Riding illegal bikes can lead to being charged with driving offences.

Yes. You could even argue that because of the momentum thing ebikers, even dongled ones, might tend to stop at red lights more often than normal cyclists. It would be interesting to get data on that. But of the two categories, legal ebikers and donglers, there is no way that the donglers arent...

Riding illegal bikes can lead to being charged with driving offences.

Obviously I'm not suggesting that dongled ebikers shoot red lights in pure number terms more often than non ebike cyclists. That would be ridiculous given the sheer number of 'normal' cyclists on the road, but when you buy an e bike you have a simple choice. You can relatively easily and...

Riding illegal bikes can lead to being charged with driving offences.

Anecdotes are fine, but as a matter of psychology, running a red light and dongling an e bike are very similar, apparently "victimless' crimes, where the person doing them feels the law shouldn't apply to him and he is 'man enough' to take the risk. It would be astonishing if there really was...

Riding illegal bikes can lead to being charged with driving offences.

To be fair you can sympathise with the cycle commuters who want a little more speed to keep up with traffic but it's obvious that the sort of people prepared to break the law and unrestrict their bikes are more likely to go through red lights, cycle carelessly and injure people.than those of us...

Cube 250 BOSCH motor with 50 nm - Flash possible?

Yes but OP said we was torn between a Yamaha powered bike and one with a Bosch 50nm torque, so I had assumed he is talking about an ALP motor. The new Performance Line isn't an upgrade on the ALP, it's an upgrade on the older Performance Line motors. And bikes using it are considerably more...

Riding illegal bikes can lead to being charged with driving offences.

Like I always point out to the dongle kiddies, the risk of being stopped and checked is minimal unless and until you hit someone at which point the book gets thrown at you. Also, ignoring the criminal law for a moment, you won't be covered by any bike insurance you might have so prepare to get...

    Suspension seat post?

I have one on my Cube (Cube Suspension Seatpost - they cost about £30-40 I think) and it is very good for flattening out bumps on gravelly ground/ over cobbles etc. With any sort of front suspension it ensures a very smooth and comfortable ride

Cube 250 BOSCH motor with 50 nm - Flash possible?

I didn't think the Activeline Plus motors were getting a 2020 update? The only changes to the Bosch motor line up were the new Performance Line motors (replacements for the old CX series) no? I did a 100km Sportive on my fully laden Cube with an ALP this Summer. Getting up steep hills isn't...

    Help! New E Commuter Required

Get well soon (and make sure you sue the idiot driver!). Not sure if your spare battery is 500Whrs or 400. If it's 500 (or if you are happy just to run 2x400 batteries) then you could save some money by picking up something like a Cube Touring 400 for around £1500. No real difference between...

    New Crossfuse

Yes - it's a bike that not even Halfords managed to bodge. The Bosch ALP system is a joy and the bike as a whole is solid. I still think my Cube Touring is a little better - comfier riding position, covered battery and suspension seatpost - but the Crossfuse is definitely in the ball park...

What ebike would you recommend me?

Yeh - in terms of being 'bomb proof' the Cube ebikes are pretty much there. I've done 2200km on mine this year without even a squeak and they are very comfortable over just about any surface (short of proper MTB trails). Mine is the touring version. They are built like tanks and are very...

Cube Cross Hybrid One 500 2019

I have the Cube Hybrid One Iridium edition (£1570) and it's done just under 2000km since Xmas. It's a great touring bike. Super comfortable. Just chews up the miles. Whether on a 100km charity Sportive, on my daily 20km each way offroad commute or just heading off down rivers and canal two...

    Best motor for low cadence?

How low is 'fairly low'? Obviously you have ridden and enjoyed the crank drive (mid) motors you name (which tend to require a higher cadence to use effectively than hub motors).. New Bosch CX motors have just been announced, so if you want one of those it might be worth waiting a few months...

Woman hit by Cyclist awarded a payout

If you have any sort of bike insurance, personal liability will usually be included. I think what he means is that insurance companies tend to have knock for knock agreements or agree to split liability as a matter of course in cases like this - where both parties are arguably at fault to some...

Woman hit by Cyclist awarded a payout

Yes - I'm not surprised by the outcome to be honest. I cycle home through Manchester City centre, down Cross Street past the Arndale. Apart from that road , which only trams and cyclists use, the area is pedestrianised and smack bang in the middle of Manchester. so it's teeming and people are...

Bosch CX - is it possible to reduce pedeling resistance with aftermarket mods

That might be tricky at 1mph! I recently went up some hills with a rider who was bonked and had to push their non-ebike up them at walking pace. I had no issue doing this in Eco in 2nd gear even on my monstrously heavy Cube Tourer but even then it must have been at 3mph+. Once you go under...

Bosch CX - is it possible to reduce pedeling resistance with aftermarket mods

What comparison isn't 'fair'? We all understand that, if your ebike is easier to pedal over 25kph (because it is lighter, has less rolling resistance and is zero resist) and is road legal with a 25kph cut off, it will use less battery on just about any given route than a heavier/non-zero resist...

Shimano Steps E8000 - Pedal Resistance

What sort of cycling do you want it for? If you plan to go mostly over 25kph I assume it's mainly on road so you might like to look at the lighter zero resist road bikes like the Orbea Gain or Cannondale Synapse Neo. I'm not sure about the Shimano steps but both the Yahama PW and Bosch 3rd gen...

Bosch CX - is it possible to reduce pedeling resistance with aftermarket mods

I think Nev has a Cannondale Neo Synapse. The whole point of bikes like it and the Orbea Gain is that they can cruise at speeds well above the cut off, and only call on the battery assist when it's really needed.

how much would petrol need to increase to change driving habits

I don't think raising petrol prices helps much. As you say it targets lots of people who have no option/aren't the problem. I suppose it encourages more fuel efficiency though which is a good thing generally. It is the commute into big cities that is the issue. They should simply stop...
