The difference is that these batteries are now becoming a MAJOR part of all our lives.

Insurance companies have a role to play here. They should be (and probably soon will be) dictating what people should be doing and using, to charge and store these batteries. As Neilh says, if they are charged with a good charger, stored safely (and also not dropped) then all will be ok.

Indeed, I’m trying to put it across that you need to think about it - tongue in cheek albeit.

Peter’s ammo box idea I like! Just ordered two on eBay for £20 the pair delivered.

    Never-tackle-an-e-bike-battery-fire-yourself-warns-fire-brigade-after-another-blaze

My battery store is in the garage, and I made it from (basically) two paving slabs - one top, one bottom, with brick for the back and side walls. No cement (yet). A loose brick front facing into open space, and loose bricks as battery separators. Bulky, but effective and free!

Swytch Pro/Max yellow battery connector secrets revealed?

Surely if the batteries are at different charge levels then there’ll be a potentially large current flow between the two packs? That’s my thinking, but I can accept that there may be current limiting factors.

Lishui Bluetooth Controller, programming the easy way

I think it’s time to draw a line under my Swytch set up and accept I can’t improve it meaningfully. l’ve a nice 700c bike that I think I’ll focus on, with a nice free-running wheel, KT controller and standard battery pack!

Lishui Bluetooth Controller, programming the easy way

True, but I’m getting the feeling that Swytch aren’t minded to change anything to radically. The hub seems a pretty standard Aikima 100SX for instance, and they are unlikely to change the comms protocol spec for the display. I’m thinking I’ll get one and try it. Still got them in stock?

Lishui Bluetooth Controller, programming the easy way

I’m thinking though, that the communication protocol will be the correct one - as both the bluetooth adapter and the controller on the Swytch battery holder are by Lishui. Surely it then doesn’t matter which display unit the bike has, because it’ll also be running the Lishui protocol?

Lishui Bluetooth Controller, programming the easy way

Hmm. It looks like the bluetooth adapter has a blue connector, and the Swytch display connector is green.

Lishui Bluetooth Controller, programming the easy way

So this’ll work on a Swytch bike? It’s a Lishui controller in the battery holder.

    Two types of Charger required?

I’ve got a lot of Lithium batteries. My power tools have them, some household appliances have them, and now our bikes have them. I don’t use them all the time and especially over winter months a few get ignored for a while - to their detriment. I’m loath to spend time once a month going round...

Swytch Pro/Max yellow battery connector secrets revealed?

Measuring at the charging pins, there is no change to the voltage whether the pack is turned off, or turned on using the test button. A reading of 36v this time for both pack on and pack off.

Swytch Pro/Max yellow battery connector secrets revealed?

In answer to one of AnthonyC’s questions: - Taking a fully charged pack measuring 41.6v on the outer flat pins when you press the test switch on the pack, if the pack in not under charge (no charger connected) I get 0v across the outer flat pins and 35.3v across the two charger pins (O and D)...

Swytch Pro/Max yellow battery connector secrets revealed?

Saneagle’s suggestion gets my vote. Bring the red and the black from the actual controller into the outside world and you can connect any 36v battery to there. My addition to that would be to Make it a break plug/socket connector and send the red and the black back into the battery holder and up...

Swytch Pro/Max yellow battery connector secrets revealed?

I had to look up what BMS stood for. Something else to read up about. I’m enjoying this e-bike stuff, it’s perfect for a retired techy like me, to keep boredom away!
