Yet another London female cyclist dies

im not a daily male reader, but seeing their faces somehow brings home the realisation that they were just like oneself, not some anonymous strangers who were in the wrong place at the wrong time...

Just ordered my first electric bike:)

welcome, I have the oxygen 13A kit on a racer, I love it, I suspect you will too, it provides just the right amount of support for me - gently and then much more powerfully on hills/very steep hills, just enough to go along at around 24 mph with some own effort on the level. the thing is that it...

    Some conversion help please

I half agree: the problem is not changing up or down as one goes along - its stopping from cruise in a high gear: so, there you are, stationary in traffic in a high gear - unable to accelerate from a low gear unless you have consciously geared down before you stopped - getting from seven to one...

    Some conversion help please

I think as d8veh suggests a 201 rpm bpm kit then, there's loads of them, from woosh, oxygen, etc etc. I wish, as an aside, someone will make one of those downtube battery controller combos (having read above about the rack not being strong enough) that puts out 25 A instead of 15A at 36V - I...

    Some conversion help please

stop staring with a crank drive in traffic can be a PITA sorry - stop starting in traffic with a crank drive on a derailleur can be a complete PITA

    Some conversion help please

I was factoring in the weight of the baby - if its only one short hill - apologies for backtracking - a relatively powerful hub drive (like a bpm as I think d8veh is suggesting) may be best - others on the forum may have better ideas, but in my experience a hub drive can be easier to live with

Yet another London female cyclist dies

it's hard to imagine a more nightmarish way to die

    Some conversion help please

I have a hub kit (relatively underpowered one) - I'm very happy with it, but I don't think it would work with 25 stone - if it's really flat where you are a more powerful hub drive would do the trick I imagine - but will semi serious and serious hills ever be part of things? I'd - moreso perhaps...

Right kit for Boardman Hybrid Team and 33 mile round hilly commute

The only 2p I would add (I do a 27 mile all-round commute) is that minimal maintenance is a really important - I ended up with the 13 ah oxydrive kit on a cheap racer because IMHO crank drives are higher maintenance, they strain the drive train, one has to think about shifts,a good hub drive feels...

    ODK Cargo bike

does anyone know what the weight/capacity of the iomega rear rack is? the thing that makes the odk look attractive is that it seems as if it could transport two inebriated 150 lbs people on the back.

    ODK Cargo bike

i have been looking on the www for a similar meaty but compact cargo frame myself to put a bpm and some lipos in. i dont think they would sell the frame - it wouldnt make business sense in terms of markups etc. heres a thought for anyone from woosh, eezi etc reading this post though, source...

    Kalkhoff Pro Connect. Impressive range.

to some degree I agree with you - the geometry of the Tasman I tried was spot on, I like magura hydraulic hub brakes - I liked the bike in fact. there's two things - one is - as you say - whoever reads this, don't make up you mind beforehand - try all the various designs you can (if you don't...

    Kalkhoff Pro Connect. Impressive range.

yes, if one believes marketing hype all of that is no doubt very true (and wearing Armani knickers and Lynx while driving a little BMW is also no doubt scientific symptoms of virility). It all depends on the hub drive itself: I have a 36V 15 ah that provides a gentle hill of torque that allows...

    Kalkhoff Pro Connect. Impressive range.

one of my commutes is a hilly, fast (bad shoulderless b road) 27 miles, I do it regularly on a 13 ah 36v hub kitted bike - usually loaded with stuff (all up weight often around 95 kgs), hammering along at 20 to 24 mph. I get 30 miles out of the 13 ah battery. ive don eteh same journey on a...

    best for pulling loads

dear all, apologies for a bit of a tangent: speaking of pulling loads, I have a Raleigh twenty that has a very powerful bpm kit that, now that I limited it to 18mph, is legal. I need to occasionally pick someone up from the station about three very, steep hilly miles away - I want to be able to...

What proper tool for wheel truing?

I came home this evening,on my favourite hill a dreaded ping ping ping from the rear wheel made me realise that tightening the spokes a few nights ago really didn't do the trick. I came home and decided to do it properly for once and started truing the wheel - really tightening spokes opposite...

    Chris Evans & Top Gear

I don't really know Chris Evans - but I read with interest about the denials, then saying his private production company made a trial episode, the Jeremy James and Richard Hammond's tweets about trialling to become DJ's. The thing that seemed really unpleasant to me was that it all smacked off a...

    Military-grade e-bike

i saw the click episode about it - it has a 4kw motor. I took some inspiration from Sheldon Brown (who very long ago converted a Raleigh twenty for off-road use - because of its very strong rigid frame) because I had an old Raleigh 20 - put a £208 BPM kit from BMS (with a 50 A controller) and...

Carrera Subway 1 conversion 500w bafang which battery

I have the oxygen 13a battery 36v hub motor kit on a 700c bike. I'm probably not a good judge - I haven't really lived with any other pedelec - but I think I'm missing something: with it's on paper minimal power it bowls me along with 20 kg of stuff at times at an easy 22 to 24 mph and does...
