Help! Intermittent fault on battery - causing loss of power

    Finally got around to measuring the cell voltages, using the balance harness plug 1 -0v 2-3.8v-3.8 3-7.7v-3.9 4=11.5v-3.8 5-15.4v-3.9 6-19.2v-3.8 7-23.1v-3.9 8-27.0v-3.9 9-30.8v-3.8 10-34.6v-3.8 11-38.5v=3.9 12-42.4v-3.9 13-46.2v-3.8 14-50.1v-3.9 15-54.0v-3.9 I never charged up using this BMS...

    Lifespan of ownership

I had my first ebike for 5 years. I thought that was long enough for me to decide what I needed in an ebike & prove to myself that life without a car as your primary method of transport is possible. I am now more adventurous with my replacement ebike, having the confidence to adapt & improve...

;)I think we should keep this quiet - if the motorists realise then they will all shout at us to get off their roads & use the pavements!

That at that moment of time I have "ownership" of that piece of road in order to allow me to continue my journey. ie the majority of my rides are on single track country lanes, where I will pull over at a layby but not into a hedge. I don't worry if the vehicle behind can go faster & is forced...

I think that my understanding of the phrase "owning the road" takes into account other road users. ie if riding a bike the road has potholes on the left & an island in the centre then I will occupy the middle of the lane, to stop a dangerous overtake but pull over immediately it's safe to do so...

I went out this morning into town during rush hour - what a difference in attitude by the drivers to what I encounter later in the day. I did my usual pulling over & waving vehicles past - it was like I was not there, with nobody thanking me. So I take my hat off to those bikers who do an urban...

Ok I'm a road user. Whatever vehicle I drive I aim for consideration for other users & expect the same. I've just checked the highway code to see the legislation - no specific guidance. The best semi-official advice is...

I've seen these on ebay etc but I could not work out how to get my leg over! I stand on my right foot, lean the bike towards me & swing my left leg over the panniers & saddle. If I had a warning flag sticking out I would knock it. I had seen this concept some years ago & experimented with a...

In the left hand wheel rut - so that's normally 2 to 3 feet out from the kerb. Closer to the kerb is full of rubbish, further to the middle gets drivers annoyed, despite the fact that in order to overtake me they will need to be (at least partly) on the over side of the road.

Good point that I had not thought of. If it had been dangerously close, rather than just making me feel uncomfortable then that's what I will do. Because its a busy main road I have got habituated to vehicles passing fairly close & it was only because we were the only vehicles on the road at...

This morning on the way back from shopping a supermarket home delivery van passed me at a distance that made me feel uncomfortable if I had stretched out my arm I could have touched him. I soon sat besides him at traffic lights, where I looked at him until he turned to face me, when I said in...

how drivers see you based on the clothes you wear.

I was sent this link - it sort of makes sense - but It would be nice to see what evidence was collected, what parameters were used, in order to put the conclusions into perspective. As I know that different colours appear brighter until various light levels & visibility differs according to the...

Adapt cheap lights to not blind oncoming traffic

Having fitted lights powered off the main battery that complied with German standards I was astonished to see the clear horizontal beam cut off. https://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/threads/stvzo-lights-with-lenses.35542/ It got me thinking about the backup battery lights I was using on country...

Help! Intermittent fault on battery - causing loss of power

I'm sure its the 52v battery as for the last two months the 52v battery has been off the bike, pending repair, whilst I have used a replacement 48v battery for a total of 29 journeys covering a total of 383 miles without problems. Today when I thought I had repaired the 52v battery & fixed it...

Help! Intermittent fault on battery - causing loss of power

That's heartening - I have the time, just not the knowledge. Voltage on the cells has not changed. Are you able to suggest what to test to find the fault that is causing the BMS to do its job & shut the power off?

Help! Intermittent fault on battery - causing loss of power

Well I managed to replace the BMS & soldered the XT60s onto the battery frame leads this morning. Whilst the bike was on the frame checked that it all worked fine. However as soon as went down the road the fault reappeared. So its not the on/off switch, pinched wires, BMS so I am left with a...

Help! Clothing? Mud guards? - Commute

I've being doing a 25 mile round trip commute every day this week, using country lanes, mud, leaves, puddles & non stop rain. My suggestions - Full length mudguards plus add on drip catcher (Probably a proper name for it) Plastic bags & straps/ties to cover battery/lights/control panel/throttle...
