, there's no harm in checking out your options, is there? I've done the following bike journey over the last couple of years: rear hub drive/derailleurs; Bosch Active Line/Nexus 7...

Country footpaths and why not to ride

I live in Warwick and the racecourse here has several paths across it into the surrounding countryside. When I first moved here, I saw one route and thought it'd be a nice walk. It crosses the A46 - a de facto motorway - and I assumed that there would be a footbridge. When I got there, there was...

new member what are your thoughts please?

I bought my 2018 Cube with 2,700 miles on the clock, but it had been kept immaculately. It really was as good as new. If it's a cheap bike, poorly maintained, it could fall apart after a few hundred miles.

    Conversion kit for my Brompton

I'd say that my Bosch-powered Cube would do just that on the Sport or Turbo setting the instant pressure is applied to the pedals and thereafter. With CS there is a delay before the power kicks in making uphill starts trickier than with TS. There is the caveat that I am not disabled, so can't...

    Conversion kit for my Brompton

I'm certainly not knocking your kit, Woosh, it sounds very good. However, to casually say that torque sensing merely gives a different riding experience is an over-simplification. Done properly, torque sensing provides an instant feed of power in relation to the amount of power the rider is...

Case studies - how has your electric bike changed your life?

I'll echo your verdict on the Ortler. My Wien 7-speed was a superbly put together machine. I'd still be using it if the Cube I now have hadn't come available. It's a shame the brand isn't more widely available in shops over here.

    Conversion kit for my Brompton

Thanks for the information. Do you have a pic. Of a folded bike?

    Conversion kit for my Brompton

Interesting. How much? Does it fit into the standard front forks without widening?

    Cube Kathmandu Hybrid Pro 500

Seeing as I'm only working one week in four during the lockdown, the bike hasn't had as much use as normal. Since the last update I've fitted a different Zefal mirror, the Zefal Spin. More compact and recommended. I've also fitted half toeclips, as the pedals fitted were a little slippy for my...

For Sale Bosch Powerpack 300 - broken

As detailed elsewhere, this battery from my Ortler worked perfectly and held a good charge until I came to sell the bike it was on. On the day of the sale I took it off the bike whilst still switched on and that was it! It has been dead ever since and no amount of 'quick Google fixes' have been...

    Help! Speed limit unlock !!!

@Pecoton: If you linger here for any length of time, you'll quickly establish that there are folk on here who cannot resist getting on a soap box regardless of the topic. Your thread here is an example. I asked on another thread about repairing Bosch batteries and it descended into a seemingly...

    Convert Ridgeback Supernova - possible?

sjpt has described cadence sensing bette than I did. The amount of assistance given will depend on what power settings you have via the display and controller with cadence sensing. I've had both set ups and prefer torque sensing by a long stretch. Does your bike have hydraulic disk brakes? That...

    Convert Ridgeback Supernova - possible?

What condition is the Ridgeback in? You say it's been idle for many years. If so recommissioning it might not be worthwhile. If it is so long, it might need an entire new transmission; i.e. chain, cassette/freewheel, derailleur(s). At the very least, it'll need a full service. Cadence sensing...

    Cube Kathmandu Hybrid Pro 500

The Schwalbe GT365s have been fitted - which was a cinch. Whilst at it, I fixed the rattly front mudguard with some bits of inner tube wedged between the stay and the guard itself. Both items were just tested on a 12-mile, mainly off-road ride. The mudguard didn't rattle once, despite riding...
